Download: Leaked DROID X Android 2.2 for ALL Users

A leaked version of Android 2.2 for the Droid X has popped up this morning and is available for all users to try.  It’s a simple “update.zip method” and can be done in just a couple of minutes.  This is our first taste of the Froyo for the DX and we’re hoping it fixes the dozens of bugs that have frustrated so many of us.

I will say right up front that this is more than likely not the final version and if you update to this version, getting back to stock 2.1 is not going to be easy.

________________________________________

Download:  MOTOROLA IS REMOVING DOWNLOAD LINKS FOR THIS 2.2 UPDATE LIKE CRAZY. AT THIS TIME I’M GOING TO HOLD OFF FROMM UPLOADING THE FILE.  SORRY ALL.

*Warning* – Just a reminder that rooting VOIDS your warranty and could potentially do permanent damage to your device.  This is not a recommended practice and you do so at your own risk.

Instructions…

*Note 1* – This should work for rooted users as well.  Just make sure you haven’t themed or removed any bloatware or it will not work.

*Note 2* – If you get an installation aborted error mentioning the “logwrapper” we are looking into the issue and will update you as soon as we know a fix.

Update 1:  LOGWRAPPER FIX INSTRUCTIONS HERE.

*Note 3* – To keep root you must move your “su” file to your xbin folder and out of your bin folder.  You can check by going into /system/bin.

1.  Download the update.zip from above and place it on the root of your SD card.  (Not in a folder)
2.  Turn your phone off.
3.  Boot into recovery but holding the Home key and Power at the same time.
4.  When a triangle with exclamation mark appears, release buttons and press the Search key once.
5.  Using the  volume up/down switch, scroll down to “apply sdcard:update.zip.”
6.  Once highlighted, press the camera button to apply the update.zip.
7.  Your phone will work some magic and if finished correctly will say “Successful.”
8.  Scroll back up to “Reboot system.”
9.  You phone should now reboot running Android 2.2.

Enjoy the Froyo!

Again, this is a leaked version, so we have no idea if it is final or not.  If you update to this, it is not an easy process to get it back to stock 2.1 and requires RSD Lite and an SBF file which I know you all love so much.  Do so at your own risk!

DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!! THIS WILL RUIN ANDROID MARKET AND YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD MOST APPLICATIONS!!! At first I thought there was something wrong with my phone so I wiped it and now I still have froyo but lost all my apps and am unable to redownload. This is due to froyo for droid x being unofficial still and most apps have a lock for phones with unofficial updates!

    • Brandon

umm I've downloaded several apps since installing and its been just fine

  • Ncgeorge

installed 2.2 update successfully but flash doesnt seem to work. I get redirected to the adobe site, which tells me i have to wait until it is released for my device. system shows 2.2. How can i get flash? :(

  • Daileyaustin96

    android market is not working

  • Tavist7870

The instructions did not include the step for moving su from bin to xbin. Now my phone thinks it's rooted but it really isn't. Any ideas how i can now get su to xbin. tried easyroot forceroot and the original manual root but it failed because it can no longer find sqlite_stmt_journals. Help!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1158799573 Dave Eric Smith

Dude… I'm right there with you! I hope someone can respond with a workable method. :(

      • Tavist7870

I used RSDLite and reloaded the SBF. Once I was back to 2.1 I re-rooted moved su and updated to 2.2 and I'm still rooted. It was pretty easy. If you do it, you'l more than likely to clear your data cache as well.I didn't at first and after flashing the SB my phone was tuck in a boot loop. To get out of the loop I cleared my data. It booted fine then. I don't know if there is another way. I was fine with this. Oh everything on your sd card is untouched.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aran-Deibel/597564550 Aran Deibel

I couldn't even get RSD Lite to load the SBF. I'm guessing, and REALLY hoping they come out with a fix for this soon. Would hate to be stuck on 2.2 without ROOT access

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=2214771 Dan Fitzgerald

getting back to stock 2.1 isn't very hard…i've been modifying the framework-res.apk on 2.2 and bricked the X. I tried to do the sbf and it didn't work. I fixed my phone by running recovery and doing the wipe data/cache and then doing the sbf which easily got me back to 2.1 stock. Then I re-rooted and installed 2.2. Piece of cake!

