Swiftkey is FREE Today from Amazon

Not a bad start from the Amazon Appstore, I’d say.  First it was Angry Birds Rio, then Doodle Jump followed by Shazam Encore, and today we get Swiftkey for free.  If you aren’t familiar with Swiftkey, just know that many have chosen it over Swype as their everyday keyboard.  It seriously reads your mind while you type.

Grab it!

    Gotta say, I’m loving SwiftKey.

I downloaded it when it was the free paid app of the day only to get an email later to the effect of “thanks for your $1.79 purchase”….

I’ve sent an email to amazon to figure out why. I didn’t get charged for angry birds rio or shazam… and my credit card bill isn’t showing anything yet.

Over the weekend, I accidentily bought an app because of the stupid “one-click” purchasing and no confirmation that you really wanted to buy an app. I only wanted to see more info about it but 2 seconds later it was already downloading. They replied to my email saying that they agree a refund or confirmation policy needs to be put in place and said they’d refund the $1.99. I never saw a charge for it on my bill, so I’m assuming I still won’t.

I hate to sound like a cheapskate complaining about $2, but it’s $2 I didn’t intend to spend and it’s beginning to add up quickly ($4 over the weekend).

I like the free apps, but if it’s coming at the expense accidental purchases and erroneous charges, it’s not worth it.

tried it. not fast enough to overtake swype, but it’s a GREAT alternative to the stock keyboard.

  • KIN

I hate the Amazon AppStore, why? Here in Germany we are not able to download the apps – US only. No Angry Birds RIO, no free apps – not cool at all!

  • mikex

I’m liking SwiftKey. I do wish you couldcould swype the keys though.

  • QQMore

I love the HTC IME keyboard since it can be customized with colors but it looks like swiftkey has improved since I tried an early beta. I don’t know how much I’ll use it, but I figure for free I might as well get it and have it in case.

Gave this a try today, coming from Swype. Long time user of Swype, but I figured since this was free today I’d try it. I actually didnt find it to be any faster or easier than Swype.

Loving Amazon right now. Their appstore is great… loading the free apps each day. Angry Birds w/o ads… great. Swift key is wonderful… love the feel. Also have Prime so streaming movies since Netflix has dropped the ball.

Go Amazon..show Steve Jobs how it’s done!!

I prefer the Swiftkey keyboard compared to the stock keyboard on my shiny new Thunderbolt!

  • SFC Airborne51

Gotta say I am loving the whole free app a day thing from the Appstore but you have to think that they are going to lose money in the long run doing this? How long can they give away quality apps for free? Not that I mind and please keep it up but I’m just saying….

One bad thing about amazon is it starts on boot, and drags on your phone. I understand the security side of that, but you really have to add to my battery woes?

  • Anonymous

Every time Swype comes out with a new beta I give it a try, but always come back to SwiftKey. It’s simply the fastest way for me to type on a phone.

I will say…I love the Gingerbread keyboard overall; That snizz is nice! :D

Best Keyboard hands down for android. Run it on both my DX and rooted Nook color.

  • zach

amazon appmarket keeps telling me that I must enter a default address. And I already entered my home adress but still keeps saying it when I try to download a free app of the day

It is so annoying amazon Appstore is not international………….
NEEDS TO COME TO MEXICO AND CANADA WE ARE US NEIGHBORS

I grabbed this today, too! Thanks for the heads up!!

It really is fantastic. I have Swype on my Thunderbolt as well, and this is the only other keyboard I’ve ever used that I have considered paying for. Very handy and gets better over time as it “learns”.

… now WHEN, oh when, will BlindType be available????? C’mon google, you bought them… now give us the goods! Any rumors that it’ll be included in Ice Cream Sandwich?

Too bad I paid for it already with Google ages ago

It’s good for the developer. Honestly after downloading it from Amazon and using it for a couple hours I don’t see an advantage over the stock keyboard on Liberty 1.5.

  • Anonymous

For some reason, I am having trouble setting up Swiftkey. It’s downloading fine and all but once I start the tutorial and I get to the Language Module step, it backs out to the first screen. If I try downloading the language module manually (by going into the Language and Keyboard menu in Settings) it starts downloading and then stops. I tried multiple times but this always happens. BTW I’m on Droid X running Liberty 1.5.

  • viewthis66

I took advantage of this. Thanks Kellex.

  • Riverjao

Thanx for the heads up DL! SwiftKey is up and running on my OG right now!

  • Bprokosz

its pretty much like HTC’s keyboard right? Or am I missing something?

    • Anonymous

not at all. it predicts the next word you are going to say. i cant really explain it, you just gotta try it. as kellex said, it reads your mind

  • Crowell392

if some of the apps are free why do they ask for a payment method in 1 click

    • Anonymous

I don’t know, it’s asking me the same thing. I guess you have to enable it to download any app. Once I did that it works fine.

  • 1977sjr

This is my favorite keyboard by far! I liked Swype when I first got my Droid X but this is soooo much faster and efficient and accurate. Scary good prediction ability!

I have used SwiftKey since the very early beta phasephases on my OG Droid! It has replaced stock and Swype on my DX., my girlfriend now loves it, and 3 of my best friends have switched to it as well! The predictions are almost scary they are so accurate! I find it works best for me to uncheck everything but auto caps and after it learns your pattern, I can start a word and it will predict the next word accurately 70% of the time.

Swiftkey Keyboard ROCKS. Example of a swiftkey sentence typed using only the space bar:

“The following item is not a problem with the word in the morning, and I don’t need to worry yet again for your email address is not a problem with the word.”

Just a tip too for people who want to get notified of what the free app of the day is, you can get the Amazon AppStore tweets sent to your phone ( http://www.twitter.com/amazonappstore ) They send it at like 3:00AM EST so I roll out of bed all groggy and not excited to be up, check my phone and be like “oooo free app!”

… it’s the simple things in life! Love the free apps Amazon!

    • dblj

      thanks!

touch input is soooooo much better.

  • dblj

geez, I love it but I’m running out of room…lol

Only good thing about the Amazon Appstore is free apps.

Do the apps update on amazon?

      • Anonymous

Yes, you get a notification in the task bar or you can check understanding “my apps” in the appstore app.

    • Anonymous

That and piracy protection, ease of payment, and layout.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kane-Stapler/597191406 Kane Stapler

I do like the payment, only because my credit card doesnt allow me to buy stuff not in US dollars. So amazon fixes that

And the fact that Gameloft may be offering apps on it soon instead of the arduous way they sell apps now. Oh yeah, then there’s that competition thing that helps drive down prices.
