Gingerbread Will Actually Be Android 2.3?

The snippet above was capped from Google’s “Issues” database for Android and shows someone with an “@google.com” email address responding to a comment and possibly mentioning the numbering of the next version.  How does Android 2.3 sound for Gingerbread?  Makes sense right?  

We have heard months worth of speculation that the next version could be 3.0, but after leaks came out earlier in the week showing a not-incredibly-changed UI, we were really just expecting something closer to 2.5 instead.  We’ll take version 2.3 for now though and expect Honeycomb to maybe make the big jump to 3.0.  After all, the tablet UI was supposed to be the new goodness, right?
