Rumor: Thunderbolt and Samsung 4G LTE Device Will Launch Last Week of February

We’ve received word that helps confirm our assumption that the HTC Thunderbolt will launch in the last week of February, but what we didn’t expect is the idea that it could have a partner.  According to our sources, regional Verizon reps are confirming to their clients that the current schedule is to have both the unnamed Samsung 4G LTE device and the Thunderbolt out at the same time.  Marketing materials are starting to appear with these details and testers with both devices are reporting nothing but good things, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that there are no last minute delays.  Oh, we’ve also heard that the Samsung device will NOT come loaded with Bing, which we’re happy to hear as we were bracing ourselves for the worst.

Cheers ___!

  • Nativi

the Bionic is duel core but only 512 ram, while the Thunderbolt has 768 ram so it will be pretty much the same

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HVJ4L6XC4KFQLGN2IPEERSSHBU Daniel

I am not sure but, I believe the new Samsung phone is in fact the newly rumored Samsung Pecan. I know that it has another name but as we all know code-names change like constantly. The FCC schematics for the Pecan show the 2 phones are shaped exactly alike. Who knows its just a guess no matter what its called it will be a welcomed addition to the android family.

  • Corymcnutt

I’m worried about the physical buttons on the Samsung…old fashioned looking and a possible breakage area.

  • http://twitter.com/teardropcity matt wheeler

NO WAY BRO I NEED QUAD CORE PROCESSOR, UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER WITH 20 DOLLAR GIFT CARD, UNLIMITED 5G DATA WITH FREE TETHERING FOR MY ENTIRE OFFICE AND APARTMENT BUILDING, FRONT BACK AND SIDE FACING HD 1090P CAMERAS, 45 DAY BATTERY LIFE, 13 NEW ROMS EVERY HOUR, MICRO HDMI OUT, MINI HDMI OUT, FULL SIZE HDMI OUT, USB 1.0, 2.0 AND 3.0, ANDROID OS UPDATES SENT DIRECTLY FROM MY BRAIN, AND NO MAIL IN REBATE

    • Anonymous

Well the Mail in Rebate will be a deal breaker

      1090p. hehe

Serious question (meaning I don’t want anyone to bash me for being ignorant on the subject) but what is the point of having two processors?

It’s funny how the i*hone trolls think taking over DL will help it take over android LOL

If I had to choose between the thunderbolt and the samsung one. I would choose the thunderbolt hands down… or i can just wait for the Bionic.. i think the choice is clear :)

  • guest

    bionic worth the wait

  • Dshudson

Am i supposed to get a hard on here… I have a Droid X.. Who is doing the switch? I am more concerned on getting my hands on Xoom tablet. The ifags are in tech heaven right now with ipad.. can i get some love with a decent tablet.. wtf

    • KleenDroid

If roms are not important to you then you are right it’s no big deal maybe. There will be even better phones in the future. I also have an X, but I got used to the freedom I had when I had my Droid 1 with flashing of “real” custom roms. My DX denies me that freedom which is why there is interest in HTC phones from many with Moto phones.

It is really sad that those with a Droid 1 can load far better software than we can with our X. As time goes on more and more people just don’t realize the freedom that was taken away from us. Many are satisfied with stock Blur software, and others are satisfied with the roms that rehash the same stuff on the X. But those of us that had a Droid 1 and got used to it miss what we could do. HTC phones and Samsung phones can do things that Motorola phones will never be able to do again. (unless moto unlocks the bootloader which isn’t likely)

I really want this phone but does anyone know how easy it is to see the screen outside? I know its kind of an issue with the incredible.

All I can say is MEH! Apple is going to kill android. I know i’ll be ditching android for the iphone

Android is already beating Apple, and that’s not going to change anytime soon.

  • Scea67

No thanks I will wait for the bionic !!

  • Anonymous

This just in Samsung’s leaked Android upgrade process is telling consumers to just buy a new phone every 6 – 12 months from them to get the latest software. In related news their new phones will not ship with power chords or battery covers, you’ll have to pick them up as accessories with your phone.

  • VZ iPhone. It Begins.

    wooooo, another RUMOR…. Shocking!

  • lochman

Unfortunately it doesn’t matter. With the iPhone coming to Verizon it will spell the end of these devices. The thunderbolt is an evo clone which came out 8 months ago and Samsung has made nothing but junk with their Android devices. Then their will be a new iPhone in the summer and Android will be a afterthought.

