Video: DROID X Gingerbread Benchmarks

Gingerbread (Android 2.3) for the DROID X has been leaked/released and we’ve got the benchmarks for you.  Prepare to be impressed by a phone who still only has a 1GHz single-core processor and 512MB of RAM.  Who would have thought that a software update could make a phone feel and perform better than it ever has?

Update:  Benchmarks of the DROID 2 and DROID X vs. Thunderbolt.

  • Marc

I benchmark over 2000… Droid x with overclock.

  • http://twitter.com/tevyaw Tevya Washburn

I really, really hope they keep these speed increases on the final, official release! I can totally see Motorizon adding crap that kills the speed increases they’re showing in this leaked release.

  • Bunie

I thought official rpms could be installed using the default boot loader thing?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000106808261 Keith Sumner

    1554 DROID Project Elite (latest)

This thing still kicks major ass and should not be ignored

    =)

  • Bur

    “Only” 512mb Ram?

No android device needs 1GB Ram……………yet, and probably wont for a long while (if ever) unless you plan some SERIOUS multi-tasking.

  • RulTP

Man, I can’t wait till I get the OTA update!

  • Anonymous

quadrant is a joke. you need the pro version so you can see which benchmarks are hi and low. this one averages so you can have a few bad ones and one kick ass and it is all high. the java benchmark is always high and overshadows the rest.

  • Anonymous

Looks fast as ever but I need ROOT… I will be waiting patiently.. But hurry

  • http://twitter.com/thmcdonald1 TJ McDonald

How are your benchmarks so high?! Mine is maxing out at 1599, and my phone is not bogged down at all. Is there something I need to do to optimize my performance?

    • Chimpi

Sounds good. Now if you decided to change back to your rooted software, can you? So if for instance you wanted to put Liberty X back onto your phone, how would you go about doing that? Do you know?

      Thanks,

      • Sillygirl71

sbf with rslite back to froyo and re root.

  • Lilsoccakid724

For the people out there like me, who were very nervous about trying this out.

I was rooted using z4root and i decided to go for it. Downloaded Droid X Bootstrap ($2.00) and did a recovery and then loaded the zip file. After about 5 minutes (of sheer panic), it slowly but surely got Gingerbread loaded. It was crawling for me for the first 10 minutes, and I thought I just ruined my phone. I was wrong, and after giving it some time, it was up and running, and i must say i am VERY impressed with the new BLUR (I know, never thought i would say it either). my initial full quadrant benchmark was 1500 or so, which wasnt impressing me, and i thought i would miss my low voltage 1.3ghz overclock while waiting for root access, but this morning i was getting scores around 1800, and the phone runs smoother than ever.

If your nervous about taking the plunge, i completely understand, and i felt as if i made a mistake trying this along the way. But everything went very smooth, and am very happy with my choice.

Hope this can help some people out!

    • Raider93550

      Where do you get Z4Root?

  • Anonymous

wait until the thundah gets gingified!

  • http://www.facebook.com/levi.schroeder Levi Schroeder

    I get 1800+ with 2.2 on Thunderbolt.. =D

    • Kuba1313

got 2700 + on a crappy stock atrix

  • Jsaboom

I really really like it a lot! I forgot how much I hated the ads and bloat-ware IE. blockbuster, kindle, amazon mp3…….

    • Sillygirl71

create a new “group” in your app drawer and you can hide the bloat …for now ;)

  • Hogasswildmc

His linpack score on 2.2 seems really low. I routinely get over 14 mflops. On quardrant I typically get between 1200-1400.

  • Anonymous

Benchmarks scores are like MPG rating on cars as we all know those numbers are never right for real world driving. It is only helpful for comparison between similar types and/or manufacturer. So while I wouldn’t use it to compare a DX to a DInc, I most more definitely would use to compare a DX running two different software versions as was done here assuming no trickery to try and “cheat”.

  • Jmcolejm

    Come on Incredible!

    • Lasteve11

CyanogenMod’s 7.0 RC2 is GB for the incredible. I’m currently using it, and even though I haven’t benchmarked it yet, it runs great and it’s stable.

