Google Voice for Honeycomb is in the Works

We talked about how the lack of Google Voice support for Honeycomb has been a little frustrating in this post, but we assumed that Google was working on it and would one day bring joy and happiness to our tablet experience.  Sure enough, it’s now looking like that time could be sooner than expected, according to Zeke over at the Google Support forums.

Hi everyone,

Glad to hear from so many Xoom early adopters! As you’ve noticed, Google Voice isn’t available for Honeycomb yet. We’re working on it, and I’ll update this thread as more info is available.

Thanks,
-Zeke

Hopefully “we’re working on it” means tomorrow.  OK, that’s a little greedy.  Wednesday then?  I kid, I kid.

Cheers to everyone who sent this!

I can’t honestly choose between the Xoom and iPad 2. I’ve been a huge Android fan since the Droid 1 (still my phone), but this has allowed me to see the positives AND negatives of Android. I played with a Xoom and I came away relatively impressed, but it was pretty heavy IMO and the screen wasn’t nearly as crisp as an iPads.

It’s telling that he actually refers to xoom owners as early adopters.

Not to worry to you XOOM owners – but Zeke has been promising a LOT of things at Google’s Android Support and not really coming through with very many of them. So hold your breathe not.

Thanks for reporting this, good news! Next wishes for the XOOM:

Google cloud print support! Should be an option in the browser, and a “share to” link.
Be able to write reviews in the market on the tablet itself (it’s strange this feature isn’t there.. am I just missing it?)
Change the user-agent to mimic desktop chrome until enough people are aware of the new tablet agent string.

You can try these steps from the xda forum. One guy says he was able to get it working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984111

My xoom is on the UPS truck so I cant test it yet

    Wonderful news!

I was thinking it would also be nice if Google would release a “chrome to phone” for Honeycomb, but it would send sites from your tablet to your phone and vice versa. This would really be great considering how closely Honeycomb’s browser resembles the desktop version of Chrome. Is there anywhere that we could request of suggest this to Google?

What about getting the apk from your phone (rooted, obv) and installing it on your Xoom? Why hasn’t anyone tried this? I have google voice on my Adam tablet…

The current apk doesn’t work on Honeycomb, and your Adam obviously doesn’t have Honeycomb…
