Official @DroidLanding DROID X Scavenger Hunt Rules

(Click for big boy version.)

Well we now know that the Droid X‘s which appear to be arriving early have nothing to do with the @DroidLanding scavenger hunt that many of you have been following.  How do we know this?  Because the official rules have been released.

The most important part has to do with actually finding one of the hidden devices…

3. How to Participate in the Promotion and Claim a Prize: During the Promotion Period, there will be a Scavenger Hunt, where 21 Certificates for a free Droid Phone will be hidden across the country. Clues as to where the 21 Droid Certificates (“Certificates”) will be hidden will be tweeted on a regular basis from @DroidLanding. To view the tweets, visit http://www.twitter.com/droidlanding. Dates and times of Certificate placement will vary, but the final clue of each GPS location for each Certificate will be tweeted at the time it is hidden. Participants will have 4 hours from the time of the posting of the final clue to find the Certificate and once it is found, follow the instructions on the Certificate to claim their prizes, subject to verification…

So basically, @DroidLanding will tweet GPS coordinates over the next 7-8 days and if your city has one hidden, you have 4 hours to find the representative who is holding a certificate for a Droid X.  Let the battles begin!

Oh they also mention the full retail price of the DX…

4. Prizes and Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): Prizes (21): A Verizon Wireless Droid Phone ARV $569.99 each.

If the image above doesn’t suit your reading needs, check out the official rules here.

My eye is on #7.  Which one are you following?

Cheers Tabe!

  • Peezwizz

Back to the east coast for a Droid designate #21 sighting. Tell the family you’ll be late. — could that be taken from the movie The Departed when that dude has to call in “late for dinner?” Boston??

  • Chris Nimon

jrummy v5.0.9. Does this guy ever sleep. DEDICATION. keep up the good work.

    • http://www.myspace.com/abrielband Tim-o-tato

      Actually, no he doesn't….lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/GotMurph Ben Murphy

Hopefully there is one in Denver, CO :)

    • Droidzilla

No way, man; it's in Colorado Springs. Denver is too low altitude, not close enough to the mountains, and too far from my house for it to be there.

    • Chris

I hope, because if there is it will be mine! :D

  • http://twitter.com/putnamnation Andrew Putnam

I hope nobody in central Florida is tech savvy enough to know about Twitter (old people ya know) cause my eye is on the prize #5

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27300950 Jason Swinford

You flying to Texas for number 5?

      • Paul E.

I was gonna say… #5 is what I've got my eye on here in DFW.. there's only one really famous “grassy knoll”.

      • http://twitter.com/putnamnation Andrew Putnam

        Youre right,stupid fat fingers. #6

  • holidayK

I NEED THE DROID LIFE'S COMMUNITY HELP ON THIS ONE! I'm due for an upgrade, and I held out on the Incredible, thinking I'd see what's for the summer. I don't want the DX ,and I'm not liking the design of the D2. Should I just go for the D1? It is vanilla and will be receiving 2.2

    • root4life

ok i gotta ask why no droid x and i would hold out for somethin better

    • skltr21

do you need a physical keyboard? if not….. you have no reason NOT to get the Droid X. i looooove my droid and wouldnt want the droid x cuz i LOOOOOOOVE having the physical keyboard even though most people hate it. it just takes getting use to…… like any device. now that i use it all the time….. it's super easy and accurate. its waaaaay easier for me than the touch screen keyboard. so id say if you dont need the physical keyboard you might as well just get the droid x. theres nothing better out as of right now.

    • SolRaven

I was in the same situation, but didn't want to commit to a 2 yr. contract, so I just got my first D1 last week off of ebay. My plan is to see if I like the smaller size & physical keyboard or bigger screen then get the DX or D2 under the contract price and put the D1 back on ebay for close to what I paid for it. I really thought I'd want the D2 in August, but now that I have the D1 for almost a week, I already type faster on Swype than I ever did on my Alias 2. I also realise that the D1 doesn't feel like a big phone, and that I could go a little bigger and probably not mind. The only thing I'd change is having a larger screen and no physical keyboard. I'm in luck!

