Thunderbolt Delayed! Here we go again…

Reports all over the place today suggest that the Thunderbolt has been pushed past the 24th launch date and now landing on either the 28th or some time in March.  And that’s really all we have to say…just wanted to make sure we kept you all in the loop with us being such a “HypeBeast” and all.

Cheers Justin and Jason!

      thanks for the spam.

  • Gnhth

who give a crap it’s a crappy phone anyway

    • Give me my TBolt

If you don’t care then why waste your time in this forum??

  • RaginCaun92

Here’s a thought, How about all these Android blogs stop reporting “I heard from a reliable source” stories as news. It’s just getting our hopes up! Report something when you have a concrete date instead of unofficial information!

  • Stevewest87

This would concern me if the phone was dual core I was excited for it until dual core became commonplace but now the thunderbolt is just another outdated unreleased phone so what?

    • Tim242

If you knew anything about what you speak of, you wouldn’t appear so stupid. As of now, the OS doesn’t even support dual cores. Only certain apps will support it fully. The Thunderbolt has a new gen processor that is more efficient and fast as hell. It scores 2000 on quadrant. In comparison, the Evo scores 1100. Anybody that passes this phone up because it doesn’t have a useless, battery-hogging second core, is beyond stupid. Just sayin…

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R4DLVP6L4ZJ7BMZT2EVHRKD5TE NyR

Phandroid has an article showing that the 24th is still accurate.

  • Anonymous

maybe they will put a dual-core in it by time it comes out…

    • Tim242

Why would you want a useless, battery-hogging second core? This phone scores 2000 quadrant. In comparison, the Evo scores 1100.

        I was kidding… sheesh

  • Destructive_hippie

Well I was at a local store today and was talking to the manager there who just happened to be taking rlthe training on the device at the time. I asked him if he had any info I could get from him he said 4g will be 29.99 unlimited until further notice along with an expected date of the 23 or 24 so I assumed 24 as it has been going around. I talk to this Guy ALOT so I trust him plus if they are taking the training on it I would assume its really close as this isn’t even a corporate store. So I’m skeptical about another delay as he told me they already have them ordered and they should be arriving next week.

    • Sdouglas3673

I called best buy (again.. disquising my voice.. hehe) and they confirmed the date of the 24th still… I want my HTC!!!

    • Anonymous

If 29.99 is the price at launch for 4g, can they just change it at anytime? Would the change in terms be considered a contract violation?

      • http://twitter.com/piinkhibiscus bethinabox

If you sign up for a $29.99 data plan on a 2 year contract, they wont change that on you. Not until you swap your device or upgrade or whatever. If they’re nice, they’ll grandfather you in like AT&T did with the unlimited data plan, but who knows…

I am going with it is coming out on march 6th.

possibly delayed until March? If it came out this month, I wouldn’t be asking this question, but… sooo what other Verizon LTE phones are coming out in March?

  • Anonymous

i can wait. the force is still strong with my BB Storm

  • Anonymous

I hope it doesn’t take too much longer. I only have a month left to return my X to Costco.

Sweet, my contract runs out on the 28th, so that’s the first day I can pick it up anyway. The planets must be aligning themselves or something…

Instead of everyone being a slacktivist, and writing on these sites (myself included)… why not fire off a letter to Verizon. They do not care that you complain on a website they do not run. However, add up all the Thunderbolt comments across all the Android website and turn those into letters or email, you will get their attention.

The longer it takes this phone to come out the more likely I am to wait for the Bionic.

  • Joe

I think that HTC made a mistake in not releasing this phone before MWC. Now that we have seen all the new dual core and quad core phones coming out in the next 6 months this phone has lost a lot of it’s luster. The only thing that will make me seriously consider this phone now is if it launches with the Netflix app, otherwise I’m just going to wait for the Droid Bionic.

  • Pertter_G

I am a virezon employee for over 15 ywears and most likely, they will hold off as late as possible to ger as many iphones out and then let the thunderbolt out, I have seen it before so im thinking mid March!!

Come on Kellex…. get your facts straight.

“just wanted to verify with everyone that it is infact being released on the 24th. in our systems we have a large order coming on the 23rd. so it is definately being released on the 24th

    • mdeblaz

a large order? 18 units… or is that 18 cases?

