Verizon’s Initial 2011 4G LTE Market Cities

During all of Verizon’s 4G LTE device madness, they walked through their plans for rolling out their new network to the rest of the country.  By the end of 2011, they are expecting to be in at least 140 markets and covering 2/3 of the U.S. once 2013 finishes up.  The overall goal is to have 4G LTE access in every single spot that they currently offer 3G service in.  Sounds brilliant, right?  Well other than the 38 cities that are currently offered, what can we expect in 2011?  If they plan to hit 140, they need to get going, right?

Here is the list of cities expected to see an initial push…

Huntsville, Alabama
Mobile, Alabama
Montgomery, Alabama
Little Rock, Arkansas
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Gainesville, Florida
Lakeland-Winter Haven, Florida
Pensacola, Florida
Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida
Tallahassee, Florida
Augusta, Georgia
Honolulu, Hawaii
Kahului-Wailuku, Hawaii
Lahaina, Hawaii
Boise-Nampa, Idaho
Carbondale-Marion, Illinois
Wichita, Kansas
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Hammond, Louisiana
Detroit, Michigan
Flint, Michigan
Fayetteville-Lumberton, North Carolina
Greensboro-Winston-Salem-High Point, North Carolina
Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina
Wilmington, North Carolina
Dayton-Springfield, Ohio
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Erie, Pennsylvania
State College, Pennsylvania
Charleston, South Carolina
Columbia, South Carolina
Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina
Hilton Head, South Carolina
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Chattanooga, Tennessee
Clarksville, Tennessee
Cleveland, Tennessee
Kingsport, Tennessee; Johnson City, Tennessee; Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee
Knoxville, Tennessee
Memphis, Tennessee
Beaumont-Port Arthur, Texas
Bryan-College Station, Texas
Provo-Orem, Utah
Salt Lake City-Ogden, Utah
Centralia, Washington
Olympia, Washington
Charleston, West Virginia
Madison, Wisconsin
Milwaukee, Wisconsin

That’s an additional 49 cities that will go live in the first part of the year and will be able to take advantage of some of the new devices like the HTC Thunderbolt and DROID BIONIC.  No Oregon though, eh?  I guess my Thunderbolt will be just as awesome in 3G.

Anyone seeing their city on the list?

Cheers Ian!

  • Cbaxter82

    Sioux Falls SD, whoohooo!!!!

  • Googlybear

They promised 2/3 of the population by then, which is different than 2/3 of the country.

I’m kinda mad that it won’t be available in Kansas City. Verizon is the only one who won’t have 4G here in Kansas City, if you consider HSPA+ a 4G network. But, my Verizon coverage sucks in KC, I could switch whenever.

  • Petergreco2

What is the top speed of LTE that verizon is advertising?

  • Mdn5024

State college, pa made the last!!

Bristol, VA but not Richmond??? Really????

  • Wrfwertf25
  • Djiss

Augusta, ga but not atlanta? That was a dumbass decision, there’s about 10,000 more customers in Atlanta….

    • Look

you must be stupid, because the Atl is already covered and one of the largest areas covered.

*sigh* just another sign that i need to get out of jersey

Areas in NJ are affected by Philadelphia and New York City 4G. For some reason Edison NJ has 4G coverage, for instance. Verizon/Bell Atlantic, headquartered in NJ, is not going to forget about us.

Charlotte is only one of a few cities in NC that even make a blip on the radar and they snubbed it for now. Sprint has excellent 4G coverage in Charlotte. Ghey.

    • Djiss

Ya and they picked Greensboro? I think there’s like 10 inbred red necks that live there

      • J188

You already have it in Charlotte! It was one of the first 38 cities. Try reading. And I’m from Greensboro.

        • Anonymous

So you’re an inbred redneck? :P

  • kawika

  • J_rocca42

Olympia, WA baby! Getting a Verizon 4g phone asap!

  • El El Kool J

Keep in mind that if you live near one of those cities maybe up to 40-60 miles away you could be part if that market..so hence you have 4G coverage.. Your welcome.. :P

No Buffalo, huh? The Queen City gets no love. . .Just as well, I probably can’t afford it anyway.

  • dersnuka

Wow…my town of Sioux Falls, SD will have 4G before Nebraska, Iowa, Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota. I love my DX, but I don’t know how long i’ll be able to wait before getting a BIONIC.

  • i am fake jesus

fayetteville nc!!!! score, now where are the 4g phones?

Why do some states (fl and oh) have like six, while the whole north west only has one? Here in new brunswick,nj we apparently have 4g coverage.

How can they leave Portland metro area out?

    • Nick

I have no idea. We are a top 25 market, yet there are nearly 90 markets ahead of us. I asked a Verizon LTE rep about this (I work for a local business journal) and she had no good answer for me.

  • Odude316

How come no Birmingham, Al , but have Mobile, Huntsville, an Montgomery.

    • Sam

I know, right? Huntsville before Birmingham? Seriously?
Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama with 242,000 people, followed by Montgomery then Mobile. Huntsville lags in fourth with only 158,000 yet still gets 4G before Birmingham. Makes no sense, VZ.
Even if you want to use Nasa to justify Huntsville, you still could have upgraded us instead of Mobile. Its just full of a bunch of aging snowbirds who wouldn’t know what to do with 4G if it bit ‘em.

Come on San Bernardino, California. I need some 4G loving other than Los Angeles California.

  • Anonymous

What, not Bloomer, WI (population 3,157)???

I’m not holding my breath for LTE. I live two hours from Minneapolis, 4 hours from Milwaukee, and 6 hours from Chicago. It’s a miracle that I even have 3G.

  • Hungry Bruh

I’m surprised my small city of Gainesville, Florida, is going to get 4G. I guess it’s only right to put it in a huge college town where there are many tech-savvy kids. I went to Miami for the holidays, and they already have 4G down there.

  • Creativecatalyst1

None of the 8 major markets? Who cares! my contract is not due till end of 2012 anyhow.

  • Gilgamesh1082

Add Bossier City, Louisiana to that list. We’ve been experiencing a lot of issues with Verizon’s towers dropping us to the 1x network. When asked about it, Verizon customer service replied back that they were in the process of adding 4G capabilities to their towers in our area for an expected rollout of June.

    • Anonymous

I wonder if that’s why my phone has been dropping down to 1x alot, here in Tampa

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shawn-Brandel/517714578 Shawn Brandel

Oh man! If that’s an indicator of an imminent 4G rollout, then I’m lovin’ it. I mean, I’m rulin’ it. The air that is.

    No Cali? Really?

    • Anonymous

      No NY either, BS!

    • Anonymous

Maybe it’s cause most of Cali already has 4G deploy.

  • Anonymous

LOL. For all you big city dwellers, I am from Sioux Falls, SD, a 150,000 person market, and we are on the list. Woo hoo!

  • Booboolala2000

Yeah, no Portland? Moving from Pensacola to Portland this June. Agreed Thunderbolt will be nice and unlocked ready to rock 4g when it comes.

  • Anonymous

Pensacola’s on there!! Woo hoo!! Maybe my wife will donate her upgrade to me?! Lol!!

    • Booboolala2000

You can go to Android Central and thank Phil for that. Don’t know why they ain’t showing Kellex any love.
