Winamp 1.0 Released on Android: Major UI Changes, Free Music Downloads, and Voice Action Support

Winamp really whipped the update’s a** with this one.  Version 1.0 is available for download and in it you’ll find a new look for lock, now playing and home screens.  They also added support for the “Listen to” Google Voice action, swiping of album art to switch tracks, and a bunch of new languages.  Most importantly though, they added a free music streaming and download serice.  It looks like these are artists who have happily donated their music, but still, who doesn’t love free stuff?

A few things I’ve noticed and want:
    1) Finally added album swiping for next track (a must for switching songs while driving, no longer need to look down to find the small >> button)
    2) During the time I used PowerAmp, i noticed poweramp is MUCH faster than Winamp, they need to fix that ASAP. Poweramp switches songs instantly rather than a 1-2 second lag like winamp, and the scrolling is smooth as butter, unlike the stuttery scrolling of Winamp.
    3) EQ is a must, the EQ on Poweramp made all my songs sound a ton better.
    4) Allow removal of ugly extra buttons on the front screen, especially if they plan to add shoutcast, I’m good off that, and would rather not have another ugly button my screen.

That was the FIRST thing I thought when reading this. I won’t give up sound quality for voice activation. I’m sticking with PowerAMP for now.

I like the idea but the one for computers doesn’t even have one

Try again, winamp for pc has had an eq for probably the last decade.

I was told they are working on adding an eq but that the latest update wouldn’t include it yet.

I use DSPManager, works well enough regardless of how you are listening to your music. Headset profile, loudspeaker profile, and Bluetooth profile. So if I listen to music in the car, I can turn up the bass. Then when i listen through my ear buds, i can have more treble since they arent as nice as sub. and lastly i can turn up the mids while using the phones loudspeaker so that it doesnt blow

Lots of permissions that I don’t understand but I’ll upgrade anyway. Got a cool winamp t shirt and some bumper stickers from them so they can’t be that bad :)

Looks like no shoutcast love for the OGD either.

ShoutCast was working on the previous version prior to the update. Droid X.

No Droid X love for ShoutCast. ‘Coming Soon’ per their blog. The new version is a nice improvement, but I’ve been wanting a good ShoutCast player for Android for a while.
