Google Makes Gingerbread Official through Video Statue Unveiling

And Gingerbread the name is at least official. ¬†Looks nice sitting next to the Froyo statue doesn’t it?

Release date now?

  • Ryan C

AHHHHHHH!!!! do you realize im still on 2.1 update-1 on my Droid!!!!! the last 2.2 rom i tried (because i wish to stay rooted and not have to set my phone all back up to the way i like it) was nice but it had many battery life issues, so i went back to my rooted 2.1. Idk what im going to do to ever get to a rooted gingerbread!

DroidX owners can expect their botched official update from Motorola by late summer.

    2012

  • yorxs

Did they confirm the version number yet? Is it going to be 3.0 or 2.3?

  • Zaire2005

Nexus one will get it first . The real OG!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/ThornfullessRose Devin Jones

No here will agree with you. Everyone knows the Droid1 is the OG. Not the N1.

  • Ortizchief

my question is i have a droid 2 am I going to get ginger bread update ?

    • http://www.facebook.com/ThornfullessRose Devin Jones

      yes.

  • xelandroid

I am thrilled with Froyo. After suffering through Blackberry updates and flaws, I am finding the Android experience to be simply orgasmic. Froyo official is still settling in on my phone and Gingerbread is on the horizon. WOW. I have no problem waiting until after the new year for Gingerbread.
Believe me long time Droid folks, Google is doing it GOOD. If you only knew what other people were suffering through on other brands of phones.
    ABSOLUTELY LOVING DROID LIFE….WOOO HOOO!

    • http://www.facebook.com/ThornfullessRose Devin Jones

  • Kevin Jellison

Ignorance is bliss! I got my Droid last November, and had no idea about updates, and no knowledge of Droid-Life. One day, my phone prompted me to install a software update…so I did. Then, in May I found DL, which has since turned me into an impatient, stare at my phone looking for updates, voiding my warranty FOOL!!! Thanks a lot Kellex and gang. Here's to six more months of staring at our phones…waiting. Peace.

  • Retrokid223

nice one google… now us samsung users will have gingerbread by august 2011 :P

  • David S

Is that a hot dog bun with whipped cream at 0:41 ?

    • David S

      Silly me..that's an eclair.

  • eddieonofre

frist!!!!!!!!!!! well actually I'm not first but I just wanted to make some noise lol
Google come one bring out those VOIP calling, Video chatting, and that freaking app that convert the user in an robot (like the droid commercial)

  • http://twitter.com/azurikai Austin Witherow

does anyone remember how long the froyo statue was up before the leaks?

    • eddieonofre

something less than a month, if I remember right the Froyo statue was seen some 2 weeks before the google I/O where Froyo shown to the android community and then some 2 more weeks until the Nexus One got it. Form there was a long time until motorola released his version for the Droid 1.

      • Stephen D

I know this is the internet, but you should at least TRY to use a period and spell correctly. “where Froyo shown” “form there” “released his version” I'm sorry, but come one…

        • Michael_NM

Apologies Stephen, but “come one…?” :P

          • Stephen D

            Hmmm…I don't see that :P

          • Stephen D

At least you could understand me though. His sentence was a mess. I had an extra E. No one is perfect…

          • Michael_NM

I certainly appreciate your point, and I was just giving you a hard time. Grammar and seplling.. spllng.. damn it… spelling are pet peeves of mine as well. However, I probably annoy some people with the frequency of my comments. So I'm trying to understand that it's not as important to some folks. :-)

            Off topic: Go Rangers!

          • http://perpetualn00b.tumblr.com quiklives

I agree with you both. I have a terrible time with typos, but I can spell, and I know how sentences are structured. I try not to harp on people, but why is it considered a good thing to sound like English is your 4th language and you've only been studying it for a month? (I'm also aware some commenters are NOT fluent in English, and I feel like it's very different than when someone only speaks English, but they speak it so badly I can't understand them.)

  • Memphis1967

Seems to me like Froyo just came out last week… I hope they're not rushing things. Froyo has some serious updates, flash and JIT being the big ones, I'm content to wait a bit for some more major updates.

    • m3commish

      I couldn't agree more.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=710530141 Tyler Buchanan

Froyo came out in May, the carriers finally got the update to your phone last week. You won't see Gingerbread until after Christmas unless you're rooted and not dealing with a locked bootloader

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4AV25K6ISODU6FBDBHCEYIYHSA Ken

If you think Froyo Just came out last week then you don't have a Nexus one, & it's definitely NOT Rooted ;) & you probably WONT be seeing 2.3 or Gingerbread anytime soon!
      Although I'll admit that FRG83 isn't as a stable as I thought FRF50 to be…

  • Dustin

Sometimes I get really baked and dream about cookies that big!

  • Jgal723

    looks like a Nexus one @ 0:42.

    • jgabler5025

The cookie, no. But there is a nexus one statue at the GooglePlex last time I visited.

  • villian1998

It would look better on my phone OVER Froyo

  • JubbaTheHutt

Must be nice to be able to wear Crocs to the office…not that I would ever be caught dead in them but…*whistles*

    • Lakerzz

      Hahaha…LMFAO!!!!

  • Mth2134

I faintly hear taps playing for my OG….

    • Chris Nimon

LOL. “With as much dignity as he could muster, the Old Man gathered up the sad remains of his shattered Major Award. Later that night, alone in the backyard, he buried it next to the garage. Now I could never be sure, but I thought that I heard the sound of “Taps” being played. Gently.”

      • Mth2134

        +1

  • The350zWolf

And on that sweet note I wish you all a great weekend…
    Peace

    • Michael_NM

Good weekend to you too good sir!

Know Gingerbread release date, Know Peace
No Gingerbread release date, No Peace

  • Carpatus

How long did it take them to release Froyo after the statue was put up?

    • Crazydog

The Froyo statue was put up in mid-may (around the 13th), the SDK was released on the May 20th, and the Nexus One got a build of Froyo OTA on May 22nd.

      • Carpatus

Well, I can only hope that the same happens with Gingerbread. Doubt it, but, I'm not giving up hope yet.

      • Michael_NM

        You're a crazy smart dog! :)

  • RealGame22

When this video first started…it kinda reminded me of “The Last Exorcism”……lol

  • http://twitter.com/mfg68 Matt Galo

Woo! Now all they have to do is announce the Nexus Two for all carriers. I would faint.

    • Stephen D

Now THAT would be awesome. Imagine how successful the Nexus One would have been had they done that?

      • eddieonofre

agree do you think that the Samsung Android Experience phone will be for all carriers??
But I am pretty sure that if that happens Verizon will find ways to brand it something like Droid Capacitive

        • Stephen D

          Um…what?

          • http://twitter.com/zaiger Brian

I think he is thinking of the Galaxy, I could be wrong though.

  • Michael_NM

Dr. Droid said, “Release date now?”

    I say, “Release now!”

    • eddieonofre

men “soon” could mean anything like for motorola “soon” meant something about 3 months.

      • Anonymous

Precisely my point, hence the sad face. “Soon” in VZ/Moto speak means, “We don’t have a clue when it’s coming, but you can be sure it will be longer than you hoped.” I won’t be surprised at all if they say it’s coming “late spring” 2011, and then actually push the OTA on June 20th. I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve come to despise the word “soon” when it used by VZ/Moto…

        • eddieonofre

That is the main reason I rooted my Droid so from now on if there is Gingerbread goes live the developer community will make a Rom out of it and I will be enjoying Gingerbread…..

          Hey Y’all developers ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dmota25

    Yeas!!!
