Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab Unboxing

We got our hands on Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Tab on Friday and wanted to take you through a quick unboxing of it before we really dive in deeply and help you decide if this should be your big holiday purchase.  After just a few minutes of time with it, we’re definitely pleased, but we have a long way to go before we can give you a thumbs up or down.  And of course, this will be followed up by a full review, some tricks you’ve already started to see and so much more.

Enjoy the unboxing!

  • The applications look great on the screen and it is so much more enjoyable to surf the web and check e-mails on this than on my 4″ Fascinate screen. Thanks for the information on blog. This information made my study easier.

  • Well the Fascinate screen looked huge compared to the OG Droid and now I think both of them look tiny compared to my Galaxy Tab. Anyone who thinks a Droid X is almost the same size is nuts. This is a really excellent read for me.Thanks for posting this informative article.

Tax season is almost here!! You know what that means daddy gets a new toy!!!! lol

  • Carol

I purchased my Samsung Galaxy Tab from Verizon. I just want to tell you guys that I am very appreciative now in the future for your posts on this device. It has already helped me learn more about my new purchase. Thank you, thank you!!!

    • Carol

whoops…meant to say “now AND in the future”. Had jury duty all day and my brain is gone!

  • I'd love to get one of these, but for the price, its stupid not to get the ViewSonic gTablet or the Archos 101, unless you want built in 3G. I'll just tether it to my phone.

  • CIFchamp24

To echo some others. There is just no way I can justify the price.

  • MK17

Biggest phone EVAR!?!?! I wish it could be used as a phone. Then I would want one so bad.

  • Paradisimo

As someone who actually owns one of these I can say it is pretty bad-ass. The applications look great on the screen and it is so much more enjoyable to surf the web and check e-mails on this than on my 4″ Fascinate screen. I used to think that my Fascinate screen looked huge compared to the OG Droid and now I think both of them look tiny compared to my Galaxy Tab. Anyone who thinks a Droid X is almost the same size is nuts.

Hey Kellex where can I get the Icon for this Launcherpro that you have on your DX and this new Galaxy Tab?

  • Garrett

Kellex, what class SD card came with it, makes a pretty big difference to loading speeds, especially photos and vids.

  • Wmsco51

175.00 tops no more. its just greed

    • brando56894

I'd pay around $300-350 for it, they should be the price of (quality) netbooks.

    • You're aware that MSRP on your phone is like $550, and that carriers subsidize the other $350, right? And this has over three times the screen real estate as your phone? And you're expecting it to be CHEAPER than the SUBSIDIZED version of your phone? The materials themselves cost over $200… Yeah, to you even trying to break even is “greed”

  • choosn2change

hmm, ill end up buying 1 even though its way over priced…need a laptop for college. thank you tuition $ =D

    • brando56894

Take it from me, a tablet wont work for taking notes in college you'll hate it. Get a netbook, and to tell you the truth its actually kind of hard to take notes in all your classes on a laptop. I was surprised that when I came to college the majority of people were still using pen and paper.

Think about it from a logical point of view: try writing down a complex biology diagram with pen and paper, then think about doing it with a computer, during the lecture, while the professor keeps going on about stuff. Its not easy, trust me I've been there. I sold my first laptop after 6 months of college cuz I didnt use it at all, I had a desktop.

  • You know what a big hand means…better grip on GalaxyTab.

Wi-fi icon is from Power Control Plus app.

      • Teagadinho

Thanks man. I have been scouring all weekend!

      • Teagadinho

And where did you get the app launcher icon? Again thanks 🙂

  • durangojim

Looks nice, just still trying to figure out where this would fit in terms of actually using it.

    • brando56894

Agreed, I have a netbook which takes over most of my “leisure surfing” but some times its a pain in the ass when youre laying down and wanna type and see the screen at the same time, a tablet solves that problem!

  • rayz336

This is so sweet, if the mobile hotspot app is free on it, I will more than likely be getting this after Christmas.

    • Programmer112

If its a “Verizon” tethering app it will most likely be the regular fee for tethering which i think is like $10/month

      • rayz336

I thought the same thing, but I asked one of the online reps and they said it was free, but I would like further confirmation.

        • Just root it and run wifi tether!

          • rayz336

I might, I already do it on my Evo 4G

  • I still wish this thing had call capabilities i would of switched my X for this. Hopefully a cheaper WiFi only version will be out by xmas.

  • PAKmann2k

Unless they change the price of these drastically, I could not justify having one of these and an X. I see it as a 100$ an inch upgrade.

  • I want one so damn bad I can hardly stand it, but there's no way I can afford it.

    • 1bad69z28

Ditto 600 bucks is pretty steep but I am waiting for the good stuff to come out next year :I will wait for the dust to settle then hopefully maybe the prices will drop.

    • You just said exactly what I was thinking. Verbatim.

    • Chris.Go

It's way to big to be practical. Might as well get a netbook.

      • Anonymous

My friend and I were talking about this and he was thinking about selling his EeePC and getting an android tablet, meanwhile I was thinking about adding a tablet to my tech arsenal lol

I could see where a tablet would replace a netbook, but it depends on what you use the netbook for, if you just use it for surfing the web/checking email/watching various types of media then i think a tablet would be a great replacement. If you’re like me and use your netbook for other things then I wouldn’t see it as a replacement. I can’t see myself taking notes in class on a tablet or writing a java program on one lol

  • 1bad69z28

FIrst Ha, Can't wait for the MOTOPAD lol, what a name so far. 2011 will be known as the year of the Droid 🙂
