Tuesday Poll: Favorite Home Replacement App?

There are almost more home replacement apps than most of us can keep track of at this point, but I’d still like to hear which one you are currently using or is your favorite.  I didn’t list every single one in this poll, but I’m pretty sure I covered the major ones that I get the most questions and requests on…

Personally, I’ve only checked out a few of these, but really always preferred the stock home to most of these home replacements. That is, until I went with Cyanogen and fell in love with the HelixLauncher.

What is it that you like about your particular replacement?  And if it’s not listed, I’d love to hear what it is that you are using.

In my opinion HelixLauncher is the best .

Well  I actually really like the ported 2.1 3D launcher… gives me 5 screens plus the 3D app drawer.. I think the shortcuts at the bottom of the screen have something to do it but man do I love the new replacement!!…

iHome Home Replacement App features: easy to use, fast and efficient, provide a whole new experience on Droid perfectly….i like this one..thanks for the post! enjoyed going through it!

My favorite home replacement app for Android used to be LauncherPro, mainly because it is fast and highly customizable. …

I’m really liking HelixLauncher. I really want more than 3 screens, so I was using Launcher+ but it keeps crashing when I use the physical keyboard or the car dock.

    Really nice,
I found a winner. I think the shortcuts at the bottom of the screen have something to do it but man do I love the new replacement!!!!!!

I’ve missed when I made the switch from iphone. Having it on Marketplace is just another reason to wait for 2.1 before rooting my phone.

This more screens is kind of nice, even though I don’t really care at this point about it, but in the future it’s nice to know that I can add more.

It also seems to run a little slow. HelixLauncher seems to be running MUCH smoother and hasn’t crashed yet.

Why can't I see HelixLauncher2 in the market? More importantly, whats the difference between HelixLauncher and HelixLauncher2?

  • chris nimon

I was using lancher+. switched to helix yesterday. While i dont really need 7 screens it lets me group apps. I really like having the 4 permanent apps at the bottom. scrolls fast.
Dislike – when in browser, pinch/zoom gets pretty jittery sometimes and seems to use more battery. Wife saw the live wallpapers and now wants me to root her droid and install cyanogen.

  • Joandy

I've seen most of those home replacements and didn't like most of them because something was missing. But when the site reviewed HelixLauncher, OMG!!!! I found a winner. I think the shortcuts at the bottom of the screen have something to do it but man do I love the new replacement!!!!!!

Used stock home for the longest time. Tried Panda Home but thought it was just too slow compared to Stock. Then installed launcher – It is nice but still a little slow been using this till today I just tried HelixLauncher and now this is my new home with 7 screens – Really fast loving it so far.

I actually really like the ported 2.1 3D launcher… gives me 5 screens plus the 3D app drawer. Only problem I have is it FC when I take my Droid out of the dock, have to restart phone to get working again but I don't charge my phone unless it needs it so not a big deal

  • Octotron

    Still a fan of stock!

  • BRIM

Helix was VERY quick & responsive but gripes:

Can't. Back out of app drawer properly.
    Can't scroll live wallpaper

Just can't let go of Home++ and its functionality of its' PowerBar.

  • Plaidman

I like the speediness of the stock home, but I recently tried Helix. I haven't noticed any lag (where other home replacements have been noticeably slower) and the persistent buttons at the bottom are something I've missed when I made the switch from iphone. Having it on Marketplace is just another reason to wait for 2.1 before rooting my phone.

  • Bako

I've used them all, and if it weren't for lag, DXTop would actually be my favorite. But… the lag. HelixLauncher seems like a good compromise, without a lot of the excess (skinning, etc) but with useful elements like the dock. I missed the dock so much when I left DXTop due to its crappy performance!

HelixLauncher seems actually faster than stock (no amount of widgets slows it down) and having extra screens is nice. It has crashed on me once since I started using it yesterday, but that's no big deal so far. It is the clear frontrunner.

Loved Home++ and Launcher+ until I started getting FCs all the time and the dev just disappeared. Helix is sooo fast and stable, but could def use some more customization options…

  • http://www.facebook.com/tsuftko Tomi2Gun

I've been using DXTop for a while just for the inherent ability to be able to modify my icons easily but it has it's issues. Translating themes to that platform is sub par… etc.

  • gonzo319

I don't like the helix launcher, I like my options at the bottom and the 3D app screen, what's the big deal with helix anyway?

  • machinegun68

I switch off between Helix and Launcher+.

  • pjjanak

I'd have to say that my favorite is HelixLauncher. Since hearing about it yesterday, I have been using it and really really like it. The ability to have those permanent shortcuts on the dock is something really cool and one of the few features that I really like about Android 2.1 (hopefully it'll be included in the OTA for the Droid *fingers crossed*). Other than that, it is really fast and doesn't drain my battery very much.

The added bonus of more screens is kind of nice, even though I don't really care at this point about it, but in the future it's nice to know that I can add more.

My one qualm is that the only way to close the drawer without opening an application or something is to use the physical back button on the Droid. I just wish it was like the stock drawer, in so much as you could close it via the drawer itself or the back button.

  • kellex

    No love for DXTop.

  • Hep

So far I'm really liking HelixLauncher. I really want more than 3 screens, so I was using Launcher+ but it keeps crashing when I use the physical keyboard or the car dock. Basically, anything that forces the home screen to be sideways, Launcher+ crashes. It also seems to run a little slow. HelixLauncher seems to be running MUCH smoother and hasn't crashed yet.

    • helix

you can configure it to have 3-7 screens.

      • guest

        how so?

        • Steve

Click Menu, Configure, Screen Size- this gives you the option of 1-7 screens

  • SatanicSanta

Helix sucked, got stuck in a F/C loop. Luckily I had A.T.K., switched to settings and removed it.

    • stlbryson

Have Helix on DROID 2.0.1 and it works great! So much better than Launcher+!

  • zedsded

    Sweeter Home

    • carig

yeah what about sweeter home? I know only preview 1 is on the market but it's by far the most customizable

  • aulos

    And what about SlideScreen?

    • kellex

Hadn't heard anything about SlideScreen in a while. :)

      • aulos

It had update not so long ago.

    • MattDemers

I don't really enjoy it. It will go “fullscreen” for Google Reader items, but not for Twitter/FB.

  • kerrhome

    Love free. Love Home++

  • David

    launcher+ Beta

    • kellex

I completely left out Launcher+..Damn! Adding now.
