Full Tilt Poker on Android Pulled “Due to Maintenance”

by: | posted 11.28.10 | Apps, News

We reported on Full Tilt Poker’s removal from the Android Market on Friday and have heard back from the poker service with reasoning that we sort of expected.  Apparently the app is in such an early beta stage that it needed to be completely pulled from the market “due to maintenance.”  We received the email below which explains the deal:

Thank you for contacting Full Tilt Poker Support and for your interest in the Rush Poker * Mobile software.

Rush Poker * Mobile is currently unavailable due to maintenance.

While we are delighted at the success of the Rush Poker * Mobile software, due to the software being in beta testing stage, maintenance such as this is often essential.

Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Anyone buying that?  Not sure I can even come up with 5 other apps that went live on the market and simply vanished 3 days later due to “maintenance.”  Usually you feel like your product is pretty solid when you release it to the public, right?

Full Tilt Poker Already Pulled from Market?

by: | posted 11.26.10 | Apps, News

We wrote about the release of Full Tilt Poker onto the Android market just 4 days ago over at Android Life and it appears as if it has already been removed.  You can search for “Full Tilt Poker” in both the market and on App Brain and you will likely come up empty.  We even used the QR code from our post the other day and were welcomed to the screenshot above.

It’s anyone’s guess as to why it would be removed, but the fact that it’s the first “real money” poker app for Android could be a big part of why it is no longer available.  Many users also complained about it being like a Flash game essentially just running in a browser, so maybe the overall experience wasn’t up to Full Tilt standards?  I think we’re going with reason #1.  I should point out that I still have the app installed on my Droid X and it appears to work as it did from day 1.

We’ve reached out to Full Tilt to find out why and will report back as we have something.

Will BlindType be Included in Gingerbread?

by: | posted 11.26.10 | News

Back in August, we all the saw the debut of a new keyboard called BlindType that would look to change the way people type on their smartphones.  An ingenious idea that allowed you to type “blindly”, meaning you could type words or sentences without actually pressing the correct keys each time.  With small on-screen keyboards dominating our lives, BlindType would allow you to type in the area of keys and then it would do its best to predict exactly what it is you were trying to type.  It sort of took the world by storm and just as we were anticipating its release, it was purchased by our friends over at Google.

So over the last couple of weeks, one of our readers brought back up the subject of BlindType, wondering why its website had been taken down with almost no mention of it anywhere.  Our thoughts?  Maybe it will make a Gingerbread appearance.  We’re expecting the new Android 2.3 to be announced within the next couple of weeks and this could be one heck of an addition that most people probably wouldn’t have expected.