  • Andrew Hewitt

I'm going for #12, which everyone thinks is in Cleveland, and I'm in Dayton. I'm prepared to drive 3 and a half hours once the coordinates are posted just for the hope that nobody near cleveland has found it yet. I'm actually insane.

    • htc_hotTACOcheese

I might go get that one. It is somewhere near the rock and roll hall of fame

  • mapexvenus

My eye is on #7 too ;-)

  • mwaychoff

Is this new off the droiddoes.com site?

“© 2010 Verizon Wireless Activation fee/line:$35 ($25 for secondary Family Shareplan lines w/2-yr Agmts). “

I could've sworn just two days ago I looked at that and it was a flat $25 activation fee. I'm already have the Droid 1 so my account is active, I'm just curious if they hiked their activation fee 10 bucks all the sudden, or if I'm just going crazy and this was there the whole time.

  • Tuna

I know this is way off topic…but I am a registered Swype beta tester and whenever I installed a new ROM it won't work without me uninstalling and reinstalling. Any idea how to get around that?

  • Tuna

I know this is way off topic…but I am a registered Swype beta tester and whenever I installed a new ROM it won't work without me uninstalling and reinstalling. Any idea how to get around that?

    • digitalicecream

      Tuna, you're way off topic.

    • http://www.myspace.com/abrielband Tim-o-tato

You cant….since you have been registering the BETA version, it thinks it is a pirated version and will not let you use it…
BUT, if you use a backup program then make a backup of it and just restore it when you flash a new ROM.
You are only allotted a certain amount of BETA apks. Don't run out :-P

      Good luck…
If you find my email on this site somewhere maybe I can give you a present because I was having the same problems so I found a solution ;-)
      lol

Does anyone know how to install the boot animations using jrummys goodies? It says I installed when I use the custom scripts and use rom manager to install but nothing happens still stock boot animation after reboot

  • Chris Nimon

I hate to admit that im becoming more and more willing to just pay full price for the DX instead of waiting for DPro or a couple months NE2. And with financial aid for school coming in 4weeks I dont think Ill be able to hold out. Anybody have the # for Droids Annonymous?

  • digitalicecream

<sigh> and now its something else completely.

  • Browncoatsd

I'm hoping #3 is in San Diego, there's so many damn cities in California with a Lombard Street…

    • digitalicecream

Yup. its in San Diego, heh heh…

      • Browncoatsd

orly, gut feeling or something a lil more concrete?

    • SolRaven

      That's too funny!

    • yeahlost

i would bet on SF since that Lombard St is more famous but what do i know. =/

    • http://www.myspace.com/abrielband Tim-o-tato

      Oh come on….lol
You know it's SF. Our Lombard street is the twisty turny one ;-)
      lol

      • Paul E.

Yeah there's only one Lombard that would require that processing power to navigate. That one is in SF, I'd bet.

  • javonte

Does anyone know how to install the boot animations using jrummys goodies? It says I installed when I use the custom scripts and use rom manager to install but nothing happens still stock boot animation after reboot

    • blackcatroad

sorry about asking, but did you install the goodies file?

      • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/SOQGG2REJZRIJBLBJTP2VHDX4I Javonte

ya i installed it i just dont think the boot animations is working jrummy be rushing his roms out to fast and dont properly check them to see if evrything is right i love his roms but dang theres always something wrong with it did u get boot animationss to work?

        • blackcatroad

it did on 1.1 but I loaded Sapphire 0.7.0 before he came out with 4.0.7 — will probably try 5.0.9 this weekend if I don't get too busy

        • villian1998

I noticed that the kangerade boot animation installer places the animation in your data/local file, which is predominate folder, but check the system/media file. It might be placing it in this folder or vice versa.

  • Beth Mahoney

How about you just give me a Droid X, I am kinda lazy for this scavenger hunt thing..
    Bethmahoney.com

  • Mdhitchcock

    No mention of #19 yet… could be #2, #7, #15, or #19 for us Oregonians…

  • blackcatroad

In SE Virginia, haven't noticed any X's close at all. Other than D.C. – and you couldn't pay me to go there! LOL

  • rebelz13

    #18 for me!!