  • Ben

I actually love the design of the Samsung phone.

But the lack of any manufacturer support, combined with that eyesore of an interface really is a turnoff. It’s a shame, too, because it looks like it’s much more solid than the plastic-y past that Samsung is known for.

  • DBK

Love the generic cheers (unless that’s actually someone’s name). :)

  • globalphone

are any of these a global phone?

    • http://twitter.com/vdefender Taylor Abrahamson

Unlikely because they already have to have 2 radios in them, one for CDMA, and one for LTE, I don’t think they can fit another radio for GSM.

      • Anonymous

I ain’t considering buying either (especially not the Samsung lol.) until I get some LTE data pricing lol. I don’t think I’ll be able to afford a full price phone and LTE data.

    YES! But will they blend??

    • Sal33n

  • Anonymous

Maybe this explains why HTC changed their marketing from “first LTE phone” to “one of the first LTE phones.”

  • Hockeystud39

Im going to get the iphone because I have had a shitty blackberry 8330 and the track ball doesnt work and Im up for an upgrade anyways. The good thing is that iphones hold their value well so if these phones are indeed that much better i can sell it on ebay for a good $500 and buy whatever phone i want with that money.

Samsung needs to do something about updating their phones. HTC and motorola may not have have the cash flow like Samsung. And I could be wrong but I’m willing to bet they will always update their phones because they need the sales and customer satisfaction more at this point than Samsung even cares about.

A friend of mine that works for verizonwireless said at this point he may as well sell against the Samsung device for the simple fact that his personal customers will be more satisfied in the long run knowing HTC, Motorola and even LG will continue to support their devices for maintenance bugs or what have you. And at this point I can’t blame him. I currently have a DroidX, and I do like the fascinate but knowing this little fiasco I don’t think I’d get one now let alone a Samsung device.

    Still like their TVs though!

  • Kokomaung

any idea about pricing for LTE data plan?

    • Anonymous

For now were going with data is the same as 3g….which would attract a shitload more customers but not sure yet…

  • Raptor007

So much for HTC ThunderBolt being the “First again with 4G” on Verizon. I still do not see training taking place 41 days in advance of a launch, we have heard zero, nada about iPhone training and that comes out in 23 days. It just seems the TB could hit sooner with Samshizzle crap phone coming in late February.

    • http://twitter.com/vdefender Taylor Abrahamson

I agree, it doesn’t make any sense for reps to train on a phone now that they wont sell for another month and a half.. they wont even remember anything from the training. Something is very odd. I HOPE it comes out soooon

  • Klewis Kkl

Idk what to think about that Thunderbolt.

  • TheSonicEmerald

I have a Samsung Fascinate right now, and the lack of updates is pretty dissappointing, as well as being cheaply made. This is my last Samsung phone, and Im definitely getting the Bionix, or maybe even the LG Revolution. But that qHD resolution is tempting. Locked bootloader? Themes, bloatware removal, I’m set.

  • Anonymous

Finally, cya DX….P.S….thunderbolt has a 1400 mah battery but my friends incredible outlasts my x….by far…just charge it 12 hours before use….

    • Anonymous

I’m with you, love the build quality of the Droidx. But, its boring compared to the Htc Evo. I’m ready for a change, my last 2 phones have been Motorolas

      • Anonymous

Right? i mean this is faster, will have the same battery because of the better procssor and its made of metal with a kickstand! come on….im sure ill find a micro usb to hdmi cable somewhere and with that real hdmi app on the market… ;) ill let u know when i get it… :)

Bion…. oh wait, its been said. :)

  • tanknspank

The Samsung device doesn’t look bad, but with the whole ordeal about how they don’t want to push updates with the carriers paying makes me consider otherwise.

The Bionic would be a fine device, but lets put things into perspective. The Tegra 2, qHD display and DDR2 RAM are VERY nice. I’d love to have them. But with Motorola, we have come to expect one thing to be the same, and that is the very fact that the device is most likely locked. If it’s unlocked, or unlockable, will I reconsider the device? Hell yeah. But I just cannot buy into a device that will be locked down and held back, where I can have a way more enjoyable experience on another device with “lesser hardware”.

The Thunderbolt seems like a great device, ESPECIALLY for these times. 768 MB of RAM is a great asset, even if it’s SDRAM. The 2nd GEN snapdragon out preforms currently every single core cpu out there, and the adreno 205 gpu it has preforms quite well itself.

