The must-have app for any rooted device just received a major facelift. SetCPU, the app now synonymous with overclocking Android phones, found its way to V2.0 over the weekend after a secret beta testing (which we were a part of) and is available for you to update to in the market right now.
The main difference you’ll notice right away is the overhaul to the UI. We now have tabs people! The profile section has also been updated along with too many other tweaks to list.
Oh yeah, it also comes pre-loaded with a bunch of themes.
The new Verizon ad campaign we told you about last week has officially taken off! Featuring a new logo, new slogan and no Test Man, this new look was a much needed overhaul. In VZW’s latest commercial, the new slogan of “Rule the Air” is in full force along with the inclusion of a device that we actually care about, the Droid X.
While I’m not about to go play-by-play over a commercial, I do want to point out some subtle hints that Big Red is dropping on viewers.
First of all, the young/petite girl in the spot clearly whips out her Droid X as she’s walking down the street checking into FourSquare from wherever she just was. (Hello 20 somethings?) What’s interesting though, is the camera purposely shows her pulling the 4.3″ beast out of the back pocket of her skinny jeans. Yep, clearly they want you to realize this device may sound HUGE, but is manageable just like any other smartphone.
They also give you a nice shot of her hands with the device, which by no means looks too large for her to carry. In fact, I drool every time I scroll up to see Mr. X in all his shiny glory.
The FRF85B Froyo build that starting hitting Nexus One devices earlier today is definitely the real deal. Google’s official Nexus One blog confirmed that all N1 users will start receiving an OTA update immediately. Enjoy!
First it was FRF50, then FRF72 and FRF83 and now FRF85b? According to Nexus One owners, a new OTA update is arriving as we’re typing this out. The file is small (only 506K) and obviously patches something from the FRF83 build. No telling exactly what that is, but we’ll do our best to keep you posted once we find out.
*NOT FOR THE MOTOROLA DROID. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL ON ONE.
Ready to get your Android Kindle on? Amazon has finally released the Kindle app to the Android Market in hopes of satisfying all of your mobile book reading needs.
As you may have guessed, this app allows you to access all of your previous Kindle purchases, works in both landscape and portrait mode, and most importantly, let’s you act like a Kindle owner without actually purchasing one.
Now that the Droid X has been announced and will launch on July 15th, it’s time to start up the Droid 2 release date wagon. We’ve been under the impression for quite some time now that it will drop in August, but a specific date had yet to be pinpointed. Well according to new reports, August 23rd could indeed be the day.
I’m a little hesitant to take the 23rd as that happens to be a Monday and would be really out of character for a phone release, but you never know. Maybe we should really start looking at either the 19th or 26th?
The Google crew is at it again. This time they’ve updated the Docs viewer to be much more mobile friendly in your Android browser. You can now view .docx and PDFs with ease. Happy?
Today we’re also releasing a mobile version of the Google Docs viewer for Android, i*hone and i*ad to help you view PDFs, .ppt, .doc and .docx files you’ve uploaded to your documents list, without needing to download the file.
With our mobile viewer you can switch quickly between pages and pan/zoom within a page. On your iPhone and iPad, you can pinch to zoom in or out.
Oh and those screenshots are of the Droid X userguide which for some reason, people seem to think has been “leaked.” This thing has been out since Wednesday when the media received their review models.