  • Br_d

You should download GeoBeagle from the market. This app is used for geocaching which is like a scavenger hunt that uses GPS. I don't know if using it would be necessary (probably not) but it might help. It has a big arrow that points in the direction of GPS coordinates and tells you how far away you are. Another app, c:geo, is very similar, but is more strictly tied to geocaching.

    • Michael_NM

Good ideas for the “fine” tracking. However, I think GNav will get you close faster with driving and walking directions. Then maybe switch over to a geocaching app?

  • Br_d

The sad thing is that after taxes, the phone will cost more than the subsidized price of the phone :(

    • http://www.myspace.com/abrielband Tim-o-tato

Amen to that! I have “won” phones before and OMG it's a f'ing nightmare to pay for the taxes. I was bumped up two brackets before all because of a stupid Samsung phone. FML lol

  • ericsorensen

Did anyone notice the rules state a “Droid” phone will be given away – no mention of the model number. Obviously that can't be the case…

    • Br_d

      If you follow @DroidLanding, it's obvious that it's a Droid X.

  • Edgar

Looks like there'll be a little competition for #3. It shall be mine though. :)

    • http://www.myspace.com/abrielband Tim-o-tato

      Highly unlikely lol
Tim-o-tato shall be going home with prize :-P
      Good luck!

  • Michael_NM

Here’s a summary of how to find GPS coordinates (and your Droid X) with Google Nav:
    1. Convert the coordinates to decimals: http://bit.ly/twsuh
    2. Open Google nav, and select “Type Destination”
    3. Enter latitude and longitude e.g. +47.595082,-122.331575 (Qwest Field)
    4. Hope you get to the Droid X first

    • hongee

i dont even understand how this promotion works =_= how do u get the coordinates in the first place? am i the only one who doesnt get it?:(

      • Michael_NM

I believe the answer to your question can be found in the “story” above. Dr. Droid hid it a little bit. :) It's right after he says, “The most important part has to do with actually finding one of the hidden devices…” :P

All of this is meant in fun. :)

        • hongee

          hmmmmmm….. ok… lol
i guess imma wait until the launch day :/ haha

        • hongee

          awwww btw thank u :)

      • yeahlost

im as lost as you. :D

    • Br_d

You could also paste the coords into google maps on your computer, then chrome to phone it to your phone. :D

  • legoturtle92

I'm going for #4 or #13. I've been solving these clues for way too long.

    • Morbid_Realities

Good luck. Hope some dude that just started following today doesn't happen to be right across the street when the gps coords are tweeted. Then you're SOL. Sucks that all of us that spent so much time on this don't really have a chance

      • legoturtle92

I'm going to head out there early tomorrow and hope that one of the coordinates is tweeted for mine while I'm there.

        • Morbid_Realities

I just hope that someone that spent as much time on this as I did gets one. That would be some sort of redemption. However small. Good luck :)

          • digitalicecream

            True

  • root4life

im in louisiana… i think im screwed

    • Paul E.

Depends where in LA… I'm betting #10 is in Houston. It says that #10 is in a state big enough for 2 phones (#5 is in Dallas, I'm sure of it), and then there's “City, we have a problem”… there's only one city that goes in that sentence. So if you're in SW Louisiana, you might get there in time.

  • StephanC

I could easily drive to Houston or Dallas but I think I'm gonna wait and just buy it.

    • digitalicecream

Let's hope everyone has your perspective ;)

  • http://twitter.com/tneison23 Tyler Neison

Anybody know what number is in kentucky??

    • digitalicecream

      23 ;)

      • http://twitter.com/tneison23 Tyler Neison

        ok thanksu too??

  • http://www.myspace.com/abrielband Tim-o-tato

Which one is in SF?!? :-P
If it's while I am working I am leaving the office so damn quick!!! lol

  • El El Kool J

Wow some of you are something serious about gettin u a Droid X… driving 4 and 5 hours to a location ur not exactly 100% on..lol..

