Beautiful Widgets Live Wallpaper Released

by: | posted 05.26.10 | Apps

Beautiful Widgets was updated today and included a special prize if you ventured into the app’s settings.  The developer behind one of the most successful apps ever, created a live wallpaper to compliment BW called Beautiful Live Weather.

This new live wallpaper pulls up your local weather and streams it across the background.  Pretty cool right?  Oh, and it works even better if you have Beautiful Widgets installed.

*Side Note* - I know that many of you are reporting that you cannot see the app in the market.  Try our direct link below from your phone’s browser.  There is also word from the dev that they will be posting the apk tomorrow.  It’s free so I’d think about posting it, but I’m not sure everyone involved would be that excited about that.

Download: Audiofy Beta

by: | posted 05.26.10 | Apps

Another beta Android app sign-up passed many of us by, this time for an app called Audiofy.  At first glance, Audiofy looks like a pretty solid audiobook player which provides you with over 13,000 titles to choose from.  They claim to be able to remember where you left off in a particular book even if you have 500 other books loaded into your library.  They use Google Checkout to buy each audiobook which you should already be familiar with.  They also recommend that you delete audiobooks should you’re SD card become packed and simply redownload them later on at no cost.

Oh, and they claim to have a ton of free books, but I’m not finding out an easy way to search for those.  (Cheapskate!  I know.)

ADW Launcher Update Brings Some Froyo

by: | posted 05.26.10 | Apps

The ADW Launcher received another update yesterday to bring it closer to the quality of the LauncherPro and its animated app drawer.  Which is better?  LauncherPro still appears to be faster, but if you want a Froyo look-a-like, then ADW is a great choice.

*Rooted users only.

Instructions for installation…

*Note 1* – I was unable to manually install this onto JRummy’s ROM, but he includes it as an option in his customizer.  It may be 2 builds behind, but still resembles Froyo.

1.  Download the file compatible with your system:

2.  Open ROM Manager and choose “Reboot into recovery.”
3.  Select “install zip from sdcard.”
4.  Select “choose zip from sdcard.”
5.  Scroll down and select “ADW.Launcher….zip.”
6.  After it finishes installing, hit the power button to return one menu.
7.  Reboot your phone.
8.  Choose the “Home” launcher when prompted.
9.  Done!

Another Motorola Droid Shadow Photo Appears

by: | posted 05.26.10 | News

The Motorola Shadow made another appearance last night and continues to match up to our “Father’s Day post” back on April 23rd…

  • 8MP Cam
  • 700 Mhz OMAP 3630 processor
  • HDMI output
  • Very slick design & thin. The back is thin from bottom then when it gets towards top of phone, it bulges up to a thicker part (hard to describe)

There are reports that it is back in the shop in order to upgrade to some sort of 1.0Ghz processor, but I find that hard to believe with a rumored release date to be just a couple of weeks out.

Droid Incredible Receives New Packaging

by: | posted 05.25.10 | News

Starting tomorrow, shipments of the Droid Incredible will come pre-loaded with a 2GB SD card and quite possibly new “Droid” themed packaging similar to that of the Motorola Droid.  We have yet to actually see a picture of the new packaging, but you know we’ll be on the hunt for it.

On a side note, the SKU change referenced in the photo above is likely the cause of the missing Incredible from VZW’s site just an hour ago.

Droid Incredible Pulled from Verizon Website?

by: | posted 05.25.10 | News

That would be the screen you would see should you visit the official VZW Droid Incredible page and click the “buy now” link.  Weird right?

Update: It appears to be back up now!  Still delayed to 6/15.

Update 2: From one of our VZW sources and also one of the commenters, it appears that the SKU has changed and Verizon just needed to reset some stuff on the site.

After blaming parts manufacturers for delays, Verizon has been unable to keep up with demand for the device and the last we saw, 6/14 was the earliest you could have one shipped to you.  And now, you might not see one ever.

Visit the official VZW Incredidble site and see for yourself.

Any Android chefs out there?  You’ll be pleased to hear the news that Epicurious has launched an Android app which should leave you coming away pretty impressed.  For a first release, this thing is as polished as any app I’ve seen anywhere to date.  This is the quality stuff we are wanting to see!

The word from the Epi-Log…

Last night we launched the Epicurious Recipes App for the droid. All of our 28,000 professionally created and tested recipes are in the app, but what makes it particularly unique is the voice search functionality. Click the voice search tool in the app and say chocolate cake and up will pop 526 incredible recipes.