  • Anonymous

So glad I did not waste my upgrade on a Thunderbolt.

    • Anonymous

I have a Droid X and a Thunderbolt and I have to say my Thunderbolt gets around 1800 with 2.2.

    • Dbzster

You say that comparing Gingerbread to FroYo, wait until TB gets Ginger xP

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/RXFWXDUWRRHCGFV6NP2SDZ7YLU Ray

so no love for the d2g I honestly wish I never got this phone.one Tom to choice from that doesn’t get updated now this arrggghhhh

  • Anonymous

Think i’ll wait till we get root back.

    • Mayze23

      Waiting on root as well.

    • Mayze23

      Waiting on root as well.

  • John

hah “let’s just set that d2 that no one cares about aside”
    =P

  • Super64

    Its moist….

  • http://perpetualn00b.tumblr.com quiklives

I’m gonna wait for the official, or maybe even a ROM built on GB, because I’m cautious like that.

  • http://twitter.com/bandroidx bandroid

anyone try renaming su to like secretsu and then copying it to /system/xbin/secretsuname and then updating? the update binary most likely looks for su in xbin and bin and deletes it.

  • http://twitter.com/bandroidx bandroid

anyone try psneuter option of superoneclick???

  • http://twitter.com/bandroidx bandroid

anyone try psneuter option of superoneclick???

    • Roneill910

No I havent. I would like to know how to root this though. Sucks!

  • G23

Got it running on my X about an hr after release and I am loving it.
    Gingerbread FTW!!!

  • Roneill910

How do you get root back after GB 2.3.3?

    • G23

I wanna know the same. Dont want to try Z4root yet.
But 3G mobile hotspot works for tethering.

      • Roneill910

I tried Z4 a few times its not taking. I’m starting to get pissed.

        • http://twitter.com/bandroidx bandroid

any of you try superoneclick? try it with psneuter (z4root only uses rageagainsthecage which patched i think)

          • John

            nvm (del this)

          • John

            nvm (del this)

        • BDizzle

Didn’t read the article on MDW before you installed, eh? P3 said clearly that it hasn’t been rooted yet.

          • Roneill910

Yeah I figured someoner would have figured the root out by now. I’m trying to wait but might be going back. I use my rooted apps too much. I really like this gingerbread though! Its sweet!

    • jtr

uh, you don’t since it hasn’t been rooted yet

    • LivinFree

Its not a consumer device thats how it is one of the developmental devices that have free rain to the OS. As for consumer units there is no process to root the GB build yet. Only dev units can be rooted.

  • Worm4603

anyone run smartbench on there gb dx

  • http://profiles.google.com/lancedirk13 Lance Wolken

This really is amazing. I am loving this on my X. Feels like a brand new phone. Saying this coming from ApeX, which i like a lot.

  • Wyveryx

My score keeps going up… Started out at 1540, then went to 1825, and now it’s up to 1840… What gives? Does the thing need to warm up first or something?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dustin-Carney/1004713533 Dustin Carney

yes, its still syncing apps, contacts, gmail and other things

      • Wyveryx

Never messed with quadrant before, kinda makes me wish I had, just so I could compare the other ROM’s I’ve used.

  • http://twitter.com/qudwls6933 BJ P.

i got 13.418 for linpack lol

  • http://twitter.com/qudwls6933 BJ P.

i got 13.418 for linpack lol

  • Stephen D

Linpack specifically tests the CPU pipeline. Snapdragons have a 128 bit, deeper pipeline, vs the 64 bit and smaller one of others, like the Hummingbird and OMAP, and that is why they can score so much higher in Linpack. Anyways, Quadrant is a horrible benchmark. It’s so easy to trick. I guarantee the score is bloated by the IO score. Please do a Smartbench(both 2010 and 2011), they are much better benchmarks.

    • Rolo72

I’m running this leak now and I can tell you from a performance standpoint, the quandrant benchmark is not far off. I was running the Darkslide 4.2 rom before this and the speed and stability was unmatched…until now. I ran quandrant benches on Darkslide and was getting 1500-1600. Based on my current benches with GB, and the actual performance I’m seeing, quandrant is not far off from real world comparisons….not in this case anyway.