  • Christopherclaybern

Just ran into one issue. Marketplace is now not working on the Droid X with the Froyo update. I am able to get some apps. Maybe the most 100 but that is it. Anyone know what this is about? It was working fine earlier today. As of now, it has that problem. Also, appears marketplace has changed its appearance as well. Instead of downloads being at top of app, it is now in the middle.

    • Piya783

Because its a leak.. most apps wont work with this unofficial version. Basically your market is screwed until the official one comes out.

      • Mrpicolas

no market was down do your homework man sorry but wrong

  • Brchell66

how the hell do i get rid of it????!!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=505682534 Leon J Kennedy

    • http://twitter.com/JerGru Jeremy Gruszewski

I'm having this same issue. Any answers?

  • Portertm

Love the update, but I noticed that the launch bar does not look like the pics I have seen of other froyo devices. Any thoughts?

    • http://twitter.com/whiteblazer00 Dave Weilacher

i'm pretty sure it's becuz this is a Froyo rom with MotoBlur

      • Portertm

Looks like it's back to Launcher Pro for me then.

  • Tavist7870

Lost root. I do like it though. One touch roots do not work. They still think I'm rooted. Is anyone who updated still rooted? My guess is no.

    • http://subzerosoldiers.com Matt

I'm still rooted after updating. Did you move the SU file from bin to xbin before updating? Either way, check out unstableapps.com and pick up the newest release of easyroot. It gives you the ability to force a re-root.

      • Tavist7870

Idid not move su to chin. Must have missed that step. I tried the force reroot an no luck. I may try original root method.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1158799573 Dave Eric Smith

Sure wish I had seen that step yesterday afternoon when I updated. :(

        • http://subzerosoldiers.com Matt

          Hey Dave,

You might want to try heading over to unstableapps.com and purchasing Easy Root from them. I’ve successfully used it to root a non rooted 2.2 droid 1, as well as the latest version has an option to re-root your phone, essentially forcing it to update/add/replace any updates SU files.

The latest update actually asks everyone who uses it to force a re-root. Definitely something to look into. I can’t verify anything since I maintained root, but I’d love to hear if it works for someone.

          • Anonymous

Hey Matt, thanks for the advice. I really wish I could try it but their domain has been suspended since yesterday and I can’t find anywhere else to get the app.
            I’ll keep checking though!

          • Tavist7870

The latest version easyroot did not work. I had to load SBF, reroot and reapply update.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_W3EZ6AIP7H556GK7JOZ7XF4HW4 Alex

hey just wondering, can i try installing this on my droid 1? i already got 2.2 on it but i want to try to see if this version would work just to try it out, my phone is rooted and has plenty of nandroid backups of my different roms (i have like two different ones for CM6 RC3, one of RC2, and my stock 2.2 just so that i can switch between them if i ever miss them, lol)

    • antintyty

that sounds like a stupid idea, just sayin'…i would NOT do that!!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_W3EZ6AIP7H556GK7JOZ7XF4HW4 Alex

haha, thats why i asked first, i was thinkin that but wanted to see what the public would say. Thanks! haha

  • Droidmanx

*****DO NOT DOWNLOAD***** I AM A VERY CAUTIOUS USER AND EVEN I GOT DUPED INTO THIS UPDATE. THE REASON I UGRADED USING THIS METHOD WAS OF COURSE TO GET A PREVIEW OF FROYO WHAT I DIDNT TAKE INTO CONCIDERATION IS THAT BARNACLE AND WIFI TETHER WOULD NOT WORK WITH UNIVERSAL ANDROOT WHICH YOU HAD TO INSTALL BEOFE UPGRADING TO HAVE ACCESS TO ROOT WITH FROYO. BUT BARNACLE AND WIFI TETHER ARE NOT GRANTED SUPER USER PERMISSION. THE FROYO UPDATE DOES WORK PERFECTLY BUT IF YOU ARE LIKE ME AND YOU PURPOSELY ROOTED YOUR PHONE TO HAVE *WIFI TETHERING* THIS METHOD IS NOT FOR YOU AND MORE IMPORTANTLY…..HOW THE **** DO YOU GET BACK TO STOCK 2.1????? (HENCE KELLEX'S WARNINGS)

    • Mrpicolas

Rsd lite 4.7 and the. 604 sbf

    • antintyty

Is your keyboard broken? We speak to each other here… not yell.

