Download: HTC Thunderbolt Boot Animation for DROID X and 2

Want some of the goodness that was found in the Thunderbolt RUU?  Then how about the boot animation running on your Droid X, Droid 2, or D2 Global?  The file should flash to any of those phones, including the R2-D2 version and will give you the full experience including sound.  While the sound on my DX does come out a little off, the animation is top notch and I can’t wait to actually get a hold of this phone.  Until then though, we’ll do our best to make your current device look and work like one.

Download:  Thunderbolt.zip

Instructions:

1.  Download the file from above to your SD card.
2.  Reboot into recovery using Koush’s Bootstrap app.
3.  Choose “install zip from SD card.”
4.  Then “choose zip from SD card” and find the Thunderbolt.zip , select it and hit “yes.”
5.  Reboot and enjoy!

Big thanks to My Droid World for putting this together!

sound is a bit off on mt DX but its pretty damn cool!

Ok this boot animation is unlike anything I’ve ever used before, not because if the animation and the annoying music, but because unlike ANY OTHER I’ve tried (and I’ve tried alot) you CAN’T make it go away. Even with root explorer, so make sure that you make a backup y’all…

why the hell would you want a boot animation? how often are you guys rebooting your phones? i’ve only rebooted my phone, literally, like 3 times and ive had it for months. just seems kinda dumb to me.

    • MarkP

Kellex just lets us know about anything and everything if you don’t want a new boot animation do not read the post. Do not hate on kellex he is awesome.

My droid x with rubix 1.9.5 has been running like a million dollars and I never see the boot screen or have a real reason to reboot. I do use a automatic reboot program that kicks in at 2am every morning but I never notice when I wake up, runs like a champ.

    • Angelc0719

Im using Rubix 1.9.5 also but cant get to recovery screen. it keeps going from boot logo to rubix cube animation. I cant find a way to make this work. any clue?

Awww man, in a comment the other day I nicely asked if we could get a new live wallpaper from one of these new phones, and I made sure to ask if it could be an apk file for those of us not rooted.

It seems like that was done on purpose, others also said they missed getting new wallpapers and would like them apk file too for those of us not rooted or whatever you have to do with the zip fold because I’ve tried and I have no idea. What gives? How bout some non-rooted love here?

    • Anonymous

but this isn’t a background it’s a boot animation… and in order to modify the boot animation you must modify system folders which can only be done with root access

  • Skyskioc

Kinda digging it. Sound doesn’t bother me at all. I dont boot my phone off and on enough to really care…………..

  • ionX

cant you just go into root explorer and change the filename to bootanimation.zip and replace with the stock file?

    Hey what about D1? :/
This is cool, it would be even better when someone ports it to D1.

  • Androider4Life

This was cool for 3 boots.. now how do i get rid of it. Droid x Fission rom

    • demoltionman427

u shouldve made a backup and so u could go back to the original

Wow, what a lame boot animation. The graphics are fine, looks good and everything. But to have to listen to the lame audio every time my phone force reboots on me from my poorly coded droid2 ROMS? Someone, please find a way to cut out the audio.

    • tommytmt

Download “root explorer” from the market (if you don’t already have it) open it up, scroll down and click on “system” then scroll to “media” and you’ll see an audio file there, to make sure that its the audio file that you want to delete you should click on it and listen to it, once you’re sure that you found the audio file that you want to delete click on the little button on the upper-right hand corner that should say “mount r/o”, then long-press on the audio file and select delete and that annoying boot-up song thinngy shouldn’t be there anymore.

off subject but has anybody seen this, WTF are you kidding me!!! http://an.droid-life.com/2011/01/10/android-2-3-now-available-on-your-iphone-3g/

Saw that, and is very displeased. And disappointed that Android Life would post anything iPhone related even if the post in question is Android related. Still, pretty lame.

    • Steve

Notice how slow and sluggish it ran on the iPhone , iPhone couldnt handle it !!!LOL

Yeah did you see that too. Proof the ICrap can’t handle the Android OS…..

    • tommytmt

Yeah no kidding, you’d think so what with the thunderbolt being an HTC phone like the incredible and all…

  • M1ghtysauc3

    Link isn’t working.

  • http://twitter.com/bbalz Brent Balzer

If you could turn off the obnoxious loud sounds it makes during start up it would be much MUCH better.

Now I need to restore my previous backup. Oh well.

  • http://www.agrstech.com Zephaniah

Kellex, you and I both want this phone bad.

  • Porschephile2k3

    No OG Droid? ;-(

    • Mr Decker704

If you download the file, you can extract the bootanimation.zip in the data/local/ folder and move it to the data/local/ folder of your phone and it should work the same; just without sound. I haven’t tried this but will before the night is over.

      • Anonymous

Let me know how that goes

        • Mr Decker704

It works but it is incredibly choppy. It reminds me of loading the R2-D2 boot animation when that came out, only worse.

Anyone notice P3Droid’s Droid X looks like that one people were claiming was a WE DX?

    • http://twitter.com/trrong Trong Nguyen

He definitely has a special DX. His came with the bootloader unlocked, or something along those lines.

Yeah that was an error. It’s been fixed. :P
