CyanogenMod 7 RC3 Released for DROID Incredible, Other Devices

Release Candidate 3 for CyanogenMod 7 has started rolling out to a variety of devices, including one of our family members, the DROID Incredible.  If you head over to the CM release site, you’ll find RC3 for the DI, plus what appears to be a new nightly.  Anyone already running this?

Cheers Steve!

so is this like “jailbreaking” an iPhone? if so i wanna know how! I bought my htc Droid Incredible and so far it is hands down better than the iPhone and I’m in love with it! :) Could you nice men please help me?

  • Coronusniner

why would anyone root their fone?

  • Richard Madara

I tried the 2.3 on OMGB and with CM7 and I can say I’m not really impressed in general with 2.3 My best experience on my Incredible so far has been from Chingy with his Re-Engineered ROMs. I’m really surprised that his ROMs haven’t seen more light here. Especially his Z ROM Port….that thing is absolutely on fire.

  • Billy Mays

I just installed RC 3 on my Incredible, and it a huge improvement. The camcorder was broken in RC 2. Now everything feels even smoother than ever before, and there are tons of fixes and improvements with the Market. Can’t wait for the final release!

  • DJyoSNOW

Converge great write up. I’ve used Evervolv gingerbread rom since day one. I love the various tweaks that have been added also!

  • Debrihmi

The biggest problem I’ve had with CM7 was it’s aggressive process killing.
Couldn’t run anything in the background for more than a minute or two, really sucks when using music or security locking apps.
    Have they fixed that yet?

  • Camerondccrawford

Just put it on! Bugs of RC 2 are gone, running flawlessly so far!

As a DL and Android user from day 1, I want to say “Good Job Converge”. I am not jumping on any bandwagon here, but simply put I have seen where newbies, are asking questions on how to learn how about “Root” or need help about a cerian ROM or Theme or whatever and seen where people have gotten a lot of BS on XDA forums .

I have seen that same stupidity here sometimes on Droid Life at times and I’ve been quick to jump in and blast the idiot that thinks his *hit don’t stink!!! Droid Life was founded on helping others as a community to help everyone learn and have fun with a great platform such as Android.

I remember me asking Tim O Tato for help and he was happy to meet me in San Francisco to help me flash my first ROM. And, I was listening to Tato as he was so excited about DL and the people on here that are way cool. And I’ve seen several of the old timers lol help people back in the day with all of their questions even mine.

Sometimes I think people take the “God level” of I am a dev, to new heights lol We should appreciate the devs that are developing on their free time but “Respect Is Earned Both Ways”, NOT just because your a dev. The rooting community is only about 1% of total sales compared to the rest of the population that buys Android phones. This is a small community and we should respect others no matter how good you are at flashing the next hot ROM or if a newbie doesn’t know how to turn on his/her WiFi on their phone, .

Help the new guys/girls, if someone has a question help and show some Droid Life love. :)

  • Rizzidy

    Could you repeat that?

  • Killershade

As a game modder, I too get tired of the barrage of questions that are answered simply by stickies and common sense. It is insanely frustrating to read posts from people who have no idea what they are talking about. I have a lot of patience because of this. I know how the CM mods feel, but I can’t really condone the mean-spirited posts.

    Downloading now….Thanks guys!

CM7 is a great rom.. never really had to deal with the DEVs though. I’m on latest nightly (#32) and its smooth as butter.

+1 for that. I’ve been running CM-n32 all day, and no issues on my D1. I’ve been doing the daily update thing since … RC2? ish… and never had any problems. I might take a look at Chevy’s SS5.x if I have a little time on my hands, but that’s about it. as far as problems with the Dev’s, if you read the FAQ, and RTFD, 99% of my problems have been answered w/ no stress. and the few questions I had, were answered promptly and w/o issues. perhaps I just asked nicely, w/o a sense of entitlement, detailing what I had already tried? Politenesss might have had a little to do with it. :-)

For some reason, I have not kept any recent CM versions on my D1 for more than a day.

