Astro File Manager Beta Ending?

by: | posted 03.28.10 | Apps, News

Anyone else receive the unpleasant warning message from Astro File Manager this morning that I just got?  You know, the one claiming that the beta version of the app is set to expire in 3 days?  Huh?  Yeah, that is not a good sign.  And what’s even worse is the fact that http://metago.net/astro/fm/index.php says nothing of this expiration and also nothing of the possible price tag the “1,000,000″ users are about to be slapped with.

Feel free to ask them about it on Twitter though!

Update 7:12PM 3/28: Metago Twitter drops this tweet to sort of ease our minds…

That doesn’t necessarily say that the next version will continue to be free, but we’ll have to assume it will be.  (Cheers Wade!)

Stay tuned…

One of our readers, Ryan, just sent over his video review of Asphalt 5 which many consider the top Android game on the market right now.  It’s a little pricey, but after you watch his vid, you’ll see that it’s worth it if gaming on a Droid is your thing.  Check it…

Video: Returning to Stock 2.0.1 Using ROM Manager and DM Updater

by: | posted 03.27.10 | DROID, Root, Tips, Videos

I’ve got to start this one off by saying, “You all officially owe me for this one!”  That’s right, I got slammed with emails (Which I don’t mind!) after posting yesterday that ROM Manager had an update which included SPRecovery.  Many of you were confused at how to utilize SPRecovery in ROM Manager to get back to stock Android 2.0.1 on your Droid and rather than work through each one of your comments individually, I figured another video tutorial should do the trick.  And what I mean by “you owe me” is just that it was painful to return to stock after running CyanogenMod for a full week!  Best ROM available hands down. :)

So here we go!

*Warning* – As always, you are performing these tasks at your own risk.  We are not recommending that you do ANY of these, but simply providing information to you.  There is a chance you could brick your phone, do other permanent damage and this will more than likely void your warranty. Please do as much research as you can beforehand.  Droid Life is not liable for any of your actions.

Initial steps…

1.  Make sure you have the newest ROM Manager. (Go into market and check for updates.)
2.  Make sure you have DM Updater installed:  Download Link

Got questions?  Drop them in the comments.  We have a ton of people cruising these days that are more than willing to help you.

ROM Manager Update Includes SPRecovery

by: | posted 03.26.10 | Apps, DROID, Root

The people have been heard!  That’s right, all of you struggling to return back to stock after flashing to the latest CyanogenMod can now relax.  Koush’s ROM Manager received yet another update today, this time including an option to flash SPRecovery.  Yay!  Just open ROM Manager and scroll to the bottom to flash it…

For whatever reason, DM Updater was struggling to recognize that your phone was either rooted or not actually utilizing SPRecovery, therefore was not allowing you to flash it and then follow through with the process of returning back to a stock 2.0.1 Droid.

Let me know if this helps!

The PixelBite crew is putting together some of the sweetest up and coming games right now for the Android platform.  In fact, they have two in the works which even have me a little excited.  Check out the trailer for their new redneck racing game, ever-so-cleverly titled Deliverace, and another sort of 3rd person shooter called Shooting Guns…

Android Quick App: App Protector

by: | posted 03.26.10 | Apps

If you are concerned about someone grabbing your Droid and diving headfirst into any of your applications which may include private info, then App Protector might be an app worth checking out.  The idea of the app is simple, and works as advertised.  Basically, it allows you to select which apps you want to password protect, including system settings, and then requires an unlock in order to use them.  Great for those of you hiding your…well, use your imagination.
