Monday Night Poll: Motorola Olympus or Etna?

by: | posted 11.29.10 | Polls

Silliest question ever?  Hear me out for a second.  If you read this site at all, then you know we love us some Motorola phones on Verizon’s network and pretty much ignore everything that is AT&T.  However, with news slowly leaking out each week that Motorola is leaning towards launching two separate dual-core Tegra 2 phones on both of these networks (Olympus for AT&T) (Etna for Verizon) with the AT&T version possibly coming first, we want to know which you would consider?  What if the Olympus launches in January as a 3G AT&T device with specs to crush the world and the Etna doesn’t come out until March, but will run on 4G LTE?

Which would you take?

Southwest Airlines App Hits Android Market

by: | posted 11.29.10 | Apps, News

The much anticipated Southwest Airlines app has finally landed on the Android Market and at first glance, looks like a winner.  You can book flights, check-in early, add cars, and even enter your Rapid Rewards info.  And unlike some of the other travel apps out there, it appears as if you can actually purchase flights from within it rather than having to be re-directed to the airline’s browser-based site.

Free.

Motorola’s Entire DROID Lineup Makes Another Print Appearance

by: | posted 11.29.10 | Appearances, News

This whole not wanting to officially recognize the Droid 2 Global thing is starting to get silly.  In this new ad which I just pulled from this month’s Details, Verizon introduces the Droid Pro (our review) to the family as the new global beast, only the D2G is also pictured without a mention  Now, I think we all understand that they made a mistake by launching the original Droid 2 and are trying not to piss off the massive amounts of people that bought it just 3 months ago, but this phone could be a huge hit with its global capabilities and powerful 1.2GHz processor.  Not to mention that the keyboard crushes the OG’s and the OGD2′s…weirdos.

Oh, the Droid X is also featured.  Nice to see the big dog still holding his own after 5 months of life in the wild.

That’s also our third Droid appearance in one day.  Here and here.

AT&T Announces on Facebook that Motorola Olympus will Launch in December or January?

by: | posted 11.29.10 | News

Did AT&T just slip up?  According to their Facebook admin, the Motorola Olympus, which is codenamed the Etna on Verizon, could hit stores in either December or January?  That was the initial thought until that same response was quickly removed.  While this isn’t incredibly huge news as far as a release date goes (2 months is sort of a wide range), it is huge in the fact that they acknowledged the device’s existent.  Until now, it’s only been a rumor seen on sites like ours that have led the charge to uncover this next big Android device from Motorola.

Verizon Launches 24 Days of Seasonal Surprises Promo

by: | posted 11.29.10 | News

Verizon launched a brilliant marketing campaign this morning for the holidays called the “24 Days of Seasonal Surprises” that will force customers to share daily deals with either Twitter or Facebook in order to reveal it.  I know I’ve already seen a dozen tweets from many of you, so this is no secret, but we wanted to make sure you were aware of it as Big Red is sure to feature some Droid phones at some point.  Today’s deal is for Blackberries, so feel free to ignore it.

Check out the deal each day at this site.

Apple Bans Android Magazine from App Store

by: | posted 11.29.10 | News

Nothing like a good Android vs. Apple post to kick off a new week and end another amazing month here at Droid Life, right?  So apparently Apple has banned an app that was submitted to them because the app in question was dedicated entirely to covering Android news.  You aren’t surprised by this are you?  What’s note-worthy though, is the fact that the company behind the app has a half dozen other apps already approved for Apple’s store, but this one just wasn’t acceptable due to its content.

When the developer spoke with Apple about the denial of the app, an executive apparently had this to say…

“You know… your magazine… it’s just about Android…. we can’t have that in our App Store.”

There are already other Android-related apps in their store, so it’s hard to tell why exactly this one wouldn’t make the cut.  OK, who are we kidding.  We get it.  Oh Apple.  You can’t stand the success of Android, will do anything to take cheap shots at it while in public, and appear to want to lock down your world even more while the rest of us open ours.  We win.

+1 for open source and an open market.

DROID 2 Global Also Does Kenya!

by: | posted 11.29.10 | Appearances, News

Just this morning we featured a new “DROID DOES FRANCE” advertisement for our global family members and only hours later, we have another.  This time, the Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro (our review) take on Kenya in a way that your passport can’t.  Funny right?  I wonder what country we’ll see pop up next?

More Droid appearances here!

Cheers Tato!