  • http://twitter.com/whiteblazer00 Dave Weilacher

i know almost everyone was saying that their locations weren't working with this update. I'm not sure if it just worked for me or not but, after flashing the update i realized i lost root, so i'm still trying to get back to 2.1. (not going so good with RSD lite) but in the process i did a data wipe/factory reset afterwards i kept froyo and the my location was working again with google.com and apps. just putting it out there…

  • imnot2sure

  • Brchell66

just did it guys, i am a mid-level user in between noob and advanced and it was easy for me the steps work terrific, the only thing is the reboot after the installation takes a long time so expect that. will post back with a lot of other stuff including benchmarks later

I was so excited to see this today and just tried it on my DX, but alas – fail. :(
I mucked around in the system last week and removed some bloatware and now it's complaining about it.
    What to do…

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1158799573 Dave Eric Smith

For anyone that cares, this website helped me get back all of my bloatware!

      • Chriss

I was just about to post this link…I had removed some of the extra software, and then tried to reinstall it from the android market. Even after I did this, the update wouldnt work. You MUST use the .apk files from that link, or else it will NOT work.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Rodgers/1613392504 Mike Rodgers

Just booted into recovery after pulling battery… I have 2.2 but no root. Still have the SuperUser icon but no root access. Basically what I did was install the Universal Androot app and rooted then booted into recovery and installed the update. Not sure what I might have done wrong but that's where I'm at now…. get to spend the rest of the day istalling apps again! lol :(

  • Arkaneevol

How can I get flash to work once on 2.2 I,did, the,”about:debug” to fool around wit java, settings but still wont work y?

Anyone boot after installing the update and have their phone stuck at the Moto logo? please tell me I wont have to do the SBF fix?

  • Bryan646

I have to say this is awesome, everything works, love the new gallery, and camera, and Flash is just to cool, bluetooth voice command is a little wonky, but it works, and the Droid X is just plain fast !!!!!!

  • Sdny8

Anyone know how to reinstall my crappy bloatware

  • Jeff

Just updated my Droid X (nonrooted) and it runs smoothly! Glad to finally have Adobe Flash 10.1! I will say that this release does have some tiny issues they need to fix, but overall, a good step forward!

  • http://www.facebook.com/William.R.Chisholm Bill Chisholm

I recommend making a nandroid backup first, just in-case. It saved me from having an unroot-able phone running Froyo as I accidentally unrooted it before the update.

  • droidking

i did the update and lost my wifi capabilities to hook up to my home network is there a fix for this ?

    • Jeff

      Mine works!

  • Rjoudrey

Is there any rhyme or reason to the organization of these threads, very hard to follow and pinpoint updates.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1276930574 Rikayah Johnson

Wow it worked thank you so much for this site!!!!

  • Dpensa15

How do you put the update on the root in your sd card?

  • YT

LOST MY ROOT!!! I can not run the old root aps i had running. I even flashed, and tried to reroot with universal androot, doesnt work!!!
    Any solution?

    • Speakertx

Some are losing root, and some are not – trying to find a pattern – How did you root initially? EasyRoot? Manually? some other method?

    • http://www.facebook.com/William.R.Chisholm Bill Chisholm

I went through the same problem myself an was able to solve after some trial and error runs. You need to have the updated RSD Lite 4.7 before you can apply the downgrade — it doesn't show an update from Motorola available but just Google “RSD Lite 4.7″ to find it and “VRZ_MB810_1.13.6.2_1FF_01.sbf” for the image of 2.1

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=505682534 Leon J Kennedy

Where did you get RSD Lite 4.7? Everywhere I tried it is gone!

  • Eric Anspach

    Running 2.2 on Droid X…

    What works so far:
    -Voice calls
    -Maps with GPS lock
    -Wifi
-AVI files now play through built in gallery and output through HDMI… friggin awesome!
    -Flash videos
    -Apps to SD
    -3G
    -Android Market

    What doesn't:
    -Flashlight apps using LED lights

Like everyone else, I'm wondering if this will still leave us eligible to receive Verizon's official 2.2 update.

  • Austin

found YET another change.. long pressing the search button brings up voice actions which are PREINSTALLED awesome

  • surf
