i love free apps just like the next guy but i don’t mind paying for apps that are high quality and useful. money is one of the reason iOS has superior apps. Android apps are way to easy to pirate. All you need is the .apk and any 12yo can adb pull and post it on your favorite forum.

That may be true but then prices get hiked up for apps. We would also have less free apps. Im actually happy with the state of android. There are still plenty of free quality apps arriving everyday. You worry about sales ill worry bout other things.

That is a simplistic way to view sales. The more sales and more people using any platform equals more money for developers of said platform. The more developers making real money equals higher quality apps which equals a better experience for the end user. So to answer your question no i don’t own stock but that has nothing to do with my desire for sales of the platform i use.

I bought the Xoom for 850… I liked it, but that was almost a Grand for a machine that hardly did anything my D2 Global couldn’t do… I saw the Asus Eee Slate and I found it to be amazingly fast, with a full blown Windows 7 OS. The machine is so smooth, and photoshop with the digitizer is heavenly. All of that for just $175 more than the relatively useless Xoom.

I’m getting an Ipad 2 on Fri. to use as my casual tablet, as the Asus Eee will be strictly for work since its battery life is only 3.5 hours…but, I just couldn’t justify 850 for a Xoom… Ipad 2 does a lot more, runs smoother, and its a lot cheaper. I can’t wait for the 2nd gen of the Asus Eee Slate. Thats gonna be incerdible.

Should I really wait for a QuadCore Tablet? Who all here think it will be here before August? Asus is stating they are releasing a quadcore this year, but when Christmas? I can wait 3 or 4 months, but I don’t know about 6.
Thoughts?

You are not the first person I’ve heard is returning the Xoon.It got decent reviews but overall people don’t seem blown away like they thought they would be.

Based on the ifixit tear down of the xoom and comparison against an ipad cost for cost Moto has plenty of room to move their 3G/4G tablet down in price but they aren’t. I just ordered an ipad 64GB 3G from our corp rewards program and already have it sold (1st gen) so I will take that cash and put it towards a different tablet.

Problem is I would very much prefer to get a Wi-Fi XOOM but I have a lot of iPad apps from the one I sold last year. Tough decision, but luckily I can wait a few weeks and see if the Wi-Fi XOOM does come out.

Android tablet manufacturers need to think long-term. Price these first generation tablets very low…lower thant the iPad. They may not make as much profit from them as they would like, but consumer loyalty among a percentage of the buyers will translate into virtually guaranteed sales of future generations of Android tablets (assuming they didn’t produce absolute junk the first time).

The difference between the manufactures selling Android devices and Apple is that Apple makes additional money through iTunes/iBooks sales, which can offset lower profit margins of the devices themselves. This is the same thinking that led to lower prices for Amazon’s Kindles and Barnes & Noble’s Nooks. Motorola, HTC, etc rely on sales of the devices themselves for all their profit. Google has the most to gain from widespread adoption of Android since it generates continuous revenue through Android Market sales and mobile ads. For this reason Google should consider subsidizing the price of tablets or offering a rebate program.
