Nexus One Receives OTA Update FRF83

by: | posted 06.24.10 | News

On Tuesday, Google came out and said that FRF72 was not official and that they were working feverishly to get the final build of Froyo out to Nexus One owners.  They weren’t lying.  Last night, the FRF83 starting hitting N1′s via OTA and is the real deal.

And of course, someone found the file on one of Google’s servers for those of of you willing to manually update.  Originally the update appeared to only work for those running the FRF50 version of Froyo, but in only a matter of hours someone found the version to work with FRF72..

*THIS IS NOT FOR THE MOTOROLA DROID. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS ON ONE.

If coming from FRF50, download FRF83 here.

If coming from FRF72, download FRF83 here.

Don’t feel left out though Droidies!  Source was released yesterday!

Android 2.2 Source Code Released

by: | posted 06.23.10 | News

We were all prepped to post this after hearing Andy Rubin announce the release of Froyo during his speech at the Droid X launch today, and then as many of you know, some troubling times were cast upon Droid Life.  Well, we’re back now and have pushed most of the Droid X goodies out of the way (for now) which will allow us to focus for a second on the next Android release.  It’s officially Android 2.2 time baby!  Yay!

With the source code now out in the wild, you can expect official Froyo ROMs to be hitting our Droids any day.  And so you know, Cyanogen and Koush are already on it.

For the full Froyo scoop, check out Tim Bray’s latest piece at the Android Developers blog.

Cheers to everyone for reminding me about this!

Motorola Droid Receiving Android 2.2 in July?

by: | posted 06.23.10 | News

DroidForums just received this shot from an internal Verizon system showing that the Motorola Droid is scheduled to receive Android 2.2 by the end of July.  Our sources have been in our ear claiming that the Droid 1 would actually receive Froyo some time before the Droid X launch, but we’ll take end of July.

And I hate to say this, but while that says “currently planned” we should also brace ourselves for possible letdowns.  Not that I need to remind anyone, but you all remember the 2.1 fun.

DROID X Accessory Time! New HDMI Multimedia Station and Car Mount

by: | posted 06.23.10 | Accessories

Mototorola is calling the new docking station for the Droid X an “HDMI Multimedia Station” meaning you’ll be able to dock your Droid X, charge it and stream HDMI video to your TV.  It also appears to have some nicely refined styling which makes the Droid 1 docking station look, well, ancient.

And check out the car mount and HDMI cable which will soon be available as well…

No pricing has been finalized, but you can find them all here.

Update: Pricing has been finalized – HDMI Station ($49.99), Car Mount ($39.99), HDMI Cable ($19.99) and Silicon Skins ($19.99).

Cheers Mike!

DROID X Officially Launching July 15th for $199

by: | posted 06.23.10 | News

Verizon announced today that July 15th would be the official launch day of the new Droid X.  We knew there was a range for the release which could have been anywhere from the 15th through the 19th and it appears as if Verizon jumped it up to the front end.

So with this announcement, we get some amazing news.  Verizon will allow anyone who has an upgrade option during 2010 to upgrade immediately.  That’s right, if your contract is up in December, you can sneak into a Verizon Wireless store and grab one of these beasts on July 15th.

Pricing is pretty standard and comes it at $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate.

Oh, and as you’ll see from the pic above, their site has been updated again to include some fantastic new details.