  • http://syntakk.blogspot.com syntakk

Keeping an eye on #10. Doubt I'll be able to go looking for it though.

  • Morbid_Realities

VZW owes me gas money. No joke. This should have been posted with the first tweet. I spent a lot of money hunting for a phone that hasnt been placed yet. One of the hints said they were at their locations and wouldnt be moving unless someone found them. Thats a load of crap. I cannot explain in enough detail how effing mad I am. Someone that just started following and hasnt been on any forums or actively strategizing or hunting has a better chance than me because he happens to be right across the street when the coords are tweeted? Not fair. I call foul.

I have been in IRC chats with guys as they were actively hunting. Had 2 guys all over Lombard St in SF for hours looking. Went to DT dallas myself yesterday after the grassy knoll hint. I knew where it was. The Renassiance Tower was the Ewing Motor Oil Building when JFK was assassinated. (start your engines) Its 2 blocks from the grassy knoll/dealey plaze (near a grassy knoll) the building at night has a huge friggen X on it lit up and blockbuster has 8 floors of office space inside starting on the 21st floor. (blockbuster on the X) and I wasted time because even if thats were they hide it eventually it wasnt there when I was. One of the first clues say that “you pick it up. turn it on. your life changes” the others lead people to belive that they are actually placed and ready to be found. SO MAD!

    • digitalicecream

Guys… I think this is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. I'm in… Verizon, Can you hear me now?? I'm not the only one who traveled 2 hours plus searching for hardware when I was only going to find softcopy within a certain “window” of time. Shenanigans. Me and Kyle call Shenanigans…

    • Br_d

Sorry you wasted time and money. Hopefully you at least had some fun hunting for it. I might have done the same thing, if it weren't for the fact that they screwed up the second tweet from the account by saying the Droid X had a 1ghz snapdragon processor. That tipped me off to the fact that the twitter account is probably run by someone who doesn't have their act together, and that the primary motivation is to get you to read their tweets about how fast and awesome the phone is, rather than giving legit clues.

  • Street_Peddler

there is a verizon employee digging a hole in my back yard, he just threw a droid x box in the hole an is now burying it. i have a chance at this one!

  • Branshaw09

#5 for me! I know its in my area. I spent half an hour searching at the clue site sent out yesterday. Ran into 2 others searching. I'm sure I'll be seeing them again soon!!
Question…. please confirm that I am reading this right, if there are multiple people that get to the site within the 4 hr time limit then all of those people will go into a drawing correct? Doesnt matter who is first or last? Must be present to win?

    • Claire

There will be a drawing only if two (or more) people get to the location at the exact same time.

  • sark

SO, by their official rules you can win a DROID phone. No where in the official rules does it say they are giving away a Droid X.

    • MCS

I was thinking the EXACT thing. Interesting.

      • SolRaven

I don't think they'd do a promo for an old phone. My guess is to get a certificate for your Droid of choice. If it's from VZW, that may even include the Incredible. If it's through VZW and Moto then it might be for the DX or D2 depending on your preference.

  • jeanie kim

i know this is off topic but, i only have 15% of phone memory left. how do i move my music, picturs, etc onto my SD card? i have so much space on it!!! please help. i know some comments go unnoticed, but i really need help, so somone please reply!

    • El El Kool J

you have to do it on ur computer. Plug ur phone in and transfer ur files over to ur sdcard. go to http://www.droidforums.net you can find a step by step there im sure.

      • jeanie kim

        thank you!

  • http://twitter.com/wmsco1 wmsco1

    FFunny@Androidheadline: @Smiletone 's vid is incredibly hilarious!!! Good one! http://youtu.be/IjyQ8MvogrY #android #stevejobs #apple #iphone
    Wm.

    • root4life

lmao you guys you guys guess what hahaha

  • Dman27

yeah the closest one to me is the NYC one… i got a chance at that… NOT i feel like this is such a joke, because even if you went to go find it, in the entire city, someone else is more likely to bump into them and get it first on accident! tiskkk Bestbuy has my preorder…. lol

    • t0ni

I want 300 other people to think EXACTLY like you!!

