Verizon Site Looks to be Preparing for a Thunderbolt Announcement (Updated)

New front page image on Verizon’s website is what you are seeing above.  All talk today centered around Thursday, March 17 as a legit launch date for the HTC Thunderbolt and this would be a sign that they are preparing for an announcement.  If you click on the “Learn More” button, it just pushes you onto the Thunder Tracker page with no new info.  This really is like a lightning countdown…

Update:  HTCSense.com seems to be mysteriously down.  Related? (Cheers @joeydnj!)

Update 2:  The phone has been announced.  Finally.

Cheers @rusty_richards!

    • Brutalsnowman

What! the last blog to post this!

Kellex I demand a refund!!! Free information just isn’t enough if it is more then 15min old :) Might as well have left the milk out on the counter… thats how much it hurts.

      • Tim242

HA I was picking at him because so many gave him hell over all of the posts
        and “hypebeastin” : )

        • Brutalsnowman

4G will be awesome when it comes to your area… but I just cant justify dropping 250 for a 4G Incredible with a larger screen and SD card.

I am worried about them raising the price of 4G once LTE covers a larger area… but I think I would still rather wait for an Atrix type device. Or at least a device with an upgraded CPU

.And knowing HTC they probably went with the older Bluetooth radio. Thats the only issue I have with the DI it always disconnects my LiveView and I cant connect a Wiimote to it, but I can attach both to my work DX and they work perfectly.

  • Olonajoseph

Sounds great but we should wait for the droid bionic..

  • http://twitter.com/SangreNueva_ JayR

Wirefly says that it will ship on the 17th. does this mean that i will get it on the 17th or that they will ship it on the 17th and wait for it to arrive?

  • Brutalsnowman

phandroid is reporting that it is now official. Verizon press release to prove it.

  • Anonymous

I was considering waiting for a dual core moto phone but i just may have to jump on this one. Looks like 4G data rates stayed the same for now. By the time the Bionic rolls around, Big Red may have jacked up unlimited data rates. Best to lock in right now i suppose. Also, i am loving that meaty kickstand that can be use horizontally AND vertically!

  • thundabolt

    #Android. #4G. #LTE. All in one stormy package. #ThunderBolt from #HTC. $249.99 starts Thurs. http://www.verizonwireless.com/thunderbolt – VZW twitter

  • Danford884

It’s official! And unlimited data for only $30!

  • Bullet Tooth Tony

In case you need any more confirmation, @VerizonWireless just tweeted “Let’s announce the new addition to the VZW device line up and make some new this morning!”

  • Anonymous

Another high end 1GHz single core phone. HTC Evo had Sprint’s 4G and a front camera almost a year ago. Yawn.

    • Tim242

      Shut up.

  • http://twitter.com/TuxDotKing Avichi Suite

Heh, I’m getting a Bionic myself, but I’ve been recommending the Thunderbolt to others, so I’m ecstatic (as was one of the people I recommended it too) that we’re finally getting somewhere with this phone. It’s a great phone, and it stands (I think) up with the Bionic, (you could even argue for it’s supremacy, but let’s not) even without dual core CPUs and channel memory. The only thing stopping me is the feeling that I’ve already run the gamut of high end single core phones, and I’m worried about ‘upgrading’ to something without a large spec increase.

    • Porno

      Enjoy your Motoblah.

  • Jack Mostri

Wirefly is taking preorders right now, with the promise to ship on the 17th…..and the price with a new VZW contract is only $199.99!! BOOYAH!!!

  • Mr. Joe

Isn’t it ironic that my 2 year is up this week…

    • Anonymous

      No, that’s not ironic.

  • Icolossus

    it changed… it no longer looks like that D;

  • guest

    $199.99!! WireFly!!! SOLD!! =D

    • Anonymous

wirefly looks shady…. hopefully big red and best buy are selling it for the same price.

  • Tim242

LOL When you try to preorder at Wirefly, it takes you to the page for the Incredible.

    Edit: 199.99!

  • Trdracer21

Explain to me why I should get this phone when dual cores are coming!?

    • Tim242

I’m tired of explaining. Either get it, or don’t.

    • http://twitter.com/TuxDotKing Avichi Suite

Since you’re going to get flamed for this question, here’s a flame retardant shield…

…And here’s my advice; if you have to ask, wait for a dual core phone. You won’t miss out on much, if anything.

    • Neutron

They’re not coming, they’re just breathing hard.

  • Wquin67

Well I was looking forward to getting this phone but now I have found out that 4g is not even in my area and might not be until 2013. So I dont even see a reason to get it now, and others might want to check to make sure that 4g is in there area before rushing out to get this phone as that is one of the major draws to having it.

    • http://twitter.com/BiggiePhat JG

lock in 4g unlimited pricing before verizon rapes us with tiered. Least ill get to enjoy my unlimited whatever for 2 years more :)

      • Wquin67

JG you make a good point. As long as the pricing is not changed from what I am paying now for unlimited as I could not see the point in paying for a service that I cant even use at the current time.

        • http://twitter.com/BiggiePhat JG

thats all i want. lock that sucker in.

          • JobsH8er

            You and me both!

  • Anonymous

Anyone else notice the limited ability to navigate once signed in? Usually it shows my device, upgrade status etc… hummmm….

    • Anonymous

      I’m experiencing the same

      • Anonymous

Nice! Im thinking we may see a pre-order @ 3am (Eastern).

