Project Elite ROM for the OG DROID

OG Droid owners rejoice! We’re finally getting around to delivering the good news about Project Elite! We have had a lot of readers and even a couple developers asking us to feature a post about this ROM. Well they weren’t yanking my chain as this ROM is solid as rock and has all the features, scripts, and themes a DROID Freak could ask for.

Here’s a quote I pulled from the the developer (Greg), who goes by the nick actngrezy:

“I wanted to have a ROM with speed, performance, but some of the features that a lot of people enjoy having. I wasn’t going to release this originally until I gave it to some testers and according to the testers it’s very very fast, stable, and it does exactly what it was meant to do which was very pleasing to hear.”

Fast and stable indeed! This would be a good ROM to push all OG DROID 1 owners into the new year.  A new developer, doing some amazing things all in his spare time because he wants to give back to the best community on the planet.

Download Project Elite: HERE

Instructions:

Sprecovery:
1. Download to root of SD Card
2. Rename to update.zip
3. Reboot into recovery
4. Click install
5. Allow install
6. Then install again
7. Reboot

Clockwork Recovery:
1. Place on root SDCard
2. Go to Install from SDCard

As always, I recommend a full backup followed by a good wipe of your system, so you have a nice clean installation. Let me know what you all think! You can find more info, support and all themes available, right here.  Donate!

Project Elite kill my droid. Well I don’t know if it was project elite, but it was the last ROM I had on there before the phone when all wacky. Lluckly I only had it for 10 months, so I unrooted and took it into my local VZ store, and they gave me a new Droid. I was kind of amazed they had one in store. I wonder if the overclocking fried the processor? I really liked the project elite ROM, but probably won’t install it on my new phone.

Is there anyway to have a BlackBar theme with this ROM? I flashed the ROM and it works great but whenever I try to add BlackBar it loops on the boot animation and never loads up.

Installed PE yesterday, now having issues connecting Motorola S10-HD via bluetooth, appears to pair, but refuses connection. No apparent problems w/ Moto T505. Any thoughts

Just installed PE v4.1 last night, so far it is awesome, very fast! The only things I miss from CM 6.1 RC5 is the power control in the notification pulldown and the ability to turn off/on rotation degrees (I personally find 270 annoying though others love it), so hopefully that will be added later.

Here is the link to the latest version http://www.droidforums.net/forum/actngrezy/ 113567-rom-release-project-elite-4-1-source-frg83d-w-gingerbread-parts.html

And here is a nice walkthrough of how to do a proper backup, wipe, and restore before installing this rom using Titanium Backup http://www.droidforums.net/forum/actngrezy/ 113567-rom-release-project-elite-4-

ok, I’m definitely new to this – so I’m hoping someone can explain to me in simple terms what needs to be done. I’m not familiar with all of the technical terms – all I know is I’m tried of my D1 being slower than sludge in Dec. In order to install a ROM – do I need to root my phone first? Or does the ROM root it. (yes I realize what I moron I sound like – just never hacked into a cell phone before, and rather than upgrading my phone for a new one – I figured I’d try and see if something could make it perform a little better.) Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    • Tish

and what is the difference between the clockwork and sprecovery – or do they both need to be run?

    • Dale

      Hi Tish,
I rooted my original Droid and installed this ROM last week. My Quadrant score went from mid 400 to just over 1300. Not bad for just a few dollars in software and donations. It was easy to do but I had to find the root for FRG83D and it would not finish the process. I read on some forum that to root it, you had to remove the SD card which makes no sense at all. But, I took it out and it worked. Then I installed PE 4.1 and it is amazing how much faster the phone is now. I can wait for the dual-core processors. I had all the sites I had to use to accomplish this. If no one else can help you, I will try to find them again. Let me know.
Clockwork and sprecovery are just two metholds of doing the same thing. .

    Rom Manager Premium v3.0.0.2
    ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1

Problem. I’d like to try out other roms (BB and Project Elite) but can’t. I believe I rooted via SuperOneClick Root.

From this configuration I cannot boot into recovery via Rom manager nor holding x and power. When I hold x and power it just cycles through the Moto logo over and over. Using Rom Manager I tried flashing an alternate recovery (SPrecovery). I could boot into this however when trying to install a new Rom it didn’t let me. It said invalid or something.

Any thoughts and how to get other roms on my droid?

    Thanks

Had this happen originally too, I have a note about it on my desk at home so I will post later tonight

  • Mes018

I have tried almost every different rom and have been in love with quite a few, but never enough to post any comments about them. This one is special. It is by far the fastest and most stable rom I have ever tried. I have been running bugless beast 0.6 and thought I would keep that till gingerbread is ready for use as an everyday rom, but with all the positive feedback on PE4 I decided to give it a try. Gingerbread is gonna have to be able to predict the winning lotto numbers to get me to switch now.

The battery life and performance on the new sapphire is better to me. i ran them both at 800mhz and the battery lasted 2 hrs longer when fully charged and used the same thing. ill be sticking with sapphire!

  • R7brzezinski

I installed it, and love it so far… BUT I lost all of my apps and settings on the phone. Does anyone know how I get them back??? Please help!!!

    • Anonymous

Never mind… I found that if you go to Astro and use their app backup, then it will install all of them back on there, too. Just in case somebody else is/was having this dilemma.

  • keylimepie1

I installed it and it just keeps running the boot animation… what did I do wrong???

    • Anonymous

Did you do a full data/cache wipe?

  • Igor

I having problem to update ROM , during installation error msg saying – failed to verify whole-file signature. Installation aborted

so, im rooted with FRG83D. but im unable to reboot into recovery(hold x and power…ect.) all that pops up is a droid under an “!” surrounded by a triangle. so this is quite the conundrum. any words of wisdom?

    • Anonymous

Are you using ROM Manager from the Market?

    • Dale

I had the same problem. I was told to go to Rom Manager and “FlashAlternate Recovery” then go “Flash Clockworkmod Recovery” That took care of the problem.

  • Martyjones82

This rom is sucking my battery dry. I changed from 1100 to 800 mhz…still no luck. Any ideas?

  • RC

Wow, easily the fastest ROM I have tried out on my OG droid. I ran Quadrant with my phone set at 800 MHz and got a score of 1254. Well done guys…..great ROM

  • Chris Nimon

Benn using this for a few days now. Had to reload some info in my apps after wiping data and cache but I really like this with the Blackout theme. Very stable. Only 2 problems so far, Enroute and Fast Web Installer no longer work. Very nice rom, what stock should be like.

  • HeathCliff

Since installing Elite, the voice search doesn’t work. More importantly, ROM Manager doesn’t work properly. I can’t do a restore of previous backups to go back to BB. I can’t boot into recovery. Any suggestion?