    • Rolo72

I ran smartbench as you suggested and I got a 615 under Productivity Index. The stock droid x average is at 1030 in that category. Seeing as how my X has never run better at this point, I’m inclined to believe that if any benchmark app should be undermined here, it’s the one you suggested.

  • http://twitter.com/Ghub1 Chris Ghubril

Where can I find an SBF to revert back to stock?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dustin-Carney/1004713533 Dustin Carney

      google

      • http://twitter.com/Ghub1 Chris Ghubril

what do I search? I’ve never done this before.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dustin-Carney/1004713533 Dustin Carney

what device do you have? if you have the dx type in droid x sbf and if you got the droid 2 type in droid 2 sbf

          • http://twitter.com/Ghub1 Chris Ghubril

            sweet thanks

        Thanks, appreciate the link.

  • Keith Mcintyre26

Quadrant benchmarks for Android are generally irrelevant. Look at the masterminds that contribute to cyanogenmod. How many benchmarks do they post? Don’t worry, I’ll wait. Case in point- the retarded rfs filesystem on the Samsung Galaxy S. Manipulate the filesystem with a voodoo kernel and your quadrant score doubles. Easily manipulated. Pissing contest.

    • Stephen D

Well, Voodoo kernels do provide a HUGE performance boost. They convert the file system from RFS to EXT4, which is what practically every Android phone uses. But yeah, Quadrant is a bad benchmark.

  • Bassdj

    D2: 1881
    DX: 1684….cmon

    • Bassdj

      DX 1712

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dustin-Carney/1004713533 Dustin Carney

does the gb update work on d2g?

    • Mr Blurryfingaz

That’s what im sayin. I’ve asked that question on like 5 other websites and no has answered. Just gotta grab the sbf for the D2G in case it doesn’t work. I would do it myself to answer everyones question but I don’t have a pc.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dustin-Carney/1004713533 Dustin Carney

ive asked almost 10 times and nobody has given me a answer =(

        • http://twitter.com/jbernard703 Jeff Bernard

no it does not. don’t try it and don’t think about it. only apps work across multiple devices. sbf, ROM, kernel, upadates and anything that messes with the /sytem folder is device specific. do not use them on other devices. there now its been answered for you.

    • PydePypper

No it doens’t and don’t try installing it on the D2g you will hose your phone. Give it time I’m sure TBH will come threw with a build for the D2g and the PRO.

  • http://twitter.com/berzerker7 Andrew Akker

lol @ quadrant benchmarks telling you the phone is fast as hell.

  • Lilsoccakid724

wow im jealous. im getting 1550, since i lost superuser access im no longer overclocked.

  • Dodgesityballer

Can i just get my Incredible 2 so i can just sit it next to my thunderbolt and look at them both already….come on guys i need an ETA of this phone

  • Mr. Joe

    Who would have thought?

Remember when froyo came out for the DROID and people pissed themselves over the scores?

  • Anonymous

Those numbers are like the xoom. how can a single core, previous generation cpu get similar scores as a dual core?

  • Jim

Any chance the picture quality of the camera has improved with the new update?

1875 in quadrant and 43 in neocore. :)

  • Trdracer21

The color suck I would of like black not the silver on menu someone make a nice from with different color I like copy and paste alot better thought. I’m happy. Finally 3months of waiting it should only take them 2 weks to do this

    • Anonymous

Do you program things? Have you ever? If not then please don’t complain about time it takes because it isn’t something you just blow through and have work perfectly. Quite honestly im surprised it only took a few months and it is still so stable.

  • Jacob

Every time I run quadrant on Droid X Gingerbread, I get a whole range of scores, from 1300-1800, just not a consistent bench marker… But I will say, Gingerbread on the DX rocks :D

    • SleekDX

It might be different scores of you are still downloading all your content (apps/contacs/messages). Try to reboot and then do a few bench marks, should give you scores a lot closer together. Regardless new Blur winning.

it is because your processor speed scales. sometimes it is running at 1ghz sometimes it is running slower.

    Sweet!