    • http://twitter.com/BiggiePhat JG

when i log in i can do everything…

      • Anonymous

Now the screen looks as it should when I log in (location of My Device, My Info & My Usage is in place) but each one has “Your information could not be retreived at this time, Please try again later”… anyone else see this?

        • Wquin67

I am getting the same thing. I have tried to log on from different computers and all of them are doing the same.

          • JobsH8er

This is odd… My account shows that my info is unavailable ( I currently am not eligable for an upgrade). My wifes acct shows a completely different screen. Everything is gone when I log in under her name (she is eligable for an upgrade).

        • http://twitter.com/BiggiePhat JG

ah see i didn’t click any of them…too lazy my bad! lol

    • Anonymous

It says my information can’t be retrieved…. including my bill… skip this month’s payment???

  • Anonymous

Well, I’ve told myself since CES that I would hold out for the BIONIC, but I want something new and fresh…. STAT!!! Maybe if the non-contract price isn’t absurd, I’ll go that route. Oooooooorrrr…. epiphany: I’ll convince my wife to let me buy a TBolt AND a WiFi Xoom. That sounds better.

  • Hoot352

haha…Verizons site is cool. Click on the thunderbolt to get more info. Then it pulls up the lightning and an email sign up to get the heads up for when it releases. When you move your curser around lighting strikes where your corser is……coool..

  • Anonymous

Now the TBolt will finally be announced tomorrow with a $399.99 price point, $49.99 a month for LTE (even if you don’t have LTE service yet) and the universe will implode with all the angst and nerd-rage of one million pre-ordering gadget addicts.

    • Hoot352

Those prices would make it a no brainer decision for people to switch to other carriers. Verizon has to stay competitive with it’s pricing and phones of the other branches. This is so unlikely that I should wrap it up with in the rumor section about a month ago saying that the TBOLT was coming out on Feb. 14th.

      • Anonymous

I guess my sarcasm didn’t translate well over the internets.

  • Hoot352

I still don’t know if I can believe it’s actually coming out or not. The ZOOM was announced what, 2 weeks before release. With Verizon throwing out as many advertisements as they have with this phone and dubbing it the first LTE Smartphone, why have they not OFFICIALLY givin the release date of this phone? If it was just soe throw away phone then ya, I wouldn’t expect to hear anything in advance as to when it would appear. But the TBOLT is anything but a throw away phone. It’s Verizons new top of the line LTE phone!
    Skepticism still exists.
    Optimism does as well.

    • Anonymous

The DX wasn’t officially announced until a day or 2 before it was released for sale

      • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

thats not true. i remember knowing that i was going to be out while i was on a trip, 2 weeks prior to going. maybe it wasn’t OFFICIALLY

        • Tim242

It wasn’t officially announced until 2 days before release.

  • Anonymous

dual core, quad core, whatever…. this phone is available NOW (hopefully anyway). I’ve always been down to get something better, and I will. I’ll rock the bolt until i get tired of it, and then get whatever multi core goodness is available down the road.

The TBOLT is a beast, and yes it is an upgraded EVO… more RAM, better processor, better camera, and 40 gigs out of the box son. i’m hoping the smaller battery size (1400mAh) is due to the efficiency of the 2nd gen SnDrgn. Can’t wait to mod this bad boy.

Man, this release is getting more and more real by the second.

    • Alvinm 77

      Couldn’t of said it better!

    • VanillaIce

But for $249 sheesh. I would only get this on a BOGO.

  • Alvinm 77

Its gonna be a slow 2 days. Glad VZW fixed what the needed to and feels comfortable to release the phone. Now HTC needs to fix their site so we can get the full experience!

  • NCX

When I said Tuesdays launches, i was referring to CTIA on the 22nd.

Do you guys think dual core is worth it??? this or bionic?

    • KSChris

I really don’t think dual core is anything to go out of your way for right now. It’s going to be pretty under-utilized unless you’re into gaming.

I suspect a lot of bitching and moaning in these comments sections once all these dual cores come out about it being disappointing.

      • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

        I think your wrong’

        • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

Dual cores will be the real deal but this phone great as’well so either way you get a great phone

          • Alvinm 77

Yeah, a real deal one day, but not now. I’ll definitely be getting a multi core device in the future tho.

      • Alvinm 77

Exactly. My friend hated his Atrix a got the Inspire. Now he’s happy.

      • Hoot352

I agree, I think this phone is going to do very well for the next while. I think once the RAM and ROM is bumped up in quality, along with a few other things, then then Dual core phone will be good. I’ll personally waiting for a while before getting a dual core. This phone already has awesome benchmarks and is proven upgraded technology with it’s new 1Ghtz Snapdragon processor. I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this phone.

Also, it’s htc’s second try at it’s already successful EVO. You KNOW it’s gonna be better

    • http://twitter.com/TuxDotKing Avichi Suite

I’d go Bionic. If the Atrix is anything to go by, it’ll fly once you replace the Blur Launcher. The Atrix was also one of the few Androids Engagdet gave a 9/10, for it’s speed, high res display and sound quality; and the Bionic is just the Atrix with a few modifications, and of course it’s on Verizon.

Thunderbolt is a good phone too, but I think dual-core’s worth waiting for. Don’t believe the hype either, you will NOT be waiting until Android 2.4 for the OS to make full use of the CPU. Atrix/Bionic both have kernels with SMP support rolled right in, so you can make the most of your fancy new specs even on Froyo.

  • NCX

htcsense.com has been down for over 24hrs now, it could be related but it also could just be maintenance preparing for Tuesday’s new device launches and possibly the sites grand opening, its still in beta right now.
