Release: Bugless Beast V0.3 Froyo FRF83

by: | posted 06.28.10 | DROID, Root

Ahhh yes, the new Bugless Beast by Mr. Peter Alfonso was released this weekend and as you may have expected is of the highest quality.  This newest BB is V0.3 based off of FRF83 which is the final Froyo build from Google that hit the Nexus One just after the 2.2 source code was released.

He’s kept it simple and mostly stock, but has made enough tweaks and changes to make this so worth your while.  He added the Droid X boot animation (and ringtones) we gave you on Friday plus some quick shortcuts for rebooting or booting into recovery.

The biggest change however, might be the addition of the Bugless Beast Toolkit.  The BB Toolkit allows those of you who are overwhelmed by scripts to run them with ease, shows you changelogs, and will eventually allow you to update to the new BB once we have one.  Yay!

Benchmarks (800MHz “performance”)…

Instructions…

1.  Open ROM Manager>Download ROM>Bugless Beast.
2.  Choose “Bugless Beast V0.3.”
3.  Once it finishes downloading it will prompt you to “Backup” and “Wipe data and cache.”

*If coming from another Froyo build you do not need to wipe data and cache.

*It’s probably a good idea to make a backup.

4.  Once you’ve chosen options, tap “OK” and allow the phone to reboot and work its magic.
5.  It may take a while to boot the first time, so be patient.
6.  Done!

Rumor: Google Sending Froyo OTA to Motorola DROID Test Group

by: | posted 06.28.10 | News

We just received word that an internal testing group at Google has been receiving Android 2.2 OTA updates for the Motorola Droid 1.  No other additional info was given, but these are steps we like to see since most Droid users are impatiently awaiting the Froyo love.  Plus, this at least shows that we may still be on target for the “late July” time frame from Verizon.

No one wants to see another Android 2.1 update situation, right?

And let’s not forget that you can have the new FRF83 Froyo build on your Droid right now should you choose to root it.

MSpot Releases Cloud-based Android Music Service

by: | posted 06.28.10 | Apps

The newest cloud-based streaming music service to hit Android is a fine little product called mSpot.  At first glance/use, it appears to be much more efficient and stable than HomePipe which you may remember as the first streaming music service.

MSpot does have some nice features, like the ability to limit how much and where it actually stores data on your device plus it auto-updates your collection whenever there is a change.

Free in the market, check it out now.  Download link.

DROID X Twitter Scavenger Hunt Starts Naming Cities, Time to Follow Along

by: | posted 06.27.10 | News

Over 12,000 people are now following the Droid X scavenger hunt which has been established through @DroidLanding, a Twitter account which plans on giving away at least 12 Droid X devices sometime before its July 15th release date.  While the account has already had one major slip-up, we wanted to point out that its clues have become much more specific over the weekend.  We have specific states mentioned!  Time to start following…

We’ve got one in California…

Another in Nevada…

One south of Nebraska, likely heading to Texas…

We should start to see more of these posts providing greater details throughout the next week.  If they plan on handing out free Droid X’s before launch, they don’t have a ton of time left.

Anyone tracking this obsessively?

DROID Incredible Changes to Super TFT LCD Screens

by: | posted 06.27.10 | News

Remember that Verizon closeout/phaseout list which featured the Droid Incredible?  According to the latest rumors surrounding the delays of the device, the DI could have found its way onto that list because of a screen change which is apparently happening as you read this.

While the Samsung AMOLED screens sported by the Incredible are beautiful and a key selling feature, HTC is looking at the Sony Super TFT LCD as a replacement while they attempt to catch up with demand.  HTC claims that there are “no discernible difference between the displays” and they even expect the change to fly under the radar.

We’ll be interested to see what these new LCD’s look like, especially out in the sun.  We’ll also do what we can to try and get a hold of one so that we can put them through a side-by-side comparison to look for any dramatic differences.

And on a related note, we’ve been told that the Incredible is definitely not on a closeout schedule and we should instead expect a big ramp-up for the device once the shortages have disappeared.

Cheers to everyone who sent this in!
