Video: Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab Benchmarks

Our coverage of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab takes us into the benchmarking world which I’m sure many of you were dying to see.  This is the first major Android tablet and to see how it performs as compared to some of the other leading Android devices out there is pretty interesting stuff.  Let me just say though, that when you see the numbers in this video, you aren’t going to see it blow away most of the smartphones listed and it shouldn’t.  Remember it has to render all of this information on a 7″ screen.  So with that in mind, prepare to be impressed.

I like how you just throw your DX around, lol. I’m so careful with my gadgets I have to set my D1 on my mousepad so it’s sitting on something soft haha.

Isn’t the Nexus One Result shown based on 2.1? I think you’re running Froyo here, so comparing to a JITless device does not make sense.
My slightly overclocked Froyo N1 gets a 50% better Quadrant score, in the 1500-1750 range

I would think somehow by rooting it and using Google Voice you could get it to work…simply amazing!!

If you apply the OCLF patch that came out for the Galaxy devices the Quadrant score goes over 2000. If I read everything right, the OCLF doesn’t really change the score because of the graphics.

Well this video, you aren’t going to see it blow away most of the smartphones listed and it shouldn’t. Thanks for the information on blog.

Isn't this a Gucci Mane beat in the background?! lol. Niccce!

  • Poena69

    what wifi widget is that?

  • Ryan C

i got and 1136 on my Droid 1. if that means anything in this whole screen size vs CPU argument going on in the comments.

  • Sbowen292

Kellex to your knowledge has anyone figured out how to make regular voice calls with the Verizon version? I would think somehow by rooting it and using Google Voice you could get it to work. I sent a regular SMS from a tab in the Verizon store today to my cell phone and I got it from an actual phone number so I would think it can be done. WHY DOES VERIZON FEEL THE NEED TO CRIPPLE EVERY GOOD PRODUCT THEY SELL?!?!?!?

No one is going to want to pay for a messaging plan for both their cellphone and tab, the Verizon rep told me the tab can't even go under a family unlimited messaging plan as an “extra line”.

Howcome my droid x gets like 8fps on the spinning world yet my.galaxy.tab gets 60fps consistently I can't imagine its that.much faster

The PowerVR SGX 540 blows away the 530 in the DX.

  • rayz336

It's still really impressive, especially since it has more screen space to fill.

  • Philip

Not impressed… At all. By the way, it's not the SIZE of the screen but the RESOLUTION that will affect the benchmark score. So even though the Galaxy has a screen AREA more than 3.5 times larger than for example the G2, it only has about 60% more pixels. So a Quadrant score of just over 1000 is not very impressive to me.

    • HalfMoon

Correct on the pixels, and as I mentioned previously… if you apply the OCLF patch that came out for the Galaxy devices the Quadrant score goes over 2000. If I read everything right, the OCLF doesn't really change the score because of the graphics, it is the I/O portion of the test that gets the boost.

Running the Tab against my X w/o benchmarking before I ran Quadrant, I would have said the Tab was “Much quicker”, then I ran Quadrant and was like “wtf?” even though I know Quardrant sucks and can be mucked with to get the results you want. Applying the OCLF and I see the numbers I expected.

“AnDroidSepTIX: im prepared to be blowed”
    “g00ber: ok im prepared”

  • Eric

    What about Linpack?

  • Stephen D

Benchmarks just like my Fascinate, although the CPU part was definitely faster. The entire thing is just like a big Galaxy S.

    • Droidzilla

The Galaxy Tab is like the Galaxy S?! Shocker!

  • Michael_NM

    Nice music… it's like tablet porn. :P

Speaking of tablets and porn… as Dr. Droid said, prepare to be impressed. ;-)

    • kellex

      Tablet pr0n.

      • http://matt4542.net Matt4542

        Kellex likes his tablet pr0n.

  • HalfMoon

The OCLF brings the Quadrant scores to over 2000, for anyone that cares. Also note that the Mars portion of the benchmark shows no clipping like the Droid X.

  • AnDroidSepTIX

    im prepared to be blowed

    • Chris.Go

      When's your mom get home?

      • AnDroidSepTIX
