It has basically been confirmed that LG will release some sort of 3D smartphone product at MWC in February, but we’re still trying to figure out if we care. Obviously 3D technology in cameras and displays is going to be the next fad, so are you interested? NVIDIA is almost ready to launch their Tegra 2 that was built specifically for 3D displays which means phones with the technology are right around the corner. Are you ready for 3D fun in your smartphone? Do you care if your phone has 3D features? Still waiting to see how it’ll play out? Let us know!
NVIDIA Prepares Launch of 3D 1.2GHz and Quad-core 1.5GHz Tegra Processors
We’re still waiting for the first Tegra 2 dual-core smartphone to become available, but that hasn’t stopped NVIDIA from preparing their next generation of chips. If this leaked roadmap is correct, we should start preparing for a new Tegra 2 every couple of months with the first being one that will support 3D displays and can be clocked at 1.2GHz. With all of the talk about LG and the possibility of them launching the first 3D phone at MWC, we could be seeing these much sooner than any anticipated. And let’s not forget that NVIDIA announced LG’s Optimus 2X as the “world’s first” Tegra 2 phone, so we won’t be surprised at all if they get the first 3D one.
The roadmap doesn’t stop there though. How does a quad-core Tegra 3 clocked at 1.5GHz sound? Remarkable right? Well what if we told you that devices could start seeing these processors in the Fall of this year? Your mind is probably blown now, so we’ll give you a minute to let that settle.
The smartphone world is evolving more quickly than I think any of us had ever imagined. We just spent a week at CES watching companies rave about their new Tegra 2 devices, but we had no idea that we’d all be moving past it in such a hurry.
Can you imagine the power of a quad-core Android phone?

The Limited Edition Droid Life Hoodie Winner is…
It’s time to announce another contest winner here at Droid Life! In just one day we had over 900 entries which blows my mind. We can’t thank you all enough for the massive amount of support. This community just keeps getting better by the day and it has been a pleasure to watch it grow from day 1.
So what was up for grabs? A limited edition Droid Life hoodie with special pink branding. This is as “limited” as it gets and will likely never be available for mass consumption. Luckily, we have a few, so maybe someone else will have a chance to win one later on. For now though, we’ve got one winner…
@Maizekidstill81
Congrats Dave! We’ve already reached out to him and are in the process of getting his info. Stay tuned though, we have so much stuff to give away right now that you won’t want to miss it.
Thanks again everyone.
Google I/O Site is Live, Honeycomb and Google TV Apps Sessions Listed
Last year’s Google I/O was an epic event that featured the first signs of Gingerbread, Honeycomb, a music service and a browser-based Android app market. While the last two in that list weren’t released for public consumption, we’re fully expecting to see them at this year’s I/O. And speaking of this year’s event, the official landing page for it has gone live with a cute little countdown. Registration isn’t open yet, but it should be on February 7th.
We’ll do our best to be in attendance this year for the 2 keynotes, and after looking at the list of sessions already on the site, we have an idea as to the direction they may be headed:
- Building Web Apps for Google TV
- Building Android Apps for Google TV
- Designing and Implementing Android UIs for Phones and Tablets
- Honeycomb Highlights
Sound like a good lineup so far? Google TV market on the way plus a bunch of tablet talk is exactly what we were hoping for. Can’t wait to see what the Android team has up their sleeves too; this is going to be a can’t-miss event.
Oh, and we should point out that attendees all received an HTC EVO last year. XOOMs this year?
And here is last year’s day 2 keynote for your viewing pleasure.
Google Voice Number Porting is Official, Here is a Video Explanation
Google Voice number porting isn’t exactly new, we wrote about it 5 days ago, but today it became a little more official. The Google team even tossed together a quick little video to help get your number ported over and service back up and running.
We’d like to remind you all though, that by porting over your number, you’ll be cancelling your contract with your current carrier. This could result in some unwanted fees, so proceed with caution. Most of you will want to wait until your contract is up before going this route. If you want to have your same phone number forever though, this is something to consider.
HTC Flyer Tablet Specs Released?
The first rumor for the HTC Flyer pegged it as a Gingerbread (Android 2.3) tablet that is upgradeable to Honeycomb and is currently scheduled to see the light of day in March. Last night though, some specs snuck onto the interwebs, leaving us well, a little disappointed. As more information comes out, the Flyer is looking more and more like the next Galaxy Tab rather than a competitor to the Motorola XOOM.
HTC Thunderbolt Accessories Headed to Best Buy on February 19
All talk these days seems to be about the Motorola XOOM, but that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about Verizon’s first 4G LTE device, the HTC Thunderbolt. According to some new info we’ve received from our friends at Best Buy, it looks like they plan on having accessories for the TBolt in stock on 2/19 which puts the release date still on schedule for the last week of the month just like our sources have been telling us. Normally when accessories become available at BB, the device they are paired with comes out a few days later.
Yep, we’re back into phone mode again. Can February get here any faster?
