At this point, it’s starting to look the the Droid X is going to land on every popular show this fall and we’re not all that surprised after seeing ads like the one above all over NBC’s Community site. Always nice to see one of our Droid family members on TV though, right?

Android Market Adding Paid App Support to Additional Countries Over “Next Few Weeks”
The Android team is reportedly getting ready to provide paid app support to additional countries who may have previously had none. In an email forwarded to us that is being sent to developers, the Android team says they expect the rollout to take place over the next “few weeks”, but are not ready to release the names of the countries…
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding paid apps support for additional countries. If you have selected to publish your paid apps to all locations and intend to support all new locations as we expand the number of supported countries for paid apps, you don’t have to do anything. If you have selected to publish your paid apps to all locations but intend to only target the currently supported 14 countries, please update your location selections to target these specific countries.
Please look for follow-up emails when we introduce paid apps support for specific additional countries in the coming weeks. At that time, you’ll have the option to target these specific countries.
Growth is good right? Does this mean Fede will finally be able to put LauncherPro Plus in the market?
Software Upgrade Required to Fix DROID X Text Message Issue
There is a known text messaging issue with the Droid X running official Android 2.2 that Motorola is apparently aware of and already working on. According to their forums manager, their dev team has realized that an actual software upgrade is the only way to fix the problem.
Most right now are reporting that the issue has to do with text messages appearing out of order, but from my early experience with the leaked 2.2 and after talking with one of our readers, the problem is actually in the date and time settings of the phone. Messages aren’t appearing out of order, but are showing with a 4 hour time difference to when you actually received the message.
What’s funny about this issue, is I ran into so long ago and was unable to find a fix. At the time, I had a pretty good idea that the OS was to blame, but figured it was a big enough problem that it would have been ironed out in the official version. Apparently I was wrong and should have made a bigger deal out of it.
It should be noted that the problem is found in the native text app, Chomp and Handcent so there is really no work around at this time.
Anyone experiencing this issue?

Custom Theme Friday: RZ Alien Darkness for BB V0.5

Another great week down! We had Kellex at OpenFeint in my neck of the woods (That was fun.). We got 4G on the Droid Incredible? And I’m changing the name of the IRC to CCROM-Life? More about that after the break…or not.
So since the release of Bugless Beast Version Zero Point Five, I have been looking for a theme to throw on top and I think I have found someone who knows what I’m shooting for. Widgets, whole APK’s, Pulldown Menu, and even your Mommas Pajamas are themed here! Yes, please!
I present RZ Alien Darkness by ‘RaidZero’. Enjoy…

Grab it now in the market!
Cheers @stick2e!
Motorola Milestone Available at Alltel Stores Now
Remember when we said that the Motorola Milestone would be hitting Alltel Wireless stores on the 23rd? Well, it did. As an Alltel customer, you can pick it up today and enjoy one of the last stock “Google Experience” phones ever. It’s really no different than the Droid on Verizon, but it’s a hell of a lot better than the Hero which is your only other option on this carrier.
Google: Requiring Stock Android Violates “Principle of Open Source”
Ahhh manufacturers and their custom Android skins. If only we could get rid of them forever, life would be so fantastic, wouldn’t it? For those hoping that a stance would be made by Google concerning this topic, be prepared for a let down. In a sit down with some press members at Google Zeitgest, Google CEO Eric Schmidt squashed any chance that they would mandate HTC or Motorola to leave off their Sense and Blur skins.
When asked why Google can’t ask (or require) manufacturers to give customers an option to either have a full “Google Experience” or install a custom skin like HTC’s Sense, Schmidt had this to say…
I love that the fact that the two of you [Mike Arrington and Danny Sullivan] love the Nexus One, thank you very much.
But the fact of the matter is that if we were to put those type of restrictions on an open source product, we’d be violating the principle of open source.
See the interview in action below…
It’s a fascinating topic and one that could go on for hours if you had the right people in a room together. In fact, over the last couple of days that I spent with some fellow Android bloggers down in San Francisco, we discussed topics like this. I think we’re all in favor of providing customers with options just like they see when purchasing a new PC, but Google appears to not be feeling that vibe, yet.
Thoughts?