I will probably upgrade later on to the next dual core to appear on VZW, after the Bionic. Samsung (if they reconsider their idea that the carriers should have to pay for the incremental android updates) or HTC will probably roll out one soon after, making the Thunderbolt easily a great device to last me till then.

I wonder how many people will be disappointed in their purchase of the Bionic when another manufacturer rolls out something that out preforms it in most if not all major categories that people are buying the Bionic for now, plus that it will probably be unlockable making custom roms, kernels, and recoveries possible.

    • Anonymous

The Droid X and Droid 2 both got unlocked, whats to stop them from unlocking the bionic

      • tanknspank

The Droid X and 2 are NOT unlocked, and there is not a way to get around the lock they have placed on the bootloader. People have found ways to load half baked roms and buggy AOSP builds onto it, but they are no where near as unlocked as other phones. You can not load a custom kernel, are stuck using a half working hijacked recovery, and the custom roms on those phones are lack luster at best compared to some of the other phones available.

The community of the X and 2 are huge, but that does not get past the fact that they are still locked down and a pain to use more than what moto has intended for them to be used.

        • Anonymous

Damn, well maybe I won’t feel need to load custom roms with all that speed

          • tanknspank

Maybe not, but custom roms to me are more about the features and overall optimizations, and less on the “speed” of the device. THAT I do not want to give up.

          • Anonymous

Well as long as I can root than I’ll be fine

          • Jammy

all that speed slowed down by motoblur

unfortunately, you are unable to use your ne2 credit if you dont resign on a 2 year agreement.

Makes sense considering HTC retracted their statement as “the first to 4G again” to “one of the first”. Also, it’s interesting to see the 4G Samsung is “with Google”. Sadly that’s not the case with the LG Revolution.

      • Braainz

It looks exactly like every other Samsung device.

      • zero n

yeah this new samsung looks like black berry. lame

    • Anonymous

Why does everyone seem to think the Thunderbolt is going to be the best device on Verizon, including Kellex?! I agree everything about it is fantastic, besides screen colors (compared to super amoled plus) and it being not as high resolution as the rest of the phones. However, there is no dual core processor; leaving tons of phones running circles around it, even on the day it launches!

      • Anonymous

I can’t think of one dual-core phone that will be out when the Thunderbolt is released. The Samsung won’t be dual-core, the Revolution won’t be dual-core, and the Bionic won’t be out for a while.

      • Anonymous

      • KleenDroid

You are wrong. While the Moto Bionic may have a dual core, you will be stuck with whatever software Moto gives you. Unless you are happy with rehashing of the same software and calling it a rom. The Bionic will still have a locked bootloader just like the X and the D2…

The Thunderbolt has a new processor that is nothing to be poked fun at along with the MOST ram. Along with that it will not be locked down which will allow the real developer community to get behind it. While the Bionic will be playing around with removing blur and calling it a new rom….

I love my X, but am looking forward to dropping Motorola and never looking back.

      • Viper76269

you’re putting dual-core on a pedestal. yes it’s cool to think dual-core, but it also depends on how it utilizes the processor. i thought the snapdragon in my Dinc was fine. my friend has the evo and thats great. the Thunderbolt with the new snapdragon will be awesome. what are people going to do, try and calculate pi to the millionth digit? dual-core isn’t necessary, and no those phones will no run circles around the thunderbolt.

    • KleenDroid

But isn’t the Samsung easy to upgrade on your own? Are there 2.2 roms out there for the Samsung phones? Since the Samsung doesn’t have a locked bootloader wouldn’t it be better than having a Motorola phone that is stuck with what updates they give us? (ya I know we have roms, but they are just rehashing the same thing, it’s not the same…)

If you are not interested in flashing roms then it seems Samsung is not the way to go. To be honest I am surprised so many people got the Fascinate. However the girls that buy them could probably care less about upgrades since all they do is make phone calls and surf the net. I doubt there are many girls out there with the Fascinate that even knows what operating system they have, and they probably love their phone. And if you are a guy that purchased the Fascinate and are reading this…..(shame on you)… lol

      • zero n

any dude that has a fascinate probably has it rooted and outperforming every other phone on vzw

        • TheRealBeesley

You do realize that Android cannot even fully utilize a dual core processor right? Not even gingerbread, nor any apps on the market can fully use a dual core. The hype machine has your reality skewed. Just a bit :)
