Download: DROID X Live Wallpaper

by: | posted 06.26.10 | News

We knew it was only a matter of days before the Droid X Eye live wallpaper was ported to the rest of the big dog Android devices.  This is the live wallpaper with the scary Droid eye that follows you as you swipe between screens.  It’s pretty much the most fantastic live wallpaper available.  And as you can see from the screenshots above, there are a variety of colors to choose from instead of just the standard red.

*For all users.  Both rooted and non-rooted.

*Worked on my stock Incredible and Froyo Droid 1.

DROID Incredible Does Droid Life

by: | posted 06.25.10 | News

So it appears as if the Verizon Droid Incredible page is a fan of Droid Life too and even follows our feed!  From the screenie above you can clearly see our latest poll posted in their “Buzz” section.  (Too funny.)

Completely random I know, but thought it was worth pointing out.  Again, even minor things like this would not be happening had we not been so accepted by such a fantastic community of Droid owners.  Thanks again everyone!  Hope you all have a great start to your weekend.

Friday Poll: Willing to Wait in Line for a New DROID?

by: | posted 06.25.10 | Polls

Over the last few weeks we’ve watched the lines for the HTC EVO 4G and iPhone 4 bend around corners and I”m starting to wonder what will happen when the next couple of Droid devices launch.  When the Incredible hit, they were sold out online and at stores in minutes, so I’m not sure lines ever had a chance to form.  In fact, when I bought mine, I walked straight up to a VZW kiosk and was the second person there and had zero wait time.  However, there seems to be something different about the Droid X

Custom ROM Friday: JRummy’s FRF83 Froyo ROM

by: | posted 06.25.10 | DROID, News, Root

This isn’t necessarily a “theme” but it is one of the first “from source” ROMs to be built now that the official Froyo (FRF83) source code has been released.  And seeing as it’s from JRummy, you know we’re going to show support.

This is as stock as it comes, but includes root, busybox and the new Froyo Google apps.  Don’t expect any specific color schemes yet, although I’m sure they are just around the corner.

Check out the stock kernel benchies…

DROID X Gets Dissected

by: | posted 06.25.10 | News

If anyone is interesting in crying on a Friday morning, then check out the source link below.  The guys at DroidX.net have snagged a Droid X and completely torn it apart.  In fact, they take you through the process step by step, so if you’ve put in your pre-order at Best Buy already, you can start prepping to destroy your newest $600 investment.

These guys should be arrested for destroying a smartphone as beautiful as the Droid X.  (We’re only kidding.  Sort of.)

Rumor: (Updated) Verizon’s Big Sunday Meeting Means Name Change and No iPhone

by: | posted 06.25.10 | News

We just got a hot tip that corporate Verizon Wireless employees are in the middle of a meeting which is a pre-cursor to Sunday’s store closures.  You know, the store closures which never happen, but are happening in some areas today and throughout the rest of the company on Sunday.

So what’s the big news?  Name change and no iPhone baby.

From what sounds like a pretty amped up webcast, Verizon Wireless has announced that as of Monday, they will just be “Verizon” without the Wireless tag.  We were not given reasons as to the change, but it’s definitely coming.

Their new slogan will be “Verizon, Rule the Air!”

Update 10:03AM: We’re getting more info on the name change and it’s looking less like a permanent name change and more like an advertising adjustment.  What I mean by that is the “Wireless” tag will just be dropped in their new marketing campaign.  The thought is that the single word “Verizon” appears bigger and bolder than the 2-word combo of “Verizon Wireless.”  (Cheers Tabe)

Update 10:19AM: Engadget has snagged an image from the upcoming Verizon ad campaign which features the new “Rule the Air!” slogan…

And the second part of the meeting (and most important to us) was to announce that they will not be interested in the iPhone 4 (as of now) and are putting full effort behind Android and the new lineup of Droid devices.  From what I’ve gathered, the Droid X promo video that was shown at the launch was played again plus the announcement of an August release of the Droid 2.

They basically called it the “Summer of DROID.”

Lovin’ the sounds of Verizon backing away from iPhone rumors and sticking to the hottest mobile OS on the planet.

Thoughts?
