Motorola Facebook Assures All that they Love Google

by: | posted 04.27.10 | News

There were some concerns yesterday after hearing the announcement that Motorola would be dumping Google’s location services for Skyhook Wireless and rightfully so.  I know I had to immediately, “Google” them.  (See what I did there?)  Well today, Motorola has cleared up any concerns you may have by assuring everyone that they indeed still love them some Google…

Motorola – Hi all – to clarify, Skyhook’s technology will enhance the overall experience for Motorola mobile device users, especially for those who frequently use location based applications while indoors. Motorola’s relationship with Skyhook demonstrates one of the many benefits of working with Google in an open partnership. We remain committed to the Android platform and to continuing Motorola’s partnership with Google.

This announcement ease your mind a little?

It’s Official: Flash Coming with Froyo

by: | posted 04.27.10 | News

This announcement has me feeling like singing a song…(Insert Michael Buble melody) “Andy Rubins, he’s the man, he just dropped a Flash 10.1 release date bombshell on all the Android fans.  Bam.”  Wow.

Andy Rubins, the VP of engineering for Google had a quick chat with media members last week and casually tossed out a Flash notice…

He also promised that full support for Adobe’s Flash standard was coming in the next version of Android, code-named Froyo, for frozen yogurt (previous Android releases were called Cupcake, Donut and Eclaire, and are represented outside building 44 on the Google campus with giant sculptures of the desserts). Sometimes being open “means not being militant about the things consumer are actually enjoying,” he said.

He also likened Apple to North Korea…

Mr. Rubin also addressed many other topics—like whether consumers actually care if their mobile phone software is “open” or not. He insisted that they will, comparing closed computing platforms to totalitarian governments that deprive their citizens of choice. “When they can’t have something, people do care. Look at the way politics work. I just don’t want to live in North Korea,” he said.

Awesome.  I would say that the Google I/O conference will most definitely be the first sighting of both Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1 working happily together.

Time to celebrate?

Android Quick App: LEDs Hack

by: | posted 04.27.10 | Apps

If you have a docking station then you will instantly realize how important this app is.  While this piece of goodness is about as simple as it comes, it sure packs a punch.  You can easily flip your LED lights on and off or even take to a few additional settings like auto-disable upon docking.  Game changer!

Sorry non-roots, this is for the rooted crowd only.  And yes, it’s free.

Android Quick App: Battery Indicator

by: | posted 04.27.10 | Apps, Apps, Reviews

One quirky thing about the Droid’s battery is that it only displays its status in increments of 10. Battery Indicator displays your battery’s percentage in your notification bar, and allows for the pulldown menu to give you a temperature, battery quality and voltage readout. It also lets you know how long your battery’s been running since last charge or how long it’s been since you plugged it in.

Pro version is 99 cents, and allows for conversion from Farenheit to Celsius on battery temperature, startup on boot, and hi-res images.

Facebook Update Adds Multi-touch to Images

by: | posted 04.27.10 | Apps, News

The news on Friday seemed to be all about the latest update to the Android Facebook app which included inbox support.  Facebook machines can now check their inboxes, look for updates and even review sent messages. That’s worth a big “YAY!” right?

Well, there was something else included in the update but not mentioned anywhere and that is the addition of multi-touch on photos.  That’s right, you can now pinch and zoom all over the place.  Antoher “YAY!”?  We’ll hold off on excessive celebration until they figure out tagging.

And once again, join us on Facebook!  We just eclipsed 2,000 fans (likes) (whatevers)!