      • Anonymous

For a brand new phone for a store in a smaller city, not NYC, LA, etc. 18 units is a large order. My local Verizon store only had about 20 Droid X’s on release day.

Small retail store. 18 is the first shipment and more will arrive later on in the week.

18 is probably going to sell in the first hour.

    • Anonymous

      i love you.

    • Give it up

Is this at Verizon store or Best Buy?? 18 units or cases??

      • John R Ruddick

        Unit. Verizon Retailer.

    • http://twitter.com/rusty_richards Rusty Richards

      I hope $569 is the VZW retail…

      • John R Ruddick

No, thats how much the phones were bought for. You can add $150 – $200 to the price.

        • Tim242

That is a lie. Best Buy’s retail is $749. Their retail is always much higher than carriers.

          • John R Ruddick

I guarantee that you will NOT be able to walk in and buy a Thunderbolt off contract for $569.

          • Tim242

At Verizon, you will. The Evo retails $450 at Sprint, $600 at Best Vuy. They
            are always higher.

          • John R Ruddick

It’s going to retail for ~$700.

          • Tim242

If you say so. What was the last phone that retailed that high? That’s what
            I thought.

          • John R Ruddick

I don’t think you understand that it costs a lot more to manufacture this phone than previous generations. More RAM, different radios, different parts etc. PLUS they are making you pay for the “free” 32 GB SD card they included. It all adds up.

          • Tim242

A little more, but not $200 more.

          • KSChris

Unless of course they’re also adding in the money they will lose on the unlimited 4G for $29.99 that was rumored, rather than going with a more expensive plan.. that, the 32 GB SD card, and the higher expenses to manufacture the phone.. $200 more sounds about right.

          • Tim242

The Atrix is higher spec’d and isn’t $200 more.

          • John R Ruddick

There has to be enough room for profit. Verizon buys Thunderbolts from HTC and resells them to the public at a marked up price. These phones are more expensive for Verizon so they will be more expensive fore us, resulting in a much higher price since it is made by HTC and not Motorola.

          • Tim242

You are grasping at straws now. You’ll see soon enough.

          • Tim242

At Verizon, you will. The Evo retails $450 at Sprint, $600 at Best Vuy. They
            are always higher.

    • Hoot352

That shows an ETA : Estimated Time of Arrival”
      It’s not definite.

  • http://twitter.com/MarkyD311 MarkyD

If it gets delayed past the 24th, I can honestly say I’m throwing in the towel on this bullshit.

  • http://twitter.com/MarkyD311 MarkyD

If it gets delayed past the 24th, I can honestly say I’m throwing in the towel on this bullshit.

    • KSChris

LOL.. I find replies like this hilarious.

You’re impatient and unwilling enough to buy a lesser phone (and the 2 year contract that comes with it) just because you can’t wait an extra couple days or weeks?

It’s your money.. but that’s hilarious to me. It’s just a phone. If people wouldn’t obsess over it so much, all these non-announcements wouldn’t be an issue.

This, and other sites, are mainly at fault for getting people’s hopes up on the various rumored dates as is..

  • Marcus

thisis getting crazy cause at&t has the inspire 4g out now which is basicly the thunderbolt without the kick stand

    • Tim242

Without the true 4G, without the FFC, without Skype video, without the 768 Megs of RAM, without the 8 Gigs of internal, Without the 32 Gig SD, Without the new camera sensor, Without the SLCD screen, Without the Verizon network to back it up. So, far from being the same phone!

Hate to say it, but with the way things look now, Tbolt is gonna flop big time. a combo of terrible policies and greed is going to really F them over. first they delay it to ‘make room’ for iphone 4 sales, which didn’t do as well as they expected. now, with the date where it is, it looks like the tbolt is going to get crowded out by the other big time phones. And by big time, i mean motorola. Atrix 4G is right around the corner, and the bionic is coming sometime in march. And then there’s also the 250$ price point… inspire 4g is somewhere around 100, atrix is around 200. consumers are going to ask themselves this question: Why in the world would i want a 250 phone, while i can get a similar phone (the inspire 4g) for half as much on att or pay 50 less for a dual core (Atrix 4g for at&t or bionic w/ verizon) which is coming out at around the same time anyway? Motorola is in a very strong position right now, and they can dominate in the first two quarters this year. in the end, i think people will see ‘shiny dual core’ and not ‘sense ui or timely updates.’ This is all speculation of course, but I await HTC’s next move.

