Motorola DROID X is Running MotoBlur

Not exactly sure who made this into or why it is an issue, but the Droid X is definitely running a version of MotoBlur.  If you go into your Motorola Services Info screen by dialing *#*#4636#*#* on your dial pad, it’s as plain as day.  Well unless “Blur_Version” doesn’t actually mean Blur.

Just wanted to share and clear that all up.  Enjoy your day.

Cheers Brad!

All it takes is a few minutes to download and flash to the Motorola Droid X.It can run on a smartphone of course, and it appears that the tablet specific Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS boot animation found on the Motorola Xoom tablet has been ported to the Motorola Droid X.

I liked the honey comb feature in this droid. It was a pain to create an overlay every time a new OS drops. All that remains is for your to check out the video footage, and if you happen to own a Motorola Droid X and give it a go,

Came to knew that–When asked about it, Sanjay Jha, Motorola CEO, confirmed that MotoBlur is running on Droid X, but it has been hidden from the user. …

I personally have no experience with MotoBlur other than playing with it at cell phone stores. I mostly put this up to to help keep people informed since there seem to be so many rumors about it flying around.

It is a fact that Sense and Blur delay timely updates since the vendor has to do a lot of extra coding. That said, we didn’t exactly get 2.1 in a timely manner even with stock Android on the Droid.

I don’t really “know”. But I’m pretty sure about this. None of the previous
versions (1.6, 2.1) were compatible with the next and required tweaks.

And Google has stated, and showed by their actions, that they do not care at
all if the newer Android version breaks the compatibility of third party
    applications.

Well The Droid 1 Froyo update might be taking so long is Motorola will cram Blur down our throats with the OTA update?

i just read the Terms of Service and Privacy Statement for MotoBlur (im that bored), basically, yelling all of your deepest secrets through a megaphone into a crowd is more private, they can use ALL of your personal information(text messages, emails, photos) freely as if it was their own(their privacy statement says they WILL give your information to business partners), give it to the government and any other third parties they wish, and if they decide to sue you, you have to pay their legal fees. basically never do or say ANYTHING that can remotely get you in any legal trouble, no matter how private you think your conversation is. again, a megaphone would be a more private (and cheaper) way of communication.

I'm glad you are such an avid reader of my posts. If you would like to further your education I invite you to read further, and I'm sure you'll find that with the exception of some wayward I*hone fanboys my condescension has been directly solely towards you and your obnoxious attitude towards anyone critical of the X and it's encrypted bootloader. I get it… you don't care, but many others do and they will continue to comment on the issue until the bootloader is freed.

You are correct, being articulate is more than just stringing big words together. It also requires that your arguments be rooted in sound reasoning. On the issue of the X's bootloader, your position is that we should all just shut up and stop whining because:
    1. We are all simply irrational and can not be pleased
    2. We are all just jealous and secretly want to be like you and own an X

If you think that is the proper way to respond to individuals with valid concerns over Moto's recent efforts to further restrict users from full access to the hardware which they bought and paid for, then you are truly childish and I don't see what can possibly be gained through any further discussion. You are welcome to reply to any of my future comments but you will be promptly ignored, not because of your stunning whit but because I am tired of conversing with an @$$.

Is anyone else concerned that the reason the Droid 1 Froyo update might be taking so long is Motorola will cram Blur down our throats with the OTA update?

  • L_P

I wish it were available with the stock Google Experience as well. I wonder how many more sales there would be…

    • FroyoShark

There would be less sales because motoblur sucks and slows your phone down.

Yes, it's true. You can also see in a less cryptic fashion. On the device from the home screen:
Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> Legal Information -> Open source licenses

Look for com.motorola.blur.library.*. It's clear as day that at least some blur libraries are being used.

I have a feeling that this version of blur (no moto log in, less intrusive) was created to make the OS update process more streamline. I'm sure it was a pain to create an overlay every time a new OS drops. I feel bad for the HTC sense folks who wait three times as long to get an update for this exact reason. This was everyone's main concern with blur…correct? Well, if its just a few widgets maybe the fine people over at Motorola have simplified blur for ease of upgrade…or maybe they just listened to us. I hope stock gingerbread blows the doors off other 3rd party UI's, and maybe then handset manufacturers can concentrate on deferential their products on hardware instead of muddeling up the software.

    • Michael_NM

+1 They could also spend more time working on updates.

