Latin American Milestone Froyo Now “Under Evaluation”?

by: | posted 08.27.10 | News

Maybe it was just a type-o?  Two days ago, the Motorola software upgrade timeline clearly showed that the Latin American and Mexican Milestone would not be receiving Android 2.2 and that apparently started a war.  After 48 hours of anger and #motofail hashtags, Moto has now changed their stance on the possibility of a Froyo update.  Via Twitter…

To realize the call made by you guys decided to reassess the possibility of upgrading the Milestone w / Android 2.2

Now that’s some Android community power right there.  +1 to all of us!

DROID Pro is just DROID 2 World Edition?

by: | posted 08.26.10 | News

Normally I’m not one to do the “I knew this already!” stuff, but we were told that the Droid Pro would simply be the Droid 2 world edition almost a month ago from 2 separate and non-related sources; we were just put on strict orders not to actually say it publicly.  Then today some additional details have come to the forefront, so it’s time to talk about it!

If you want proof, check out this little hint I dropped on July 30th in a running Droid Pro thread over at Droid Forums

Not to cause a stir, but I’ve heard from 2 separate sources that this device is as far from what is in the original post as could possibly be.

Anyways, enough on us, let’s talk about the Droid Pro/D2 World Edition.  Engadget just received this screenshot which looks similar to one BGR had a few weeks back only with more detail…

Manually Update to FRG22D Froyo for DROID Now!

by: | posted 08.26.10 | News

Don’t feel like waiting until you Droid is prompted to update to FRG22D?  Then manually update now and enjoy full Flash 10.1 in all its glory well before the rest of the world.  The guys at Android Forums have discovered the file and we’re bringing it to you live right now!

*NOTE 1* - UNIVERSAL ANDROOT DID NOT ROOT THIS BUILD.  IF YOU WANT TO ROOT, I SUGGEST FOLLOWING OUR INSTRUCTIONS INSTEAD OF UPDATING TO THIS.

*NOTE 2* - There is a chance you will lose root should you update to this from FRG01B.  While the update file is only 1.6MB, it sounds like it is still capable of breaking root.  Avoid for now if you wish to stay rooted.

Instructions to manually install the FRG22D Froyo Update on your Motorola Droid:

*THIS IS ONLY FOR NON-ROOTED STOCK 2.2 USERS RUNNING FRG01B.

1.  Download this file:   update.zip or DIRECT FROM GOOGLE LINK
2.  Place file on the root of your sdcard (not in any folder).

Make sure it is named UPDATE.ZIP! The Google link will need to be renamed.

3.  Turn your phone off.
4.  Boot into recovery (Hold Power + X).
5.  Wait for a triangle with exclamation point to appear and release Power and X.
6.  Hit the volume up and camera button (half-way down) at the same time.
7.  Using the D-Pad select “apply update.zip” and press in the gold button on the D-Pad.
8.  Your phone will now run the update.
9.  When it finishes, use the D-Pad to select reboot phone.
10.  Your phone will reboot with Android 2.2, build FRG22D.

Enjoy!

Flash was there for us immediately!  Let us know if you run into any issues.

How to: Root Android 2.2 for the Motorola DROID

by: | posted 08.26.10 | DROID, Root, Tips

Now that the Motorola Droid has received Android 2.2, we get asked quite often when we’ll update our guide to rooting especially from those that were waiting on Froyo before taking the dive.  Fortunately for everyone, the process takes a simple click rather than that long drawn out RSD Lite process we had to run through during the 2.1 days.

This post should act as your one-stop guide to rooting your Droid running Android 2.2, flashing a custom recovery image, and creating your first nandroid backup to get you on your way to custom ROMs and so much more.

If you are looking for reasons as to why someone would root their phone, check out this poll we ran a while back.  The comments serve as one of the best compilations of reasoning you’ll find anywhere.

Enjoy!

Update:  This rooting method works on Android 2.2 build FRG01B.  It does not currently work on FRG22D.  If you would like root access, I suggest rooting instead of installing the new FRG22D update.

Breaking: DROID Incredible Froyo Update Starts Tomorrow

by: | posted 08.26.10 | Breaking, News

To all non-rooted users, you may want to hold off from updating your Droid Incredible just yet!  The Froyo update appears to be hitting DI devices tomorrow.  Coming packed full of all the Android 2.2 goodness you can expect including Flash 10.1, the “Dinc” will officially be caught up.

Rollout of FRG22D to Enable Flash 10.1 for DROID Starts Today

by: | posted 08.26.10 | News

Verizon started the testing rollout of FRG22D which allows Droid 1 users to download Flash 10.1 from the market on the 24th and are now ready to confirm that it’ll be hitting all D1′s over the next few days.  From Big Red…

Verizon Wireless has begun pushing an update  today to the DROID by Motorola (introduced November 2009) that will  allow customers to download Adobe Flash 10.1 via Android Market. Flash Player 10.1 provides access to millions of sites  with rich content including animations, casual games, videos, rich internet  applications, audio and much more.

Start checking your “System Updates” screen religiously!  Or remain patient…if that’s possible.

How to: Update your DROID Incredible to Leaked Android 2.2

by: | posted 08.26.10 | Incredible, Tips

We’ve had a chance to flash the new (and what appears to be official) Android 2.2 for the Droid Incredible and wanted to drop the instructions on you.

*Warning* – For those that aren’t rooted, the steps are pretty simple (read Note 2), just understand that this will wipe your phone completely clean meaning all of your apps will be gone and you’ll need to set up your accounts/settings again.    Also be warned that if this is not the official update, it could be extremely difficult to back out of and OTA updates could pass you by.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.  You accept all risk involved.

UPDATE:  FOR NON-ROOTED USERS, THE UPDATE IS COMING TOMORROW OTA.  DO NOT UPDATE TO THIS.

Instructions: (pulled from XDA and edited)

*Note 1* – If you are rooted, make sure you have flashed the unrevoked-forever file!

*Note 2* - If you just want to update to 2.2 without root, just plug your phone in and run the RUU which you can download from here.

1. Download this file and place on your SD card.
2. Boot into hboot (Hold optical button + power) and select Bootloader.
3. PB31IMG.ZIP will start to install.

**Step 3 note** Your phone might reboot to either hboot or recovery after trying to install PB31IMG.ZIP, just get back to hboot and install again, when you get back to hboot you should notice its version .92 and S-OFF is still on, just install PB31IMG.ZIP again and all should be good. I believe at one point after it updates hboot it has to reboot to finish the install, so this might be what you are seeing.

4. Reboot, setup your google account, etc.
5. Put the files attached below on the root of your SD-Card.

***Files are PB31IMG.ZIP (this is not the update, either delete the other PB31IMG.ZIP or rename it to PB31IMG.BAK, this is just clockwork recovery in the PB31IMG.ZIP) , payload-update.zip, and su-2.3.2.1-ef-signed.zip***

6. Power down phone and boot to hboot (hold optical button + power).
7. Install PB31IMG.ZIP in hboot, this installs clockwork recovery.
8. Once that is done installing, press volume down, so your phone doesnt reboot, then select recovery.
9. Once you boot into recovery choose install zip from SD-Card, then choose payload-update.zip.
10. After that installs, choose to install another zip and install su-2.3.2.1-ef-signed.zip.
11. Reboot and enjoy your rooted phone running the new Froyo.

Have fun kiddies.