    • Tim242

People on Verizon aren’t going to switch to att for the inspire. General consumers won’t care about dual core lol. You shouldn’t either.

  • Vcthekidd

That’s it, I’m just gonna get a Evo

    • Anonymous

Don’t do it, you’ll regret making a hasty move like that.

What if we could all save everyone’s reputation and adopt the ROM developer’s mantra- it’ll be ready when its ready.

  • Bucho2k

    Shocking.

Verizon really needs to just announce a date already. I’m getting sick and tired of the date changing everyday. It’s coming the 17th, No the 21st, No the 24th, No the 28th, No sometime in March. I’m almost to the point where I don’t even want this phone anymore. If this phone comes out after the 26th, its probably a no for me. I was hoping to use the free buyback at Best Buy, so we’ll see. I’m still gonna believe the 24th until something official comes out. Android Central and Droid-Life have both said this date was heard from credible sources, and I trust these two sites way more than any others.

    • Anonymous

I bet you Best Buy will extend the promo if the phone isn’t launched by the 24 th

  • Dshudson

  • EdB

If i can wait till March, I can wait till May. We’ll see how the Bionic and iphone 5 look.

All the delays and functionality working, not working (skype, hotspot), I am not sure I trust this phone will work properly anymore.

    • badger28

that is my thought if it comes out and the bionic is close, I will have a tough decision on my hands.
IT IS MY THUNDERBOLT AND I WANT IT NOOWW

      • NCX

have fun with the MotoBlur then, Don’t forget the Incredible S is also coming in the next month or so to Verizon. Dual Core phones aren’t all that much needed yet, i can understand why HTC hasn’t announced any yet, they announced quad core chips at MWC, so if HTC wants to stay ahead they’ll likely drop the ball and make a first for the quad. Don’t buy into the Dual Core hype, if you need a little re-assurance the ThunderBolt is fast enough, check this vid out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-3MOvuPFvU It shows how fast it really is, and this is a pre-production model at that.

      • Anonymous

Tbolt is rooted and NANDed (kernels and custom ROMs galore). Bionic won’t get custom kernels if they couldn’t crack that safe on the DX and D2.

    • RadYOacTiVe

I agree, waiting a little longer only helps me get closer to the Bionic or maybe even the LG Revolution. I’ll stay away from the Samsung LTE phone, they have been horrible about updating the Galaxy S and don’t believe it will be any better.

  • Glpd46

atrix is coming out on the 22nd. hopefully this will push verizon to release the tbolt to save customers. i know alot of people that want the atrix.

  • DBEvans

The sources seem to all tie back to a source that claims “We have it on good terms from one of our most reliable Best Buy contacts that on a conference call this morning the HTC Thunderbolt will NOT be making an appearance next week at Best Buy.” … “According to our tipster it is because of production issues”

No mention on if the “delay” is specific to Best Buy, or if it impacts the full launch from Verizon.

Also, interrestingly, if you check the blog of everyone’s favorite panda … he stated over a week ago: “March was supposed to be the date but market pressure and customer demand has alot of people working extremely hard to get the device out asap.” Sounds to me like March was the original date at VZW, and anything earlier was only an if-possible to-be-hoped target. Is it really delayed if it’s just slipping back to the original dates?

    • NCX

I would say no its not delayed, Verizon even said at CES that “we can expect to start seeing these new devices as early as March” but market pressure is also growing with the news that the Atrix 4G is coming out “Earlier than expected” (sound familiar?) on Feb 22nd. Sounds to me either AT&T is getting scared or Motorola is too and its becoming a nice big party.

      • Destin4death

lol…. Atrix 4G such a load of garbage seeing as AT&T don’t even have a 4g network. this idea of AT&T and T-Mobile all of a sudden claiming 4G even tho they have not changed. The are using HSPA+ and calling it 4G now even tho they have been using it for months and it was always 3G. Fact is it is not 4G and again dumb americans believe they are getting something better because what they see on TV.

        • NCX

Unfortunately your right, its like with the iPhone, people get it because “oh its by Apple” or “I gotta have it because everyone else does” I think the EVO cartoon can put that into the best perspective :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bcryQUuDwM
Now we need a 4G vs HSPA+ lol