don’t like the non-sense versions of Android… plus “customer service” sucks when it comes to the CM team.
too much hype around their work.

i tried to use cm7 rc2 as my first rom but just couldn’t get into it – i don’t use sense widgets but still like a few sense based apps so now i’m on skyraider athena which is basically cm6 with the sense apps i like – pretty cool so far but i’m interested in maybe giving cm7 another shot just for gingerbread but i can wait a bit – no rush for me

My problem is the sense. I’ve tried CM and other senseless roms and I just can’t handle it. I liked MIUI and it was my favorite (though no sense), I bought a tv out cable and AOSP roms don’t support t.v out so I had to ditch it. If they could get FriendStream in CM, I’d make the jump.

I know the devs of roms do this for fun and in their “spare time,” but quite frankly, some of the devs working in the cyanogenmod scene are total douchebags. Just read the XDA threads..

Simple questions from newbies are answered with such contempt that if I were receiving that answer I would never return to that thread. This is always brought up, especially in defense of the newbies asking the question, and it is always responded to by one of the devs with such maliciousness that it has put me off to that WHOLE scene.

Whenever someone encounters an issue it is merely responded to by one of the devs as such: “wipe, flash again. it couldn’t POSSIBLY be our rom.” Yeah, not until 20 other people have the same problem, THEN you decide to help. Cm7 devs have been some of the most unhelpful on the forums that I have ever seen.

Also, to use the “we do this for you, in our spare time, for free” act is such bullshit. So many sheep donate money to their paypal accounts and people like koush (who also acts like a d-bag on twitter) are making dough from their marketplace apps. I am probably the only one who feels this way but I was just so put off to the whole thing that I now get my gingerbread experience from OMGB and it has run better on my Inc that cm7 ever has..

    /rant
flame away for yes, i did just hate on the beloved cm team.

I always wanted to try OMGB, but I haven’t gotten around to it. I was also mystified by those devs getting banned from XDA. Not sure what happened there.

      • Converge

I am not entirely sure either.. I just downloaded their 1.1 build from Rom Manager. With the stock kernel, I get 19 hours out of the battery easily.. moderate use, of course.

        • Anonymous

I’m intrigued. My battery life is suspect, at best.

    • Rizzidy

All true. The CM team is a bunch of immature little kids. They need to grow up and get a grip on reality.

    • http://twitter.com/davidmota davidmota

This sounds just like CM, and I love it lol just kidding but honestly though I would say it depends on the “Maintainer” of the device, for example: MTWebster for the Droid 1 was the coolest Dev I had ever seen, this guy would go on the threads and actually talk to people and help make the device better, sad to say he left development to focus on family. So your rant is very true and I absolutely agree, but there are some exceptions to it :)

cvpcs from ccroms.net is on the case now. His releases are top notch.

    • sixohtew

after rooting the first rom i went to was omfbg.. i can admit i had no idea what i was doing… i emailed the dev and in about 2 minutes got a reply the helped me out.. then after knowing a little i went to omgb and i absolutly love it.. i asked the devs about their 2.4 leaked release and again got a response in seconds. after seeing how cm7 looks and reading about all their “customer service issues” i can honestly say i will never leave t3hh4xx0r.. hell as soon as i get paid you better believe im going to donate. i want them to keep on making great roms as well as continue to have great “customer service”. stock gingerbread on the incredible is just amazing.

On one hand XDA has ALWAYS been full of douchery. I personally remember when you asked a question and NO ONE responded. Even if you thought it was legitimwnt. Yeah, ok let me read through 6000 posts to find the one post that I need because EVERYONE has that much spare time *sarcasm*.
I only use that site for the apps because I know even attempting to ask a question is frowned upon.

  • Ilhe1s

I only had like 3 problems with CM7 RC2, and this seems to have fixed them all.

  • Skilcher

Just updated my HTCInc and running like a charm. Any improvenemts will need to be seen as time goes on.

    Nice. :D

I hope this is a lot better than RC2. That piece of crap should never have been labeled a release candidate in the first place.