  • Rizzidy

Besides the launcher and a few widgets, what else is there to MotoBlur?

    • chris

An awful customized contacts system. I hate that you can't click on a contact portrait and get the quick links like you do in stock 2.1. It also makes it impossible to sync contacts from other providers like Last.FM, and the official facebook and twitter applications which honestly run circles around the garbage that motorola attempted to implement. I want stock android on this phone so badly. Blur sucks.

      • Rizzidy

        Thanks for the info.

        • ReebyWantsYoMom

I love the news widget it gives me rss feeds from any droid site i like and saves alot of time.
Also you can add contacts to text from a icon that takes you to your contact list instead of typing in the first few letters. I haven't used it much because I'm used to typing it but people coming from a phone other than droid might like that.

Blur = Motorola login. It's not Blur. They just reused files and nomenclature. It's a new, untitled, Motorola overlay that shares some widgets with Blur.

…and this is my new pet. Not sure what to call it, but it looks kinda like a duck, and sounds like a duck. I wonder what to call it.

I spoke with a Motorola rep when I got my Droid X, and he said it's Blur. Just not the “in your face” Blur that others are used to.

          It's Blur.

    • iknowthingz

Do you work for Android Central? They don't seem to get it either. IT IS Moto Blur, a scaled down version.

      • EC8CH

not just scaled down… but locked down as well

        • Tony

          Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

          • EC8CH

Nice to see you've realized that hypotheticals are above your reach and you've adopted a debating style more appropriate to your maturity level.

          • Tony

No I just replied to a snide comment with a snide comment.

All you ever seem to do is whine about how the bootloader is locked. You don't care about the reason, just the fact that it is indeed locked. You need to get over it. If you're so happy with your Droid 1 perhaps you should just stick to it.

Or go and do what you really want to do and go buy a Droid X. Or is it you don't have an upgrade coming? Or can't afford a new phone? And all this anger is just stemming from the fact that you can't have one

          • EC8CH

            No…
            I made a comment.
You made the noise a child makes when they want attention but aren't intelligent enough to communicate like an adult.

It is becoming obvious that you're not quite articulate enough to be getting into arguments with me. I think it would be best if you just quit trolling my comments.

          • tony

Hahahahaha. Trolling the comments of a troll who's trolling every post having to do with the droid X. Like the pot calling the kettle black. No?

And I was trying to infer that in reading your posts all I mostly get out of them is that “wahhh” sound that you so quaintly said is akin to a child needing attention but not being able to intelligently convey the need. Your posts, by and large, are analogous to that very same infantile whine.

It's becoming quite obvious that you're a pretentious individual that feels as though speaking in a condescending way is “articulate and intelligent” when in reality, that couldn't be farther from the truth. A true intellectual, when they speak, gets across the most while saying the least. But hey, I can do the book learning kind of talking too. It doesn't make me smarter or you smarter to do that though. It just wastes time typing extra words.

          • EC8CH

      • WAldenIV

If you don't have to create a login with Motorola, it's not Blur. That was the black heart of Blur.

You could create a forest by adding a bunch of trees, grass, birds, animals, and plants to an acre of land. If you removed the trees, you'd be left with a grass, birds, animals, and plants. It's not a forest. It's similar, but definitely not a forest.

        • EC8CH

You make very good points, but if Moto wants people to stop calling what it is “Blur” they should stop using code with the word “Blur” written everywhere.

  • Jay P

Can you please also check to see if there is a Gorilla glass or not. I tried scratching the glass with my wife's gold bangles and no scratches.

    • iknowthingz

It is gorilla glass. The screen is exactly the same as Droid, just bigger.

      • Jay P

Thank U, now if you can tell me do you use screen protector or not. and how many scratches do you have if any. Thank U.

        • Bl4ckn355

I have never used a screen protector with my Droid. I do use a Seido Innocase, but no screen protector, and I have no, I repeat, NO SCRATCHES on my screen. I bought mine at launch so it has had a bit of use. I got a Droid Eris for my fiance a month ago and she already had to have it replaced because the glass shatters easily.

          • Jay P

Thank U to both. Droid X is going naked from now on.

        • Michael_NM

I've had my Droid since November. I've dropped it a couple of times, and it rides in my pocket. No screen protector, no scratches. Just as a gorilla needs no jacket in the jungle, this screen needs no protection. :)
