DROID Pro by Motorola Review – Verizon

by: | posted 11.29.10 | News, Phones, Reviews

The “DROID” brand name has already helped propel Android into an elite class, so with the Droid Pro it looks as if a new goal has been accepted.  Motorola and Verizon will now throw their weight around in the world of business smartphones with their first global Android device that hopes to steal a set of consumers they have until now been unable to, the Blackberry crowd.  As a candy bar-styled device with a keyboard and bigger screen than most BB devices offer, will this device do the trick?  Has Moto offered enough incentive for your company to make a change?  Let’s dive in and see what we can figure out.

Download: DROID Pro Boot Animation

The Droid Pro boot animation might be one of the best red eyes that we have seen so far and you can download it below to test on your own device.  The file is optimized from the Pro’s small screen and should work on the DX and D2, but I’m sure a few tweaks will be needed to get you to a desired look for your particular Droid phone.

Download:  bootanimation.zip

If you want to use the stock version above, simply download to your SD card, open Root Explorer and paste the file into /data/local/.

DROID Lockscreen Gestures Loaded into CyanogenMod 6.1 RC5

by: | posted 11.29.10 | DROID, News, Root

CyanogenMod for the original Droid just got even more amazing, this time with lockscreen gestures from mtwebster.  What are lockscreen gestures?  Think of Google Gesture Search, only in a more practical manner on your lockscreen so that you can actually get some use out of i.t  You will now be able to set gestures to open up applications or perform actions and I’ll admit, this is pretty awesome.  Pull up your dialer, text message app, Facebook, or start navigating all from your lock screen with a simple swipe.  Not bad, right?

You can find this latest build in ROM Manager.

To set up gestures, open up Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Input settings>Lockscreen gestures and get rolling!

“DROID Does France” in New DROID 2 Global Ad

by: | posted 11.29.10 | Appearances, News

I’m not exactly sure where this ad  came from, but you can see that the new print ad campaign for the Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro is in full swing.  ”DROID does France” is the latest in a string of global inspired ads hoping to help Android grab the spotlight on the business front from some of the other global smartphones currently on the market.  It would have been nice to see these devices on the small screen, but you can guess that the budget for Droid phones ran out back with the Droid X and the huge campaign attached to it.

Make sure to keep up with the rest of our Droid Appearances!

Dolphin Browser Updates to “Fix UI Compatibility Issues with Android 2.3″?

by: | posted 11.29.10 | Apps, News

Well there is an interesting screenshot to start a Monday morning with.  One of the top browser applications just received an update and claims to have been needed in order to support Gingerbread aka Android 2.3.  Apparently the folks behind Dolphin Browser have had a chance to work a little with the newest version of Android and noticed that their app needed some UI tweaking in order to play nicely.

There were initial rumors of an expected user interface (UI) overhaul with the release of Gingerbread, but all of the current screenshots floating around in the wild don’t seem to show much.  Or maybe we’ve just been teased?  And if app makers like these are getting their hands on 2.3, is it time for Google to release it already?

Anyone have a guess as to what UI issues they ran into?

Android Honeycomb and Gingerbread Test Builds Spotted

by: | posted 11.28.10 | News

AIRBench is an app used to determine how well Adobe AIR runs on your device and one device in particular that seems to be grabbing a lot of attention over the weekend is a Nexus One running both Gingerbread and…Honeycomb?  If the results on the AIRBench website are true, then we clearly see a few different Honeycomb builds (HRI783D, HRI83D, and GRH47B) plus a new Gingerbread build (GRH47B).  While we love seeing Gingerbread builds, I think the real story here is versions of Honeycomb running on a Nexus One.  Supposed to be tablet-specific OS, right?

UPDATE:  FAKE.  They are all fake.  Thanks to our buddies over at Frandroid for pointing it out.