      • Dman27

haha its the truth though, maybe if i lived some where with a less dense population I would have a chance…

        • KaZx

It seams there might be two in ny one on the city and another in the state

    • Dman27

so these reps can be anywhere in the entire city with the certificate? just clarifying this.

      • Morbid_Realities

no..the rules read that the final gps coords will be tweeted and you have 4 hours to find it.

  • whowland

    #6 here man!!

  • Tabe

This is all BS… They start tweeting 2 weeks before the damn thing officially starts and THEN official rules are revealed… There are lot of people out there that have spent time hunting for these things and are pissed about this!
Not to mention it pretty much makes whoever lives/works closest to the coordinates that they post the likely winners of the things…

    • http://twitter.com/IAMThablackguy Jon Banks

of course they would be more likely to win… that's why contests like this suck ! but it doesn't help when websites give all the info out !!

  • t0ni

Oh man I'm hoping if one is in NY, there is no traffic, I have to get there from MA…. and I will try!

  • villian1998

I'm pretty sure #7 will be Seattle… I can feel the heat from the 1GHz processor in my hands right now!

    • kellex

I can be in Seattle under 4 hours :P

      • villian1998

Just enough time to see me find it!

      • robplatt

I can be there in 40…. >:) (in gig harbor)

        • briderx

Gig Harbor here as well.. About 40 mins..

      • Drew

To bad i can be there in 30! :)

  • tmoney

I think there is one close to me. I have device updates set up on my twitter account for the first time in forever…

  • Michael_NM

Retail price news is not unexpected, but it will likely keep my Droid 1 in my pocket until November…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nicholas-Weih/1272187653 Nicholas Weih

here you there hopen we see some 2ghz droid action by then.. I hope anyway… Im sticking it out so when all these people have there DX … Im like ha should of waited 3 more months

  • http://www.facebook.com/jay916 Jay Maulit

    I'm lookin at #3

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matt-Wesley/1087710065 Matt Wesley

Can anyone post all of the clues for those who don't use twitter

    • kellex
      • digitalicecream

Kellex way to do them a solid, and stop doing them solids for pete's sake. XD

    • Branshaw09

I got twitter for this only….. just sayin ;o)

  • EggoEspada

Seems like ones in NYC, maybe I'll try there. ;D

  • Jwtyler

Can you Put GPS co-ordinates into Google Nav?

    • kellex

      Pretty sure that you can.

      • Jwtyler

Well do tell good King Kellex, do tell…

        • Jwtyler

That seems snarky and was meant to be humor. :-/

          • Michael_NM

Ha! Figured it out. Enter decimals of the coordinates like this +33.283243,-106.880608

          • Jwtyler

I am assuming that is UTM? Entered at what point in Google Nav?

          • Michael_NM

Actually, that's decimal Lat/Lat. I used the GNav shortcut, selected “Type Destination” and entered the coordinates as listed above. Also, those aren't the coordinates for the LC airport, I transposed some numbers when posting the message, but they will get you to NM. :)

Maverick makes find coordinates easier in my opinion, because you can input various formats.

          • Michael_NM

Depending upon how the GPS coordinates our posted, this site is an easy way to convert them to decimals:
            http://www.csgnetwork.com/gpscoordconv.html

          • Jwtyler

You rock sir… Trying to Figure out Maverick. But it has me located somewhere in the middle of the southern Pacific… (wtf?!?!)

          • Michael_NM

On occasion, I've had the same problem with Maverick and Gmaps. A re-boot seems to correct the problem.

        • amosk

          Yes, please tell us!

    • Anonymous

Edit: Dr. Droid was (of course) correct. See my post below.

  • aczm1988

    Dam so close lol.

  • amosk

    First, boooyahh!!!!

    • Michael_NM

Sweet! It's a good day for Hawks fans. :)

      • amosk

        go Hawks! :)

      • El El Kool J

now you can only hope for a good season ….

        • amosk

We play the Rams twice a year, don't we? We have 2 wins lined up already! The rest of the season will be harder…
