You’re one of the lucky ones to still be with Alltel. I wished my area was one of the markets divested. Alltel was the best.

Verizon does not own Alltel, it only acquired the majority of Alltel. Also per wiki…The merger was approved by the FCC on the condition that Verizon divest 105 Alltel markets. AT&T acquired 79 of those markets. Atlantic Tele-Network acquired the remaining 26 divested Alltel markets, including licenses, network assets and 800,000 subscribers. These remaining markets continue to be operated by Allied Wireless, a subsidiary of ATN, under the Alltel name.

I’m also surprised to see big red pass this up. But I’m still with Alltel and I do not even want this phone. Let’s make a deal, you can have the Merge back but send us the Thunderstorm and Bionic. Oh yeah, you can keep the iPhone as well.

Seriously, I think most Alltel customers stick around because the prices and fees are so much less than with Verizon. But because the customer base is so small now, we have to wait a while for the latest devices. We currently have the Desire, which is a very nice Android, but I’m waiting for the Droid X to be offered along with this Merge or hopefully sooner.

I’ve also been waiting for this. Since late September 2010, actually. Pretty pissed to find out I waited all this time for nothing. Verizon gets the best coverage by far in my area and Alltel gets none here so this is equivalent to the Merge not being released at all if it’s true. I can’t stand the D2′s keyboard and the other rival networks get terrible reception here so I’ve been waiting for months for a *good* QWERTY keyboard phone on a *good* network and the Merge was going to be it…ugh. Now I guess my choices are between a crappy phone with Verizon or a good phone on a different network that I would get next to no reception with. Thanks Verizon! You may be at the top in terms of coverage but you’re clearly at rock bottom in terms of phones.

I tried to check the alltel site, but punching in every area code i know of in the south yielded an error message saying that they don’t offer service. I can’t even look at their current phone line up…
hopefully when it does come out, there would be a channel for the phone to be sold elsewhere like Best Buy or something…..

I really hope that someone just put Alltel wallpaper on an HTC Merge and I really hope that Verizon still releases this phone. However I’m worried that Droid Life is correct and that Verizon shelved the Merge because the form factor is very similar to the Droid 2 / Droid 2 Global.

I told my friend who’s on Verizon and wants to upgrade from an enV3 to a smartphone with a physical keyboard to wait for the HTC Merge because this keyboard looks so much better than the keyboard on the Droid 2 Global.

Verizon and ATT didnt buy them all. They bought most of them but there are still some stores in Illinois, Indiana, and a few other places.

Meh. I was interested in the keyboard, not interested in Bing. Not too worried about seeing it go. Hopefully we good a nice Verizon DROID with a good keyboard soon.
